2nd time back even better than the 1st

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 6 adults and 2 children happily returned to Cliffside this year for another terrific week looking out over the Sakonnet River. It was like a homecoming - we had confidence that everything we needed was right there, from ample towels, kitchen supplies and lawn chairs to where to find the best grocery stores and restaurants. We returned to our favorites around Newport and Middletown, and then explored further afield into Tiverton, which is charming, and Jamestown, which is a boaters dream.
The owner is great to work with being very responsive and straightforward with information and explanations and the pictures are very accurate except that they can scarcely do justice to the views. The cottage is very clean and comfortable, being very homey and not fussy at all, and she provides sets of towels in a different color for each person which is great so that folks don't easily get their things mixed up. Having a washer and dryer makes mothers very happy and makes it possible to not have to pack every piece of clothing you own in case of bad weather.
The boating and kayaking are fabulous, the fishing is excellent, biking, walking, swimming, EVERYTHING is great here, because there is something beautiful to see around every corner, and water, water, everywhere! Everyone talks about Newport, which is a great place to visit, but Battleship Cove just 20 mins away in Fall River is historic, educational and its own kind of amazing, and New Bedford has a great harbor and the Whaling Museum, and Tiverton has terrific farm stands and lovely shops and a most scenic drive with stone walls of all sorts of picturesque types around its agricultural areas. So the location of Cliffside is quite perfect for staying home to relax with a great view, or heading out in all direction of the compass to explore, or finding anything you need in a very short distance from the house.
We would absolutely recommend this property, and this owner to friends and relatives.

Great Vacation Spot

  • 4 of 5
Our family had a wonderful week at this inviting, comfortable house in Portsmouth. The home was spotless and full of extras that are unusual in vacation homes, such as linens, towels (even for the beach) and beach chairs and even bicycles. The location is beautiful, surrounded by water on both sides, with a back deck overlooking a wide river filled with sailboats. The home is large and accommodating for large groups, with a large kitchen and living room on the first floor and a very large living room upstairs with a flat screen TV. The furniture is comfortable and the beds are great, which is also unusual in rental properties. The owner is highly responsive and helpful. There are many restaurants nearby, and these are described on an information sheet available in the kitchen. Newport and great beaches are nearby, about 1/2 hour for Second Beach, which is particularly good. The photos are accurate, which we also appreciated. The only "minus" features are mentioned in other reviews. If 4.5 stars had been an option, I would have chosen that, and we certainly would recommend this property.

Charming home-great getaway!

  • 4 of 5
We had a mini family reunion in rhode island with 8 of us and cliffside was a perfect choice! We were there for just two days, which was way too short to enjoy this beautiful home. I wish we had been there longer. There is so much this home offers, plus a great backyard overlooking the water.
The owner of the home is also very responsive. She took us on a tour upon arrival and was available to answer any questions or address issues throughout our stay.
There are also bikes, fishing poles, beach chairs available--which was a nice added touch.
The home is well equipped with all amenities that you may need. We were able to cook, bake and really feel at home. Also, there is a grill in the backyard that we didn't have time to use!
We were there mostly to enjoy the beach and go to the mansions--both of which were about half hour away. Highly recommend second beach!
My only slight issue with the home were the bathrooms. They were very small-one upstairs and one downstairs. It got a little cramped at times for 8 people. But other than this, the home was perfect and I would highly recommend it. Really hassle free wonderful experience.

Girlfriend getaway

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I had a lovely time at the cottage. It was very clean and the owner was very easy to deal with. You do need to know that for one bedroom one has to walk through one of the other bedrooms but it was not a problem for us. The view was lovely - we had coffee on the deck in the morning.

Simply Charming

  • 5 of 5
My 3 friends and I enjoyed Cliffside for our girls' weekend away and it couldn't have been lovelier! The cottage is charming, and quiet, clean as a whistle, and with terrific views of the waterfront it was just perfect for our get-together. We ventured easily to Newport, Bristol and Tiverton and made good use of the owner's information packet provided for us, but what we liked the most was relaxing in the yard overlooking the water and having drinks and meals on the porch and deck. I would go back to this charming little cottage again for sure.

Couples Getaway with a View

  • 5 of 5
We went with my friend & her husband for a long weekend. All I can say is we never wanted to leave! The house was clean & bright…made you feel right at home. Upon arrival the owner had everything set up for us. You had 2 places to eat the kitchen & sun porch w/beautiful views of the outside w/a door leading to the deck. The home had all the amenities you would need. The upstairs living room was spacious; couches were super comfy to relax on after a long day of activities. All the bedrooms were nice sizes & the owner even had additional blankets /pillows if you needed. The beds/pillows were very high quality so we slept like babies! The master bedroom has a wall of windows so waking up all you see is water. The view was breathtaking, unlike anything we have ever seen. Every morning you get to relax on the upper deck (accessible form the Master), overlooking the water w/ your coffee. Morning or night you could not beat the views. We were able to walk down by the water in the back of the house & take in the views from there as well. The owner set aside detailed notes for us on where & what to do, great restaurants, what type of food they served. Her restaurant selections were perfectly on point & most were w/in a mile of the house. We went to Graziano’s 501 Restaurant for breakfast. 15 Point Restaurant had great food & views…the most perfectly cooked scallops ever w/ great steak dishes. Newport had so much to do. Went to Thames Glass Company & did glass blowing. Went on the “10 Mile Ocean Drive” which is a must w/ plenty of places to stop & take pictures. Took a sunset cruise w/ Gansett Cruises, $26pp, included a 1:45min cruise w/ champagne & appetizer. We priced out the cruises & this was the best one. Cooke House in Newport was by far our favorite restaurant, prices were on the higher end but quality of food was worth it. Order the filet mignon, cooked perfectly & melts in your mouth. The owner suggested Sakonett Winery. Nice selections of both reds & whites. Mansion tours were on our list, unfortunately we ran out of time. Overall this was one of our most favorite, relaxing vacation we have ever taken. None of us wanted to go home & I can tell you we will definitely be back to this house. The owner was so nice & knowledgeable (she was like our own “trip advisor”) of what Rhode Island has to offer. She was a step ahead w/anything we needed. Thank you for a fabulous long weekend for our first time in Rhode Island. Our only wish was we stayed longer!
