VERY CLOSE TO TOWN VINTAGE VICTORIAN IN HISTORIC DISTRICT

Lewes House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

Seaside historic Lewes, Delaware charms visitors all year long with quaint shops, restaurants, art galleries, maritime history, gardens and beaches. Walk/ bike to all of these. Soak up the full Lewes experience by staying close to town in this vintage Victorian house. A block to dinner at the Buttery or coffee at Azafran. Drink that extra glass of wine and save your meter money for you can easily walk home. We just added a ping pong table in the garage!

Come morning prop your feet up on the porch railing and experience this small town wake up. Snow geese honk overhead, boats toot horns and people will wave and say 'good morning.' Or nap hammock style under the pine bough in the secluded backyard garden. Walk and fish, boat or kayak in the Lewes canal. Cross over the canal bridge a half mile to the bay beach with a light house view. Hop the nearby ferry to Cape May to see more Victorian architecture and stores where you can pay sales tax but come back to Lewes to buy that expensive diamond necklace for there is no sales tax here in Delaware. Go to the Rehoboth outlets and save more especially off season. But don't forget we are at the beach so go the mile to Cape Henlopen Park. The surf, sun and sand are our main attraction. Here miles of pristine Atlantic beach stretch from the Cape to Rehoboth. You can even bring Fido to some. Swim in season, walk and collect shells or view migratory birds all year long. Cape Henlopen has miles of nature, bike trails and bird watching areas.

Too much fun in Lewes to list. We are the 'civilized beach' so come, slow down drive 25mph or park your car and don't drive. Here you can walk and bike everywhere!

Both owners are artists! The house displays their paintings, drawings and even a faux cherry pie, bowl of fruit and plants around. Caryl writes and illustrates children's books and you may find a copy of her book 'The Words' out for you to read.

Caryl E Williams purchased this house in 2002

Came to Lewes and LOVED it. Bought this house where our family vacationed for years. Now we own another Lewes house where we live but we do miss the close in location of Franklin Avenue house!

First the location, everything is walkable! Second our house has a living room and separate TV/Den. This means the TV can be on and the living room can be for quiet reading. Third the private patio backyard!

Beautiful Home!!!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time. The owners supplied everything we needed. I loved the backyard with the hammock. Luke, my dog, had an exceptional time. The owners provided a special blanket, toys, and food bowls. We enjoyed the dog beach at Henelopen State Park. We also explored the new trail at the park. The neighbors were very nice. I went to Zumba on Wednesday. It's free but you may give a donation. We ate at striper bites a couple times and was able to bring my dog as they have outdoor seating. We also enjoyed the nearby city parks. I love how the owners decorated the home. The tv was great. A lot of channels. My husband watched a little too much soccer. The internet was also great. There was 5 of us and we had plenty of room. The owner left us a bottle of wine which I enjoyed while my husband went grocery shopping. I loved sitting on the front porch.

A great home in an even better neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint home. The size of the house and the bedroom configuration was perfect for our group of 3 adults and 3 under-age-10 kids. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms that sleep 2 people each (one bed per bedroom). One of those bedrooms has an attached bathroom, and through a set of folding doors the bedroom attaches to another bedroom with 3 twin beds. This setup was perfect for keeping the kids close at night in case they woke up confused in a strange place. There is also a foldout couch-bed in the downstairs TV room - convenient if you need to sleep a couple of extra people. The kids especially loved the hammock in the backyard and the ping-pong table in the garage. We loved that the block is so quiet and safe (the police station is 2 houses away) - we were perfectly comfortable letting the kids play outside unsupervised. We made good use of the BBQ grill, and Caryl was kind enough to let us pick the tomatoes and basil growing in the garden. Even better, though, was the location - so close to so many great places! We could walk to Lewes' charming shopping district in minutes - and made frequent stops at King's for their amazing homemade ice cream! We could even walk to the beach (saving money on parking), and it quickly became one of our favorite spots in Lewes - quiet, not crowded, and with calm waters perfect for young kids to swim in. We made a couple of trips to the local marina, too (again within walking distance), to go on a shark-fishing trip and a pirate boat adventure for the kids. When we wanted more excitement, Rehoboth was a short drive away. Really, we couldn't have asked for anything more from this fantastic rental, and we can't wait to go back again.

GREAT VACATION HOME, WONDERFUL OWNERS

  • 5 of 5
Great proximity to both beach and downtown Lewes. The owners had everything in the house that you could possibly want for a week away from home. We had one issue with the faucet and within two hours the owner had it repaired. Neighbors went out of their way to say hello. And it was a perfect place for our dog, secured with the fence in the back yard and safe for late night walks. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Poor Deal

  • 1 of 5
This older house was cramped, the A/C was not sufficient to cool the upstairs and the beds uncomfortable. The backyard had a grill that hadn't been cleaned in a long time and no patch of grass the our dog to be comfortable lying on. We left a day early due to the circumstances and will not be renting through VRBO again; instead we'll use a realtor which has been effective in all of our previous years at the shore.

Owner's Response: I simply cannot understand this review. Over three years we have had so many lovely guests, a few take the time to write a review, many others leave notes and send emails. This review has me confused for I do not understand why this couple would feel this way. Especially because they did not call us with any concerns nor will they talk to us to clarify questions we have since they wrote this review. They came with their energetic young dog and did have a week of unfortunate weather. I wish I could guarantee perfect weather but I can’t. I cried some but will just move on.

Great property!

  • 5 of 5
Picking a place to stay from the internet can be a scary thing. You never know what you're going to get. But that's just what I did with this place - picked it online based on pictures and got very lucky. I hosted my sister's bachelorette party here. There were 7 women and it did not feel cramped at all with beds for everyone and 3 showers - a must for 7 women. All of the ladies commented on how unique and beautiful the place was. Aside from the spacious house, the very private back patio was a terrific spot to have dinners, sunbathe, socialize, whatever. It's a very short drive to the beach. And while it's situated in a very quaint, sleepy neighborhood, it's a short drive (or taxi ride) to some great nightlife. Everyone in my group said they wished we had been able to stay for longer than the 4 days we had. It's a perfect place for vacation.

Perfect for our two dogs!

  • 5 of 5
This was the perfect set up for our two dogs. We loved that everything was in walking distance. Explored the town on many walks. My dogs were right at home from the begining. This was a relaxing and enjoyable get away. Thank you Caryl for all your help and kind words!
