A Perfect VIsit to Rome
I rented the beautiful, sunny Vatican apartment for two and one-half weeks in March 2013. Throughout my visit, relatives and friends stayed, most for a few days at a time. We all agree it is the best vacation we've ever had and we are already planning the next trip. Even before we arrived I was getting e-mails from friends saying "Andrea is wonderful!" He arranged transportation from the airport and back, and helped with many other details. He was always available when we had a question or needed something. He provided a very useful, detailed apartment/neighborhood guide. The apartment is quite accurately presented in the ad, except that the rooms are actually a bit larger than they look in the photos. I would recommend this place for groups of friends (we had three or four most of the time with extra dinner guests) and for families. It would accommodate two couples very well, three if you are really good friends. The bedrooms have large cupboards. Absolutely no one got on each others nerves, I think mostly because we had a congenial group, but also because there was enough room to spread out and be comfortable. The location is great. I especially wanted to visit St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which are ten minutes walk for me, always the slowest one in the group. In addition to being an easy walk from the underground, it is only 1.5 blocks from Piazza Risorgimento, where several convenient bus lines and trams stop. Taxis are easy to find with two taxi stands within a couple of blocks. For dedicated walkers, the city center, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, and Trastevere are all a comfortable walk. The kitchen is quite well equipped. We cooked in often. There is a great farmer's market a block away, a treat in itself, and supermarkets and take-out places quite near. Directly across the street is a small, charming caffe (Ottaviano Caffe Cinci) where we got morning coffee. They also have panini and a small selection of hot food, very convenient and delicious. We used everything in the apartment, dishwasher, washing machine, TV and everything in the kitchen and it all worked fine. The furnishings are from IKEA, typical of a vacation rental, in good condition and comfortable. The sofa bed makes into a double bed, and my friends reported it to be comfortable. I found the decor to be very restful on the eyes after a day of looking at Baroque churches and Renaissance palaces. In summary -- highly recommended. Try the blues club next door!
