About Bill Houck

Bill, after a prior career in business consulting, has been active in real estate development, construction and rentals for nearly 30 years. He is excited to finally apply his first degree in Forestry to the 640 acres of trees at Tumalo Lake. Tracy, along with her interior design and 'Inn Keeper' responsibilities, is a Global Director in the Clinical Research field.

Bill Houck purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Bill Houck chose Bend

Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining necessary land use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October, 2011, The Creekside Cabin in June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin in June, 2013, and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main lodge will be built.

We believe this is a very special place and think you will feel the same after visiting.

What makes this cabin unique

Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well reknown for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc. Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to Bend.

We stocked Tumalo Lake with trout in 2013 and guest this past Summer landed Rainbows up to 16-18'.

This Winter weather permitting we will be building an ice skating ring on Tumalo Lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

There were 11 of us here and this cabin had more than enough room for all of us. Had a great time canoeing, paddle boarding, even used the raft. The hike around the lake was beautiful. The Great Horned Owls made us feel right at home. Thanks for everything- your cabin and property are amazing. Hope to be back soon.

Beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Even with 4 toddlers and a preschooler our stay at Tumalo Lake Cabin was beautiful and relaxing. We were a group of 4 young families and the house fit us great. Each bedroom is akin to a master suite, with a full bath and ample room for a travel crib. The cabin exudes luxury. It's apparent that a lot of thought went into building each element. The setting is beautiful. We all enjoyed hiking around the lake and watching the resident otter. Bill was very friendly and a pleasure to work with. We all agreed our trip was excellent and hope to return!

Fantastic Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our first family vacation in 11 years and we had the most wonderful time. The Creekside Cabin was beautiful, comfortable and we had plenty of room for the 6 of us. Lots of things to do and within 10 minutes of Bend but we mostly enjoyed just being together at the cabin fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Bill was great in showing us around and answering any questions we had about the area. He has really created a little piece of heaven on Tumalo Lake. Thank you Bill, we will be back!

Such a treat!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with 2 other families for a weekend of winter fun. The house was gorgeous, comfortable, plenty of room for everyone. Being up there in the snow felt like we were miles away from civilization, yet with all of the amenities we needed...we especially loved the radiant floors and hot tub after a fun day in the snow. It was beautiful...peaceful...a perfect weekend getaway with great friends. We snowshoe'd around the lake and created a great sledding hill right in front of the house. Can't wait to go back...and I'm sure it's equally magical in the summer! Thank you Bill for creating such a great getaway!

Bob and family of seven

  • 5 of 5

We had a most wonderful time at the Creek Side home on Tumalo Lake. This is an beautifully architectural and well constructed home reminding me of a Frank Lloyd Wright. The kitchen is well stocked and making meals for seven easy. Linen and beds clean and comfortable, but who couldn't sleep so well in such a peaceful setting. Trails and time on the lake, canoeing and fishing fabulous.

We caught and released four trout 12-14 inch. They are strong fighters and will live for another fisherman.

Bill, owner and developer was very helpful and available for all needs we only needed kitchen towels which he provided. We plan to return, a stay in the winter with snow might prove interesting. Well done Bill. I am very pleased with the standards and reliability of VRBO.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently stayed in the creek side cabin and we will for sure be back to this peaceful secluded place. We had such a wonderful stay. We had 3 adults and 5 kids ranging from teenager to 8 years old we all fit in this house with room to spare and all we were completely entertained by the lake, the nearby trails and the games that came stocked in the house. There is so much to do in Bend. We had fun day trips but all the kids had way more fun paddling around the lake. We really didn't need to leave! The house seemed brand new. It was well appointed, beds were extremely comfortable and Bill was very helpful with anything you needed. Please note although the photos are nice, they do not do this place justice. It is way nicer than the pictures.

We couldn't have dreamed of a more peaceful, enjoyable home to spend our family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing home! What an amazing week! We truly couldn't have been happier with the beautiful setting, cabin, and accommodations we experienced at Tumalo Lake. It was the perfect base for us to enjoy all our favorite recreational activities.... mountain biking, hiking, golfing, trail running, paddleboarding, canoeing, and brew pub hopping. The best part is that almost all of these activities were within a few feet of our Creekside Cabin. Bill and Tracy were the perfect hosts - welcoming, accommodating and great to work with. They have truly gone "above and beyond" to create the most beautiful vacation home imaginable. Everything was perfect.... the beds were great, the kitchen extremely well equipped, views breathtaking, the furniture comfortable, decorations beautiful. spacious rooms (great to have bathrooms for each bedroom), and great lake access. We would not have changed a thing. Can't wait to return next year!
