A distinct feature of Casa Verano is the location on a peaceful, residential dead-end street with just a handful of homes. The jungle is our neighbour! We sit on the porch and watch the birds, hummingbirds and butterflies - and the occasional howler monkey.
Our little street is entirely residential (no bars or restaurants) yet only a 2 minute level walk to the beach! There is a fruit stand, convenience store, bakery, pharmacy and doctor around the corner and a large grocery store a couple of blocks away. There is an impressive variety of restaurants and bars in town for you to explore.
You certainly don't need a car while at Casa Verano - but we have a driveway inside our gated home. We also have a security guard at the end of our street in the evenings and throughout the night, although we find Samara very safe.
Casa Verano was designed and constructed by a well known local builder who also built The Tree House Inn. The house is very spacious with vaulted teak ceilings throughout. There are 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom (queen bed) is large with its own bathroom. The second bedroom (double bed) is at the other end of the house on a corner with windows on 2 sides. There is a second bathroom (with shower/bathtub) at this end of the house. The third bedroom is in the middle of the house (2 single beds). There is plenty of closet space everywhere. There is a third bathroom and shower outside by the swimming pool which is very convenient. Recently we have created a complete exterior lounge area in the back of the house beside the pool. The layout lends itself well so that guests who stay up later don't disturb those who have gone to bed.

It is amazing to be located in the town (no driving!) and at the same time secluded and private - next to the jungle. So quiet and peaceful yet 2 minutes to everything. The house, garden and pool is a true oasis. We love the beach, but there are also days when we don't bother to leave the property! Pura vida!
We stayed in Casa Verano May 2013.
We loved the casa, at the beginning we had a few ants around the fridge, there was bug spray near the washer and dryer, I quickly took care of that. The next day I requested have a cleaning lady to tidy up the kitchen seeing as now there were dead ants all over, and to just fresher up the place seeing as we were going to be there all week. She went above and beyond what I had expected. Seeing as it was not too costly I didnt mind her putting in extra work. She cleaned all the main area (kitchen, dinning, living room) and mopped it all.
She was very friendly and even suggested some good places to eat (however our spanish was rusty so we had a hard time, this was quite a funny interaction) We had no problems with aunts after this...
The restaurants around are very good and many have good prices and specials on certain nights.
In the evening the town would quiet down quickly and we always felt safe walking around at night.
Staff in restaurants (especially on the beach are very very nice)
Lots of howler monkeys right above the pool which was exciting to see.
We rented a 4 wheeler to travel to nearby beaches which was very exciting. Felt very safe in other locations near Samara
Overall an amazing experience and very enjoyable stay, beautiful Casa and very helpful management.
Air condition worked almost too well in room, we were cold half the time... which isnt a bad thing.
and Loved the night security guards as well as the Casa's privacy seeing as no one lives to the left of the house. Very short walking distance to beach, restaurants and shops.
We also had arranged through the manager of the house to have a pick up at airport, he was very nice, informative and stoped at a store on our way to the casa seeing as it was late at night and we wanted to pick up a couple of things.
Would return again and I always recommend Samara to other people.
We stayed at Casa Verano from Dec 21 - 28 with our two young kids and the grand parents; there were six of us in total. The location was perfect; less than a 10 minute walk from the beach. Far enough away from all of the nightime noise (only noise coming from the American neighbours who played Christmas music all day). The house has all of the amenities needed; the pool was great to have when the sun was just too much at mid-day. Samara is an amazing city; people are so nice, and so laid back. A couple of things that I recommend are the Samara Trails tour (Alvaro is the best guide I've ever experienced); Samara Organics; Luv Burger (great vegan food, and best beer!); Oso Loco for movie nights, coffee and curry.
I stayed in Casa Verano February 2014 with my fiance. We had an excellent time. The house had everything we needed-a refreshing pool, air conditioner, TV, etc. The location was great-really is two minutes from everything. The house is located on a quiet little street protected by security guards at night, so we had our privacy and felt safe at all times. The house was very clean. Overall, Samara is a very cute little town, filled with cafes, restaurants and bars. We booked everything including our car rentals over there at the Samara Info Center. Susan and Keith were also a pleasure to deal with and answered all of our questions. I would recommend the house especially for families as there are tons of activities to do in Samara, and there are enough rooms to accommodate large parties. My fiance and I will definitely be back!
We have rented many homes in Costa Rica, and would not rent this one again. The location was perfect. The furniture was very uncomfortable. It was very hot, and the only air was in a bedroom. Although there was a dryer, it had a sign on it not to use. I had to hang clothes outside. When I would get in the small pool my skin would burn and itch. There were cobwebs in three places. All of the doors and windows had instruction signs on them. You needed many keys for entry. Samara is a very nice area. We had some excellent meals in town. The neighbors two dogs were constantly barking.
Just finished our week long stay, and it was everything as advertised. The kids loved Samara, the pool, the beaches and ofcourse the Monkees! Drinking coffee on the porch each morning and watching the howler Monkees coming thru was a real treat! I never felt concerned for our welfare and the locals were more than eager to accommodate. We will be coming back again for another visit, what a wonderful place! Thanks for all the hospitality Susan and Keith and Laura was a pleasure as well.
I am a regular visitor to Samara and this little house is among my favorite rentals--I will definitely be back for a future visit. It is conveniently located on the edge of the town--an easy walk to cafes, shops and, above all, the beach. But it is very private and quiet; it is situated in a pristine location on the edge of the jungle--you will wake up to the sounds of birds and monkeys every day, enjoy the dazzling colors of flowers in the garden and along the walls and gates. The pool is wonderful--great for a cool dip after a long day outdoors. The amenities in the house are basic but everything is in good working order, clean and pleasant--exactly as in photographs. Susan, one of the owners, was a pleasure to communicate with via email--friendly and helpful with all questions. There may be a few other houses in Samara that have fancier amenities and more spectacular views of the bay from up in the hills, but if you are looking for simplicity, convenience, and tranquility, this house is a perfect choice for a wonderful and relaxing holiday.
There are an impressive variety of services for a small local village including an abundance of bar/restaurants, several grocery stores, a medical clinic (around the corner), 2 ATMs, a massage school (with great rates for massages!), surf schools, veterinarian, organic market, several bakeries, etc.
