We are originally from NJ but my husband's grandparents lived in Coaldale, PA which is about 20 minutes from Jim Thorpe. When we were going to retire we decided to look around this area and found this magnificent town of Jim Thorpe. We love the history, the architecture and the fact that there is so much to do in this small town. When we bought our house we decided to invest in other properties and that is how we acquired our rental property. We also liked the fact that the house is just above our home so we are not absentee landlords
Helen Van Pelt Hlavka purchased this house in 2005
You are staying right in the heart of downtown but in a quiet and secluded area. Steps away from Broadway.
Staying at our house enables you to not have to drive anywhere. You can walk to everything in town.
Spent a week here and it was just great. Convenient to all in town.
The house was clean and comfortable. Hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable.
Very nice stay. Great location. Helen was very helpful. will go back.
Nice brunch at the Albrightsville house?? New years eve dinner at Moya was great!
had a nice relaxing time!!
We had a great stay in this cozy home; it was so great to be able to bring our whole family, our dog Bailey included! The house is warm and cozy and in walking distance to most attractions in town!!! Would recommend this home to anyone:)
Where do I begin. . . well I'll start by saying we were really lucky (thanks to a cancelation) to experience Jim Thorpe surrounded by the romantic ammentities of the VanPelt House. I made a lot of calls to alot of places before coming up with this little gem. Located on a hill overlooking Broadway
we were able to park the car free on sight and was only a 4 - 5 minute walk to all the action in town.
You are literally in a 2-story 1800's house of your own with everything you need with a fully appointed kitchen, private back deck overlooking the town, and a cottage feel throughout the house. The owner
got us started with great suggestions for visiting "certain" restaurants, the old jail, the Asa Packer mansion tour, best pubs, opera house gigs, and was just an all around sweetheart. Since I am a professional pianist, she also helped me sort out where I could find my instrument. I don't think we could have picked a better time than fall folliage weekends to go. Though we love beaches, palm trees
and sunny resorts, this was truly one of coolest weekend experiences my wife and I have ever had.
Thank you, Helen for giving us the perfect place have it all.
The space was certainly adequate, and we were able to park at the house. The house was clean, but the lack of a wifi connection was more annoying than we had thought it would be. There also is no washer and dryer available. The heating system requires overheating downstairs to get heat upstairs. The bed was really uncomfortable in that it is hard and not level. There was adequate hot water, but the tub is slippery and there are no grab bars, plus the heavy fabric shower curtain gives you the sensation of bathing in a closet. The location was great, within easy walking distance of shops, etc. In warmer weather, the deck would be very nice.
We are so glad we found Jim Thorpe, PA and this house! Home was incredibly clean and very cozy. Helen was very easy to contact and a pleasure to work with. Her recommendations for local restaurants were very helpful- we are glad we asked her! Our family is eager to return to Jim Thorpe and to stay at this house again. Kids are already asking when we can go back! Thanks, Helen!
