Photos and Description of the Frankfort vacation cottage rental
Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Living in our cottage gives you that real summer feeling. Lots of space outside to use anytime of the day as deck is on east and south side, patio and screen porch are on the west. There is an easy walk, slightly down hill, to our sandy beach on Crystal Lake. As we have a joint ownership with two of our friends, living in the other two cottages, we share the wonderful sandy beach, where you will love to go barefoot.

Our cottage is just east of the Congregational Summer Assembly (CSA). For reasonable fees, you can join them for swimming and tennis lessons and tournaments, children's and adult theater, church choir, slide shows, dinners, and other social events.

The construction of the walls are 1/2 log siding, with the grey curved side on the exterior, and the flat finished wood side on the interior. Timber frame construction, with lofts on either side of the living room enclose the bedrooms and den and allow for a two story living room and dining room, and huge stone wood burning fireplace. It has a very warm, cosy, cottage feeling inside.

Full large kitchen with access to screen porch. Lots of storage space. Patio is a great space for cocktails. Twin beds (2) in south bedroom with full bath with shower and tub.  Second bedroom, double bed, with attached half bath.  You walk through the half bath, or to outside deck to the master suite with double bed and desk, and full bath with shower and tub with grab handles.  The den, by the front door, has books, and a wonderful couch to curl up in and read for an afternoon.

There is no additional heat, so always bring something warm to curl up in on chilly mornings. Mid morning, with the sun shining, it will warm up quickly.  Because it is partially in the trees, it stays cool on hot days. Bring good walking shoes, umbrella, swim suit, sun tan lotion, hat, warm jacket, light weight casual clothes.

Please feel free to call us or email us with questions and suggestions. The library in Frankfort has computers for your use, and wifi.

About The Owner

I have been a professional photographer, specializing in architecture, for almost 40 years. I live and work out of Burlington, Vt.

My passion is to keep Lake Champlain and Crystal Lake clean.

I love dogs, and I have a wonderful 'woodle' visit almost everyday. She is a cross between a poodle and wheaton terrier.

My main sport is swimming. I have been going up to Crystal Lake since I was 8

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1952
Why The Owner chose Frankfort

My mother came up to Crystal Lake from St Louis in the early 1920's and we have been coming up here ever since. In 1952 my parents bought some land and built three grey log cottages. The largest, on the hill, is ours. The other two cottages are now part of Grey Logs Assoc. and owned by other people. We all love to swim, and thus visiting Crystal Lake every summer, the ultimate place to swim, was perfect

We also loved the camaraderie of belonging to the CSA, for tennis lessons, theater, church choir, dinners.

What makes this cottage unique

I have always loved swimming in the late afternoon at Crystal Lake. It is just magnificent. You might want to rent a small boat and row out into the middle and just relax, with a picnic lunch. Sitting on the beach and reading your favorite pulp fiction, while you sip on homemade lemonade is just the very best.

Our cottage is just a short drive to Frankfort for all basic supplies, and walking the long sandy beach on Lake Michigan. Within an hour, you can do all of the many adventures I have listed on my map. Please see photos, too.

A fabulous family getaway -- with oppotunities for lots of short day-trips

My husband and I, our 2 young sons, and my parents spent a lovely week at the Bates Cottage. The home was very comfortable and it was wonderful to come "home" after a day at the beach or sightseeing and be able to make a home-cooked meal and relax. We loved Point Betsie and the pier/lighthouse in Frankfort. We made it to the Cherry Hut in Beulah--best cherry pie my mother has ever had :) We also really enjoyed the Granary in Beulah -- lots of local foods/wines to purchase as well as a flea market we didn't have nearly enough to time to get through--if you are lucky the shop across the way may even be open and offer you a peek at some vintage Chris Craft boats. We had a fun evening at the Cherry Bowl Drive-In -- they will even announce your presence before the movie starts if you want and the cars will honk in appreciation :) We were directed to a great Rock Shop (closer to Honor, but with a Beulah address) and were able to purchase a lovely Petoskey stone -- the state rock, I believe and very cool. Our boys enjoyed plenty of time at all the nearby beaches -- Crystal Lake, Frankfort, Point Betsie (if you want Lake rocks, bring your bucket -- they are plentiful here),& Glen Haven. Our most fun (and long) daytrip was to Mears - where we were able to go on Mac's Dune Buggy rides of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes -- it was about 2 hours from the cottage, but in our opinion it is NOT to be MISSED !! Beautiful views and such a fun ride (ask for Weasie !!) ! There are plenty of yummy ice cream shops -- Scoops downtown has hand-scooped Moomers ice cream (we recommend the almond delight or Very Cherry), or there is the Cremee stand in front of Glen's supermarket -- lemon custard ! The neighbors were friendly and helpful and Carolyn was extremely easy to work with -- she was very accessible before and during our stay. We hope to visit Bates Cottage again next year. Our boys are already working on their "to-do" lists !!

I have known the owner and family of this property since my teenage years in the 60's. I have never rented the cottage but I have been a frequent guest over the years. I would best describe the place as a classic "up north" lake cottage with modern amenities and beautifully landscaped grounds. The owner accurately describes (and photographs) the property inside and out.

Crystal Lake Cottage

The listing accurately describes the property on Crystal Lake but until actually staying there, the full beauty and peaceful surroundings can only be imagined! I had the wonderful privilege of spending several days in this cottage and found it to be so clean and comfortable, close to nearby attractions and many places to dine were within a few minutes drive. I was in awe of the beautiful gardens on the property and felt the love and care it had been given over many, many years by the owner. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a summer stay, and would very much like to return again.
