This log cabin is on the edge of Lake Kathlyn in the beautiful Bulkley Valley near Smithers; the town of four seasons. Smithers offers all amenities and outdoor winter and summer sports.
Our three bedroom cabin offers two Queen rooms and a single small room with two bunk beds. There is also a heated room outside the kitchen for use as a drying room in the winter. All windows are double glazed. Lake Kathlyn freezes in the winter for all forms of XC skiing and skating and in the summer months has abundant wildlife humming birds, canada geese and loons. The cabin is 4km from Smithers and 1km from the airport. The lake is a sanctuary and no motorised boats are permitted. The downhill skiing and XC ski club are open for five months of the year. Highlights in the valley include the steelhead fishing season, hunting and hiking.

I grew up in Australia which does not have such spectacular mountains. Having worked in Canada in the 1980's I always wanted a classic Canadian log cabin on a lake with a view.
David Whish purchased this house in 2004
Smithers is in the Bulkley Valley which can be breathtakingly beautiful in all seasons. You do not see all the seasons in the tropics where I live. The cabin has been meticulously finished by the best local builder.
I have many friends in Smithers. I enjoy the skiing, hiking, wildlife and wilderness. A cross country ski around the lake is a great workout. Many types of humming birds appear in the Summer.
Love this place! Beautiful view from the log house and a great town with super friendly people just around the corner. We love the peacefulness of the lake with all the entertaining birds it attracts. The house is very spacious but still cozy with all the comforts of home! And all the summer activities and sports are right here at your fingertips.
Our family was so fortunate to spend 5 weeks at David's place as an extended visit with family who live in Smithers. The pictures do not do the house justice. The view is amazing (the lake, the mountain, the sunrises!!). We were fortunate to experience both fantastic ice conditions for skating after a flash freeze and, later, fantastic ski conditions on the lake. We enjoyed skating and skiing down the lake to the Eddy Line Cafe (there is a trail up from the mouth of the creek) for numerous coffees and brunches. Also great downhilling at Hudson Bay Mtn and cross country at Bulkley Valley Ski Club's Trails. David and Sherry were so easy to deal with and very accommodating of any requests. The house easily accommodated our family of 4...there would easily be room for 2 more. The dining area easily accommodated 10+ when we had our family over for New Year's Eve dinner and other nights. The bedrooms are generally big (except the 2nd bedroom upstairs but there is still plenty of room there for the kids). Only one thing if you have light sleepers is there is no sound barrier between the living area downstairs and the master bedroom/loft area upstairs. For us it was no problem as the kids were asleep in the other rooms. We look forward to going back some day!
From the moment we arrived we knew our stay would be wonderful. The view alone is worth the stay! The cabin is warm and inviting as well as spacious. It is well equipped and we loved its homey atmosphere. This would appeal to all sorts of travelers. Swimming in front of the property was not the best but there is a public beach across the lake with a sandy beach and there are several places to go for a beach day like Tyee lake among others. This did not deter us in anyway as the view as I said was worth the stay alone! We enjoyed sitting out on the patio enjoying our coffee as well as many evening BBQ's. This is a truly spectacular property.
Beautiful log home with the best views (lake, mountains). Spacious and very clean. I would definitively go back! Highly recommend. Great for all ages.
Spectacular doesnt even come close. The cottage was beautiful - well laid out, private, wuiet yet very open. Very unique design. It was also well stocked - everything you needed was there. The view from the west side of the cottage (out back) was breath taking. We had a hard time leaving. I would call it "a piece of paradise". We would return in a heartbeat - both because of the cabin and the town of Smithers. A beautiful vacation spot! A beautiful home!
