The gite is situated in the Perigord National Park in Limousin in central south west France. It provides for families and couples looking for a cost effective leisurely break. The local lake provides excellent recreational facilities with free parking, restaurant, WC, changing facilities and pedalo hire. Shops and amenities are within 3 km at the local town of St Mathieu. The gite provides roomy basic accommodation and consists of 3 double bedrooms, shower room, sep WC, kitchen, dining room and lounge. The front garden is on an elevated island of shaded trees. The area is famous for its wild life, lakes and walks so is well suited to nature lovers. Further afield are the tourist sites of the Dordogne, Limoges and its porcelain museums, not forgetting the local Velorail sites. Futoroscope is also only an hours drive north near Poitiers. Flights are available to Limoges and Angouleme which are a 40 minute drive away. Drive time from Calais is 6-7 hours and 4-5 hours from Caen.

The gite is situated in Neuville, a quiet hamlet just north of the local town of St Mathieu in South West France within the Perigord National Park. The surrounding area is populated with numerous forests and lakes and is a delight for nature lovers. Main local attraction are the nearby Lake and beach at St Mathieu for those wishing to stay local. Chateau's can be found along the local 'Route of King Richard the Lionheart' for those interested in history. The local martyr village of Oradour sur Glane is a stark reminder of how France suffered under Nazi occupation during WW2.The Dordogne tourist sites are only an hour's drive away but many prefer the local walks and beauty of the Perigord national park. The Futuroscope at Poitiers is also only an hours drive north. For those who love city shopping try Limoges, Angouleme or Perigreux. Families will love the nature beauty of the area and when combined with the surrounding attractions will find there is something for everyone.

    Costs include gas and electricity.
    Costs exclude central heating and provision of bed linen and towels.
    Use of log burner prohibited unless agreed beforehand.

Cooker is a 4 ring propane gas cooker with a small oven. Two fold up portable chairs. Garden table and 5 chairs can be placed in the garden on patio. Garden/patio is situated in front of the house on a raised walled island with several shade giving trees. Safe for children. Barbecue is stored in lounge. Television and videos supplied. CD and tape Hi Fi in dining room. Iron and ironing board. Numerous books can be found in lounge.

ROUND AND BAOUT: Walking - The gite lies in a small hamlet in very ruaral settings. It is on the route of several 'marked' walking routes all colour markers along the route. They vary from 5-15 km in length and most pass our hamlet and the local lake. Cycling - 2 cycles available (1 gents 1 ladies), mountain bike style Wild life - Fantastic area for all types of wild life. Deer, buzzards, stoats etc,jays etc in abundance. Bring the binoculars Picnics - Best place for this is the lake but feel free to use the picnic equipment provided anywhere

Other Activities: velorail sites at confelon and bussierre galant plus local walking trails

The Gite is spacious, comfortable and well maintained. It is an easy 40 minute drive from Limoges airport. Set in rural surroundings it is peaceful and tranquil. The nearest town of St. Mathieu is only 3 km and has shops and amenities. There are also several excellant restaurants within a 3 to 5 km radius. An ideal place to relax and forget the hum drum of daily routine.

A relaxing and authentic French getaway

We (3 adults, 2 children under 8) stayed for 10 days in July/August 2004.

The Gite is well laid out, clean and vey roomy. The patio area is ideal for evening meals. The kitchen is well equipped and the batroom/toilet facilities are pleasantly presented.

The location is very quiet and is ideal for anyone needing a real get away from hectic day to day life. The local lake and beach are a short drive away and are quite lovely. During peak season there is lifegaurd patrol which is reassuring if you have young children. The restaurant at the lake serves good food if you can't be bothered to prepare a picnic.

The location makes for a very authentic French holiday, and hiring a car is recommended to make the most of the beauty and historical significance of the region.

All in all we would recommend both the gite and the location for a wide variety of holiday makers. We had a lovely stay and hope that others might too.
