We are originally from NJ but my husband's grandparents lived in Coaldale, PA which is about 20 minutes from Jim Thorpe. When we were going to retire we decided to look around this area and found this magnificent town of Jim Thorpe. We love the history, the architecture and the fact that there is so much to do in this small town. When we bought our house we decided to invest in other properties and that is how we acquired our rental property. We also liked the fact that the house is just above our home so we are not absentee landlords

The only place I would stay in Jim Thorpe.

Where do I begin. . . well I'll start by saying we were really lucky (thanks to a cancelation) to experience Jim Thorpe surrounded by the romantic ammentities of the VanPelt House. I made a lot of calls to alot of places before coming up with this little gem. Located on a hill overlooking Broadway
we were able to park the car free on sight and was only a 4 - 5 minute walk to all the action in town.
You are literally in a 2-story 1800's house of your own with everything you need with a fully appointed kitchen, private back deck overlooking the town, and a cottage feel throughout the house. The owner
got us started with great suggestions for visiting "certain" restaurants, the old jail, the Asa Packer mansion tour, best pubs, opera house gigs, and was just an all around sweetheart. Since I am a professional pianist, she also helped me sort out where I could find my instrument. I don't think we could have picked a better time than fall folliage weekends to go. Though we love beaches, palm trees
and sunny resorts, this was truly one of coolest weekend experiences my wife and I have ever had.
Thank you, Helen for giving us the perfect place have it all.

Owner's Response: I'm so happy you had such a great time in Jim Thorpe and enjoyed staying in my small cottage-like house! I try very hard to make my guests as comfortable as possible and have a positive experience. Seems like I was successful in your case. I enjoyed speaking with you and hope to see you again very soon.

The space was certainly adequate, and we were able to park at the house. The house was clean, but the lack of a wifi connection was more annoying than we had thought it would be. There also is no washer and dryer available. The heating system requires overheating downstairs to get heat upstairs. The bed was really uncomfortable in that it is hard and not level. There was adequate hot water, but the tub is slippery and there are no grab bars, plus the heavy fabric shower curtain gives you the sensation of bathing in a closet. The location was great, within easy walking distance of shops, etc. In warmer weather, the deck would be very nice.

Owner's Response: Our experience after 4 years of owning this vacation house is that the majority of guests do not use wifi while vacationing. There are many places in town with wifi connections that you can sit and relax, get a cup of coffee etc. Thank you for letting me know about the slippery tub. No one has ever said anything about it being slippery so I went yesterday and bought a tub mat. The house is from 1853, so yes, the floors are not exactly level. When I am in the house I feel the true experience of being in that old of a home. The mattress will be replaced in a month or so. I hope you will come back and hope you had a good time in Jim Thorpe.
