About Phil Maxson

We live in Tacoma, WA and use our cabin at least once per month year round. We named it Maxson's Dacha because we spent two and half years in Moscow, Russia, where we learned about Russian Dachas (Vacation Homes).

We have friends that have owned property at Lake Cushman for the last 15 years. We had gone up for the weekend several times and visited them at the lake. After the second time there we told our friends if they ever saw a cabin for sale to let us know. They did and now we have our own place to stay.

Phil Maxson purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Phil Maxson chose Lake Cushman

Located in desirable Division 3/Mt Rose Village & only a few blocks to the lake front Community Park facility & Boat Launch. Paved streets & security patrol for peace of mind in the best area of Lake Cushman.

This is not your typical “Vacation Rental” property, we have made it a home.

We love our little cabin and the Lake Cushman area.

We have put allot of work into making it an enjoyable and relaxing place to stay.

We don’t rent it out year round, we use it ourselves as much as possible, we are only trying to defer some of the cost of utilities by renting it out now and then.

Most of the people that use it are repeat visitors, we love that because they take care the place and love staying there as much as we do.

What makes this cabin unique

Fresh air, nice walks around the area.

Walking distance (half mile) to the Community Park and the lake.

Evenings sitting around the campfire behind the cabin. (If no Fire Ban in place)

Use of 2 kayaks as long as you have a way to get them down to the lake.

Only 5 miles from Staircase, at the Southeast end the Olympic National Park.

Maxson's Daucha, A home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cabin nestled in quiet beautiful Lake Cushman community is truly our favorite place for a stress-free getaway. It is generously and tastefully equipped with anything and everything you need, in both the kitchen, bathrooms and living areas. A wonderful stock of Polish pottery dishes makes dining a special occasion, and large Kerig coffee maker is a nice touch for coffee lovers. They have also provided a great collection of DVD's, two DVD players, one in the living area, one upstairs in the master bedroom. The beds are beautifully made up in down comforters along with wonderful pillows. We love the 2 gas fireplaces, one in the living room, one upstairs in the main bedroom. The bright and airy sun room is a great place to sit and sip coffee or wine, or just enjoy watching the deer and raccoon pass by. There are many opportunities for walking, hiking, biking and kayaking too in the beautiful unspoiled outdoors. We have enjoyed this cozy "home away from home" 3 times now, and hope to return! Absolutely love it!!!

Truly a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a wonderful three days and two night in this beautiful cabin (dacha) get-a-way at Lake Cushman. It's comfortable, decorated beautifully and every amenity you can imagine from an outdoor fire pit and BBQ to complete kitchen needs. We enjoyed the cozy sunroom and comfortable beds. I highly recommend this stay anytime of the year for nature at its best!

Cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful setting for a cabin! There are so many wonderful hikes to take I could be there for a year and probably not do them all. Of course that is if you ever want to leave such a cozy cabin. Everything is perfect! I am sorry about the scratches on the door frame but my husband had to drag me out.

The PERFECT weekend!!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cabin you have! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Everything was perfect and we can't wait to go again. So many great hikes and amazing scenery all around. Don't know how you are ever able to leave.

Everyone we met on our walks was super friendly and they seemed just as happy to be up there as we were. Looks like you travel a lot and have learned just what the perfect "get a way" needs. It is more like a cozy home than a rental thats for sure! We LOVED it!!

Delightful Dacha

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time relaxing and playing at the dacha. It had everything we needed for comfort and for cooking. We loved the sunroom and the outside fire pit. We enjoyed the short stroll down to the lakeside park and the use of the kayaks. Hope to come back someday. Thank you for renting such nice accommodations!

Wonderful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

A few of us stayed with my 2 year old daughter and had a great time. The beds were extremely comfortable, we all slept very well. Small park close by and short drive to some easy trails to hike (we were even able to take the 2 year old in an umbrella stroller a ways into the trails and just lift her over little obsticals.) The owner is very nice and everything is easy to find.

Notes:
We have 2 - single person kayaks available, and Adult Life Jackets, but for kids you should bring your own in case we don't have the correct size. We also have 3 - two-way radios which are great to use between the cabin and the lake or anywhere within about a 2 mile radius. NOTE: You will need a hatchback, pickup truck, or SUV to haul the kayaks down to the lake. The last two years we have had a State mandated Outdoor Fire Ban put in place as early as July 4th, and almost certainly in Aug & Sept. This means no use of any wood or charcoal fires in the Fire Pit or BBQ. If the Burn Ban is in place we will provide propane fire pit and 1 tank of propane. You will be responsible to refill the tank at your cost if you want to use more than 1 tank of propane. Note: No Cellphone coverage at all this end of the lake.
