Overview

Lewes House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

Seaside historic Lewes, Delaware charms visitors all year long with quaint shops, restaurants, art galleries, maritime history, gardens and beaches. Walk/ bike to all of these. Soak up the full Lewes experience by staying close to town in this vintage Victorian house. A block to dinner at the Buttery or coffee at Azafran. Drink that extra glass of wine and save your meter money for you can easily walk home. We just added a ping pong table in the garage!

Come morning prop your feet up on the porch railing and experience this small town wake up. Snow geese honk overhead, boats toot horns and people will wave and say 'good morning.' Or nap hammock style under the pine bough in the secluded backyard garden. Walk and fish, boat or kayak in the Lewes canal. Cross over the canal bridge a half mile to the bay beach with a light house view. Hop the nearby ferry to Cape May to see more Victorian architecture and stores where you can pay sales tax but come back to Lewes to buy that expensive diamond necklace for there is no sales tax here in Delaware. Go to the Rehoboth outlets and save more especially off season. But don't forget we are at the beach so go the mile to Cape Henlopen Park. The surf, sun and sand are our main attraction. Here miles of pristine Atlantic beach stretch from the Cape to Rehoboth. You can even bring Fido to some. Swim in season, walk and collect shells or view migratory birds all year long. Cape Henlopen has miles of nature, bike trails and bird watching areas.

Too much fun in Lewes to list. We are the 'civilized beach' so come, slow down drive 25mph or park your car and don't drive. Here you can walk and bike everywhere!

About Caryl E Williams

Both owners are artists! The house displays their paintings, drawings and even a faux cherry pie, bowl of fruit and plants around. Caryl writes and illustrates children's books and you may find a copy of her book 'The Words' out for you to read.

Caryl E Williams purchased this house in 2002

Why Caryl E Williams chose Lewes

Came to Lewes and LOVED it. Bought this house where our family vacationed for years. Now we own another Lewes house where we live but we do miss the close in location of Franklin Avenue house!

What makes this house unique

First the location, everything is walkable! Second our house has a living room and separate TV/Den. This means the TV can be on and the living room can be for quiet reading. Third the private patio backyard!

Beautiful Home!!!

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time. The owners supplied everything we needed. I loved the backyard with the hammock. Luke, my dog, had an exceptional time. The owners provided a special blanket, toys, and food bowls. We enjoyed the dog beach at Henelopen State Park. We also explored the new trail at the park. The neighbors were very nice. I went to Zumba on Wednesday. It's free but you may give a donation. We ate at striper bites a couple times and was able to bring my dog as they have outdoor seating. We also enjoyed the nearby city parks. I love how the owners decorated the home. The tv was great. A lot of channels. My husband watched a little too much soccer. The internet was also great. There was 5 of us and we had plenty of room. The owner left us a bottle of wine which I enjoyed while my husband went grocery shopping. I loved sitting on the front porch.

Perfect location and property for our needs, very hospitable owner

  • 5 of 5
Warm and welcoming. Though large for our needs, it was an ideal location and property. Easy walking to town and restaurants as well as the beach. We brought our two small dogs and the back yard was perfect, fenced in, private, and perfect ammenities.
The rooms were comfortable and the kitchen well equipted.
We chose in town, close to restaurants and the historic district. Although the beach was still close enough, it was not a beach vacation.
Nearby restaurants were marvelous, lots offering outdoor seating (for us and the dogs). Try Stiper Bites definitely, and Taste of Italy was authentic. Kindle was also great for lunch. Every one was very friendly
If you are traveling with a larger group, just keep in mind you must go through bedroom 2 to get to the upstairs bath and bedroom 3. That is the only thing I could see might be a negative.
The owner welcomed us with a nice bottle of wine and was certain to keep us up to date on some events going on the weekend we were there.

A Great Time in Lewes

  • 5 of 5
This is 'our' third trip to Lewes and stay in the historic district--in the same Victorian on the edges of the historic district. Despite some interesting weather, my Golden and I had a blast at the beach, hikes at Prime Hook and Cape Henalopen, and good food a short walk away. Owners of the rental could not be nicer and more helpful!!

Charming house, great location.

  • 5 of 5
My husband, our dog and I stayed in this lovely house during one of the most spectacular late summer weeks imaginable. We brought our bikes and either biked or walked everywhere, as the location is ideal. The house itself is very charming and quite comfortable. My husband and I actually slept on the sofa bed in the den downstairs because our dog had an injury and wasn't supposed to go up stairs. This worked out perfectly! We were right next to the kitchen, the big bathroom and the door to the deck/backyard. Relatives who visited for a few days stayed in the upstairs "suite" and were very pleased and loved the house as well. We made good use of the deck, the front porch, the great outdoor shower, well equipped kitchen and the ping pong table. The owner could not have been more gracious and available for any need (even though there were none). We hope to return next year!

Lovely House in Lewes!

  • 5 of 5
My family, which includes three dogs, just returned from our annual vacation at the beach. We rented this great house and could not have asked for more! The owner was thoughtful and helpful and made us feel at home. The house is 550 steps from downtown Lewes which was great! We walked everywhere and enjoyed being so close to all the fun eateries and shops. Super close to Helopen State park which was fun to take the dogs to.

The house itself is just adorable! Great spaces for the humans and the dogs. The backyard was great with it's hammock and deck. The dogs loved roaming freely because it was entirely fenced in. On evenings we wanted to eat home, the kitchen was fully stocked with all the things you need to cook.

We could not have asked for a better place to stay! Highly recommend this home for your next vacation! We had such a great week!

A great home in an even better neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint home. The size of the house and the bedroom configuration was perfect for our group of 3 adults and 3 under-age-10 kids. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms that sleep 2 people each (one bed per bedroom). One of those bedrooms has an attached bathroom, and through a set of folding doors the bedroom attaches to another bedroom with 3 twin beds. This setup was perfect for keeping the kids close at night in case they woke up confused in a strange place. There is also a foldout couch-bed in the downstairs TV room - convenient if you need to sleep a couple of extra people. The kids especially loved the hammock in the backyard and the ping-pong table in the garage. We loved that the block is so quiet and safe (the police station is 2 houses away) - we were perfectly comfortable letting the kids play outside unsupervised. We made good use of the BBQ grill, and Caryl was kind enough to let us pick the tomatoes and basil growing in the garden. Even better, though, was the location - so close to so many great places! We could walk to Lewes' charming shopping district in minutes - and made frequent stops at King's for their amazing homemade ice cream! We could even walk to the beach (saving money on parking), and it quickly became one of our favorite spots in Lewes - quiet, not crowded, and with calm waters perfect for young kids to swim in. We made a couple of trips to the local marina, too (again within walking distance), to go on a shark-fishing trip and a pirate boat adventure for the kids. When we wanted more excitement, Rehoboth was a short drive away. Really, we couldn't have asked for anything more from this fantastic rental, and we can't wait to go back again.
