Longleat: Just 35 minutes drive, Longleat is a popular destination. Center Parcs now offers a day pass for non-residents and enables you to use the facilities there.

Thermae Spa, Bath: The Romans used the natural spring waters for healing and relaxation and now the 21st century interpretation is here with the wonderful Thermae Spa. Buy a 2 hour session and swim on the roof-top in gloriously warm waters, shower in the aromas of Frankinsense or Eucalyptus, pamper in the footspas, or swim in the below ground pool with in-built jacuzzi. They hire towels, bathrobes and slippers so you only need to take a swimsuit. A must-do in Bath!

Golf: Cumberwell Park (3 miles) has a 36 hole course and also a driving range. Sunday lunches and also wine tasting evenings - superb food and wine.

We have stayed at the cottage twice, and both times we were very impressed at the standard of the accomodation, everything was kept so well and was spotless, it really is a home from home. It was also very nice to be able to walk everywhere if you did not want to use the car, you can be sure the hill will keep you fit. We hope that maybe we will be able to go back again this year, jan is a lovely welcoming lady and really puts her heart into the cottage which is plain to see.

great, absolutely great little cottage

Kemble Cottage is absolutely great to stay in. Very clean, absolutely well-maintainded, well equipped kitchen, very cosy, very friendly welcome (even a bottle of wine for the very first evening, which was lovely after a long travel!).
Parking is a little bit hard as the street is narrow and very steep (but no problem for real good drivers as my husband). Walking distance to shops, near to Bath and many gardens (bus stop at the corner of the street goes directly to Bath!).

The best cottage ever!

We have stayed in many cottages in almost 20 years and this one is quite simply, the best. I almost feel reluctant to write about how lovely this cottage is because then it will get booked up and we will have to wait years to go again. Joking aside, we have just had a fantastic week here. Jan really cares about her guests and does everything to ensure things are just right. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, as was the sofa and the cottage was very well equiped. The week that we stayed was very hot and it was lovely to return to the cool stone built cottage at the end of the day. Furnishings are elegant and there are tasteful homely touches everywhere. We had no trouble parking in the road outside and in fact there is so much to do locally and excellent public transport that you could leave the car behind all week. Bradford on Avon itself is a charming thriving town with excellent places to eat, drink and shop and walk. The canal and the river are wonderful areas and there is a country park and swimming pool too. Bath is easily reached especially by public transport. Lacock Abbey (NT) and village where Cranford, Harry Potter etc have been filmed is a short drive away. Tyntesfield (also NT) is about 45 minutes away although this is an area rich in NT properties. At the end of the road is an excellent pub serving wonderful food and beer called The Castle which was our favorite pub. What more could you want? We are already checking our diary to see when we can go again.

Wonderful stay at Kemble Cottage

We had a lovely few days at Kemble Cottage. Jan was very welcoming and the cottage was a perfect base to explore the area round Bradford on Avon. The kitchen was really well equipped, there were plenty of DVDs and books to read - overall a brilliant place to stay.

Charming cottage; parking difficult

Kemble Cottage is well-situated in the town but offers only street parking. Finding a spot close to the Cottage was always a problem (and this was early April before tourist season was in full swing). The cottage is well-equipped and cozy but small problems (eg., constantly dripping shower, radio not working) are not fixed promptly. WiFi is a plus.
Owner's Response: We always value guest reviews but thankfully, this experience is far from typical of the glowing comments and gifts (thank you!) we usually receive from our first time and repeat guests at Kemble Cottage.

Old cottages are not usually blessed with driveways and garages and I do realise that our Canadian and American visitors may find this difficult to cope with but it is pointed out on the site. Parking is free and unlimited and very often you can park directly outside the cottage but we cannot guarantee this as it is a public street. If you have ever tried parking in Bath, we are actually lucky here that we can get parked.

We always fix problems right away - if we are made aware of them. We always contact guests after a day or so just to make sure everything is working and they are happy. The shower does need to be switched off securely and the radio requires that the aeriel is extended.

It is always unfortunate when negative opinions overtake the positives and reviews can sometimes bring them to the fore (we all fancy ourselves as amateur critics and it is always easier to criticise than to praise!) but I am confident that a stay at Kemble Cottage will provide a wonderful escape in a characterful old town near Bath, with everything close at hand and beautiful furnishings - our current guest says she loves it so much, she would like to buy the cottage........ ahhhh, kind comments like that really do warm my heart!
