Skiing & Cat-Skiing:
Only ten minutes drive from Humber Valley Resort, Marble Mountain offers a vertical drop of 519m (1,700 feet) and the best skiing east of the Canadian Rockies according to many knowledgeable skiers. With over 175 acres of skiable terrain and 35 groomed trails of varying degrees of difficulty from Beginner to Expert, including a Terrain Park, half-pipe and seven mogul runs, Marble Mountain caters for all levels of skier and snowboarder. The fact that it is still relatively unknown ensures maximum time on the slopes rather than waiting in lift queues.
For the more adventurous skier, cat skiing is an off piste experience like no other. A heated snow CAT will lift you 670 metres (2,200 vertical feet) to the top of the spectacular Blomidon Mountains where you can access over 30 km of the most outrageous skiing and snowboarding in eastern North America combined with spectacular views of the ocean below!
Golf:
Humber Valley Resort’s River Course, voted “Canada’s Best New Course 2007” by ScoreGolf Magazine and “Best New International Course in 2007” by Golf Magazine, is an 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course measuring 7,199 yards. Several holes are played alongside the tranquil Humber River or the shores of Deer Lake and a number of natural ponds and streams meander through the course. Breathtaking views can be enjoyed from most of holes culminating in the 18th, where the backdrop rises to an elevation of 400 feet. This is the spectacular setting for the Eagle’s Perch Clubhouse comprising golf reception, changing facilities, pros shop, bars and a banquet room which enjoys stunning views of the panoramic scenery.
Gros Morne National Park:
Western Newfoundland is a place with thousands of miles of coastline, endless forest and ancient mountains. The region extends from Port aux Basques to the top of the Great Northern Peninsula. Gros Morne National Park , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers more than 65 kilometres of scenic mountain hiking. Enjoy leisurely strolls or challenging treks through rock formations that came from the centre of the earth.Climb Gros Morne itself and view the spectacular landscape of mountains and fjords carved by glaciers and formed by tectonic upheaval.
Western Brook Pond is the largest lake (16 km long) in Gros Morne National Park and it provides a dramatic setting for a boat tour. You will be able to see the spectacular, glacier-carved, land-locked fjord with its waterfalls cascading from 2000 feet above that often turn to mist before reaching the pond, its billion year-old cliffs as well as frequent wildlife sightings.
