Cherry Ridge Farm is located two miles from Bovina Center, New York in the beautiful Catskill Mountains. Bovina is a wonderful little town, frozen in time, and tucked away in rolling hills only 3 hours from New York City. It could be a million miles... time truly stands still up here!
We discovered “the farm” one day in 1987 after our old Volvo station wagon died on the Taconic Parkway. We rented a car and drove west across the Hudson and into the Catskill Mountains, Later that day, we were on the top of a hill, in a pickup truck, overlooking “Pink Street”. It was the first property we looked at that weekend, but we knew we had to have it... it was the beginning of a love affair with a very big project!
Homesteaded by German immigrants, Cherry Ridge Farm was a working dairy farm for approximately 100 years... until 1988. There are 145 acres – about half forested and half hay and pasture fields. Two little “Brookie” streams join together, not far from the house (great safe fishing for kids). There are 2.5 miles of private, groomed walking/riding trails (plenty wide enough for off-road vehicles).
The old farm house has four small bedrooms and a big front porch. We have kept the house simple and unpretentious. Renovations include refinishing the old pine floors, new insulation, electrical wiring, a new furnace, water heater, windows and modern appliances. There is no TV but there is satellite radio and wireless internet when one needs to connect with the outside world... or listen to a baseball game. After the old shallow spring-fed well kept running dry, we put in a deep well that provides more water than we can use. The water tastes wonderful.
Outside, there are two old barns – the “cow barn” and the “horse barn.” We have made the upstairs of the horse barn a game room so the kids can play ping-pong and air hockey on rainy days. It also doubles as a quiet space for painting and drawing. Perennial flower gardens and raised beds for fresh vegetables and cut flowers surround the house.
We hope our special getaway appeals to you and look forward to welcoming you to Cherry Ridge Farm.

We spent the last two weeks of August at the farmhouse in Bovina. We've rented other properties in the Catskills, but this is the first one that not only lived up to our expectations, but exceeded them. The property itself is enormous (well over 100 acres), gorgeous, and beautifully maintained. It was a pleasure to simply sit on the front porch and drink of cup of coffee or a glass of wine. My husband and dog would hike up to the top of the hill behind the house every morning and take in the amazing view. We swam in the pond, played lots of dog Frisbee on the grass, and went for long runs on the Catskill scenic trail nearby.
The kitchen was well equipped and spacious. There was a nice Weber grill outside. And we made dinners many nights from produce purchased at local farm stands and farmers' markets and vegetables and herbs straight from the garden. If we didn't feel like cooking, we could drive to the nice little restaurant in Bovina Center, or get Friday night pizza in Bloomville, or just grab a burger and a beer in Andes.
Our two weeks in Bovina were supremely idyllic and we were sorry that we had to return to the city.
We have been to Cherry Ridge with family and friends several times. It is perfect. The farmhouse is simple but has everything we need, and the setting among the rolling hills of Delaware County is amazing. It is one of the most beautiful places we have been. Our kids spend a lot of time playing in the horse barn and we love walking up the paths behind the house -- the views of the valley from up there are stunning. And now there is a swim pond halfway up! There is also a nice walk into town for breakfast or basic supplies. The beautiful porch is a great place for morning coffee. We like to eat meals out at the picnic table, and have a bonfire at night. The owners are lovely to deal with. We are always sad to leave.
