Aloha and Welcome to Nanea Kai. We are very proud to share our 1,800 sqr. ft. island style home with you. As you drive past your wooden sun carved gates, you will enter into your own private sanctuary. Our family living room is made up of Hawaii's prized Koa wood. Many windows let the cool breeze through as well as EACH room has its own ceiling fan. Our large kitchen is a great gathering spot and has a granite counter island that everyone can gather around. As you walk out onto the wrap around entertainment deck, you will look into the 1,500 sqr. ft. thermal heated swimming pond. Our pond ranges from 2ft.- 10 f. at the deepest spot. This pond is fed from under ground springs from the ocean so it rises and falls with the tide. This is also a great filtering system that keeps the water very clean and clear and with a temperature that is normally in the 80's. This makes snorkeling in the pond a pleasure. We do supply some snorkeling equipment as well as a hot/cold out side shower. If you take a right outside our drive way, you will see a tunnel of trees which leads to tide pools as well as the breathtaking view of the ocean. Walk another 6 minutes and your will be at the Wai' Ope Fish Reserve. See so many colorful fish as well as the different colored corals. This is Not a place you will find packed with people. A 5 minute drive will take you to Ahalanui warm springs park . Pahoa is a 15 minute drive with quaint restaurants and to do your marketing. Hilo Town is 30 minutes away where you can visit the farmers market with all its exotic fruits for sale as well as souvenirs, surf shops, restaurants, diving rentals , ect.. Across the street is a black sand beach were you can watch the canoe teams practice or walk and look for beach glass. Then theres the Volcano National Park you want to visit. Walk through lava tubes and see the steam vents. The Volcano Golf course is right above the park as well as the Volcano Winery. If its night time lava cascading down the volcano you want to see, thats about a 20 minute drive from our home. Viewing is free and it opens to the public at 5 p.m. Bring a jacket, flashlight (theres some at the house) and water. Park rangers are there to make sure everyone is safe. My favorite thing to do is just lay by the pond , feed the fish and enjoy the sound of the ocean. Hope you'll visit us soon.

My husband and I always rented a home in Kopoho to get away. We love it so much we decided to buy one. Its like stepping back in time.
The constant sound of the ocean.
My husband and I love Kopoho and we were very happy with this rental and it's location. We walked in the mornings, snorkeled in the afternoons and enjoyed every evening. PERFECT!!!
The house is clean and squared away. Plenty of room. Super quiet neighborhood. We hope to be back soon.
We did not know what to expect as we had never been to the Big Island before, let alone Pahoa/Kapoho. After the drive through amazing landscapes we arrived at our jungle home in awe of our surroundings. We felt right at home as we celebrated our Christmas here with a big turkey dinner, and bbq'd every night after. The house was clean and well looked after. We loved hanging out by the pond - the little fish really do nibble on your feet, something we all loved! We really enjoyed snorkeling as a family in the tidal pools so close by. The house is a great mid point to explore north to Hilo and the many hidden spots to the south. Owners were amazing, went out of their way for us. We really felt this is where we all started to unwind, relax and be together as a family and we all loved our stay! Mahalo Kim And Mark!
We stayed at Nanea Kai in late July/early August for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. There were 7 of us in our party including 8 & 10 year old grandchildren. The tidal pool was a big hit, both because of the Koi (the kids named each one) and because we could practice snorkeling in it. The house itself is well maintained and up to date. It was wonderful to have a washer & dryer to use. Beds were comfortable and we really appreciated the fans in every room. We traveled to the volcano, the Rainbow Falls, into Hilo, to Mona Kea Visitor’s Center, and across the island to swim and snorkel. We found restaurants & grocery stores in Pahoa although we did stop at Safeway in Hilo as we went through there.
We hope that Tropical Storm Iselle didn’t do damage to the property so that others will be able to enjoy it, also. Thanks, Kim, for a great time. We appreciated your house, all your snorkeling gear & boogie boards, and especially your flexibility on our departure time. Our 10 year old grandson summed it all up by saying, as we were leaving, “I’m going to miss this place.”
Exactly what we needed and more. The property is well kept and comfortably furnished. Ample room for living, sleeping, and just relaxing. As a foursome, we found the space comfortable enough to convenene and also escape to solitude as needed. The wrap around lanai is a real bonus. The place is also furnished for home cooked meals, grilling, and laundry. A big plus!
Kapoho itself defines chill. The tidepools down the street are serene.
I most definitely will be staying here again when in Kapoho.
If you're up for an adventure, this house is for you! We stayed here for three nights to see a different side of the Big Island, and it was an experience we won't forget. The house is absolutely gorgeous, in great condition despite the little geckos and bugs that make it inside, and amenities like fast Internet, cable, extra-nice beds and strong ceiling fans to make it comfortable. Beware: the coqui frogs that croak all night long on this side of the island are LOUD (like constant crickets chirping), and you will hear them. But don't let them bother you. Our young boys got used to it; we told them it was like camping. The koi pond outside was beautiful and our boys snorkled in it and loved feeding the fish every day with the food provided. We didn't get to relax outside though because the mosquitos kind of got to me. Bring bug spray. Also Kapoho is a 20(?) or so min drive from the nearest grocery store/restaurant in Pahoa, so make sure you're stocked up on goods. Pahoa is a fabulous little town - we loved Kalei's Restaurant. The house huge enough for two or more families to share; we only used two of the bedrooms. We wanted to sleep in the upstairs loft but it was too hot. The few random kids' toys & books available were appreciated. The absolute best thing about the Kapoho house was the 10-min walk (with young kids) to the Kapoho tide pools. Crystal clear, gorgeous, easily accessible, quiet and uncrowded, pristine and safe for kids to explore. We snorkled here every day, saw tons of fish and made great memories. Thanks for this amazing experience, and being instantly available when our cable went out, Kim!
My stay at Nanea Kai was fabulous! The house was spacious with many comfortable and cool areas to lounge and relax. The fish pond was gorgeous and so inviting. The water was cool, but not too cold and had healing properties that relaxed my entire body. The bathroom was spacious and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. I would recommend this vacation rental to anyone who wants a break from the hustle and bustle of a commercial hotel and would enjoy skinny dipping in a private pond and star gazing at night. Loved it!!
