1.5 Km from historic medieval town, lovely walks, lake with water sports nearby

Our home is a lovely four bedroom French style bungalow. It has private gardens front and back and is on a quiet road, off the main Pau - Biarritz road. We have our own private swimming pool in the back garden.

We are about an hour's drive from some of the main tourist attractions such as Lourdes and Biarritz but we have wonderful scenic country walks in the hills and valleys surrounding the property. There is also horse riding and water skiing available locally. We are an hour to an hour and half from some of the main ski runs and many of our neighbors go skiing at weekends or on school holidays. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the nearby town of Orthez and lovely chateaux and historic places to visit in the surrounding countryside and nearest large town, Pau. Salies de Bearn is a nearby spa town which has a wonderful treatment centre for pampering anyone who needs spoiling and the breathtaking Pyrenees await your visit.

Our house is surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside and parks. There are two lakes within five minutes drive of the house, both suitable for fishing and one which allows swimming and water skiing. There are lovely historic sites for those interested in exploring the past and the beaches, shops and restaurants of Biarritz and Bayonne will entertain all age groups. Further inland are the historic towns of Pau, Tarbes and Lourdes and a short trip south will take you to the border of Spain and the majestic slopes and ski runs of the Pyrenees. There is a world of natural beauty and quiet rural villages surrounding Orthez. It makes for an ideal, romantic, peaceful holiday. You will fall in love with the charming, friendly atmosphere in this beautiful, unspoilt corner of France. The rich cultures of the Bearn and the Basque people allow you to peep back to a time when people worked hard and lived well on the wonderful food & wine they produced. The local food is still wonderful! Enjoy.

  • Both bathrooms are new. The family bathroom was renovated in 2008 and also contains the hot water tank (cumulus) and there is a separate toilet adjoining this room. There is plenty of storage and heaters in all of the bathrooms and bedrooms.

  • The master bedroom was converted recently and has an adjoining bathroom. The bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe and drawers available to hold all clothing. All four rooms are suitable for both adults and children and the house is tiled throughout to help keep cleaning to a minimum. There are plenty of sheets and towels available and washing and drying machines and a clothesline. There is also a laundry service available in Orthez and a dry cleaning service in the nearby Leclerc store. All of the bedrooms have shutters and curtains and there are duvets and pillows on all the beds. We will have a cleaning service available for you at the end of your holiday.

Notes: Our house is suitable for anyone who would enjoy a holiday in a comfortable family home. There are books and DVDs left for our guests and we try to insure that everyone who stays feels comfortable and welcome. There are enough plates dishes and pans etc for twelve people and we have often had summer barbecues for large parties of neighbours and friends. Although the house was built in the 70's, it has been renovated to a high standard and is very child friendly. There is a cover for the pool and we would ask that the pool remains covered whenever the occupants are absent from the house as this is now French law. We have people, who live nearby available to help in any difficulty or emergency and there is a local clinic and hospital available in nearby Orthez. There is also a local taxi service which we use when we have dinner in town and don't wish to drive home. The supermarket, Leclerc is about ten minutes walk from the house and it will have anything that a family needs.

Family holiday

We were a group of three teenagers and two adults. The house was plenty big enough for us all (still had a spare bedroom with two sets of bunk beds!) and was very well equipped. We loved the swimming pool, it was such a great asset, a really good size and well maintained. The house had all the mod cons like dishwasher and washing machine to make the stay super relaxed. The owners were great to book with, really helpful and friendly. We did find the local town quiet for our needs but that is a personal thing. It was a very relaxing holiday and we thought great value for money :)

Fantastic holiday in home away from home

We stayed at the family house in Orthez this August and had a fantastic holiday. The propety was well located and had lots of home comforts.
We thoughly enjoyed the holiday and would definately return.

The house was well layed out and had plenty of room for our two famlies. The pool was great and of a good size and also well maintained. Someone came regularly to check the pool and clean it.

The owner was vey quick to respond if we had any problems or queries.The television broke while we were there and it was replaced in a few hours. There is a local person who speaks english on hand for any problems or advice.

The local area was lovely we went cycling around the neaby lakes, surfing in Biarritz, drove to San Sebastian. There was lots to do we did not manage to do everything we set out to do because we also loved chilling out around the pool and having bbqs. Shops are located neaby and we often cycled down to get bread and croissants.

We have a brillant holiday and would highly recommend property.

A lovely stay during May and June 2010

We really enjoyed our stay, the property was very clean and spacious with lovely gardens and pool, plenty of pool loungers even the use of bikes. Tony was very helpful with information and also Dee when we arrived to show us the property. We would certainly like to stay again. The property is situated within easy reach of the sea and mountains and we had quite a few trips into spain. Jim and Sandie

Lovely bungalow in Orthez

We had a lovely week in Orthez and the bungalow was beautiful. It had everything you needed and the pool and gorgeous. It felt very homely and was extremely clean and tidy and had a fresh, cool feeling about the place on a very hot day! I would definitely recommend it to anyone and we plan to go back next year.

great house in beautiful part of france

just back from a 1 week holiday in beautiful part of france. we all loved this house, it has everything we could have wished for and the owners did everything possible to make our stay as pleasant as possible, great setting, lovely pool and house has all you require. located in great area, nice quite road and still only short distance to town and shops. have no problem in reccomending this property to anyone
