This property is exactly as the description states, and exceeds it too! It is set in fantastic countryside, with outstanding views, and only the sounds of the birds and local wildlife to be heard. The property is cool, shaded and the gardens which are extensive, provide many different areas for sitting, eating and relaxing both in the sunshine and in the shade. Although the gite sleeps 6, it was great that there was more than ample cutlery and crockery, allowing us to use the dishwasher every couple of days! It is set out with the bedrooms on one side and the living accommodation up three or four shallow steps away from them. We loved the fact that the french doors of the master bedroom opened out on to the garden. It was fantastic laying in bed, watching the blue sky and garden come to life every morning! The gite is fairly secluded, and was very peaceful. The pool was used every day, and was spotless, being maintained twice in the weeks stay. The owners provided bread, wine and cheese upon arrival, and the property was spick and span. A Five Star accommodation. The local town of Chalais has an Intermarche approx 10 - 15 mins away, and Bonnes and Aubeterre were only a short drive away with good restaurants and local artisan shops. The market at Riberac on Friday morning was excellent - lots of wine, cheese and local delicacies on offer - with tasters for prospective customers, delicious.
We are a family of four, with an 18yr old daughter and 15yr old son. We did wonder if there would be enough to keep them entertained - however we can assure you that they loved the holiday. They were in the pool constantly, having fun, enjoying the locality and the chance for us to be a family again, doing things together and having time for each other. They enjoyed eating out, the markets and local towns. We did go to Bordeaux for the day, and had a great time - they loved the old buildings and shops, especially the chocolatier!!
Cannot fault the property, the owners or the location. We would recommend it wholeheartedly to any family or group of friends who are looking to stay in a good quality property, with the extra touches such as comfortable beds, spacious rooms and stunning scenery.
