About David Wallace

DAVID WALLACE: David is an award winning television director. He is an avid world traveler who found St. Lucia to be the best of all islands. “I like to sample the hot springs and waterfalls that I find around the island' says David. 'I keep discovering new places all the time.” David and Wanda have climbed both Pitons and earned their scuba licenses in St. Lucia. “The flora and fauna are unforgettable.' 'It truly is Paradise.”

*****

WANDA PRUSKA-WALLACE:

“I love St. Lucia because of its abundant rain forest, beautiful shore line and laid back lifestyle.” Wanda practices and teaches Tai Chi and Eagle Claw Kung Fu. “Health and food (and David) are my passions.” explains Wanda. “Our fruit, veggies and fish are always fresh. It is a pleasure to cook and create mouth watering dishes with local ingredients.”

David Wallace purchased this cottage in 2000

Why David Wallace chose Marigot Bay

We choose St Lucia because it is the most beautiful island in the southern Caribbean. St Lucia has a large Rainforest, lots of beaches and wonderful warm people. It a rare country where you can relax and feel safe & secure everywhere. Stress is low and the food is great. So many restaurants!

What makes this cottage unique

Nature’s Paradise is about our spectacular views, lush gardens and 30ft, waterfall fed, swimming pool on the side of a cliff.

Our Tropical Breakfast (Mon - Fri) begins at eight and lasts until you have finished dining on our fresh breads & strong coffee. Fresh fruit is always available. The seasons dictate which fruits are on the table. Dining is in the Main House.

Did we mention our many Eco-Tours around the island?

Guestbook comments from the owner

The location high above Marigot Bay surrounded by nature and Wanda and David's hospitality is truly breath taking. Our cottage was comfortable and well equipped. For a couple living in the heart of the city, the sounds and silence of the tropics are absolutely delightful as is the lush tropical growth. We enjoyed the suggested restaurants particularly brunch on the porch of a colonial plantation house. Our trip to Soufriere with David was wonderful as was the dip in the remote warm springs. We also rented a 4 wheel drive vehicle to explore the island. We learned much about the tropical growth and flowers on this trip as well as life and culture of the island. Wanda's island breakfast's are perfect and the bananas from their own trees a particular treat. David's recommendations are always on target and the people of St. Lucia welcoming and helpful. Yes, Nature's Paradise is a unique adventure and you would be fortunate to share it.

Two Weeks in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from two weeks in paradise on the island of St. Lucia. Our vacation there was one of the best we ever had! It was wonderful to escape from a Canadian winter to temperatures ranging in the high 20’s (in Fahrenheit that would be in the 80’s). What a picturesque place St. Lucia is! We come from the landlocked prairies and so we were in awe of the scenery: mountains, the jungle greenery and the Caribbean.

We had read glowing reviews of David and Wanda Wallace’s Nature’s Paradise. We were not disappointed! Nature’s Paradise is situated up a mountain just outside Marigot Bay, possibly the most beautiful place in St. Lucia. We stayed in the Avocado cottage. When we were at ”home”, we spent most of our time on the wraparound porch, overlooking the sea and Marigot Bay. Imagine waking up every morning to that view.

The cottage has a kitchen, great for weekend breakfasts and for some eat in meals.

The Wallaces provide a great breakfast from Monday to Friday. We were served tropical fruits, including juice made from the lime trees that grow on the property. There are also cheeses, local baguettes, Wanda’s amazing banana bread and muffins along with some of the best coffee we have ever had. It’s over breakfast that we had the opportunity to ask David and Wanda about the island and share with the other guests (a maximum of eight guests in the two cottages and two suites in the main house) various places and restaurants that they had visited. It was so interesting to meet couples from neighbouring provinces as well as from Oregon, Boston, and Britain.

One couple mentioned they wanted to rent a catamaran for the day. We decided to split the cost and had a wonderful day seeing the island from the sea. We stopped at Sugar Beach for about an hour and later on for some snorkeling. We raved about this trip so much that when another couple arrived they, too, wanted to take a cruise. They opted for a half- day excursion and we, along with another couple, shared the cost. We would not have considered going on a cruise had it not been suggested over breakfast. David was able to make the bookings for us.

David took us on an Eco Adventure, which we highly recommend. We visited a botanical garden and David, so knowledgeable about the vegetation, was an excellent guide. We went to a hot springs and spent some time in the pools there. The day ended with a visit to a volcano.

Fantastic Advenure!

  • 5 of 5

Nature's Paradise was a wonderful bed and breakfast. The listing online for Nature's Paradise was very accurate in what to expect upon arrival; we stayed in the Avocado Cottage. It had a large single room, large bathroom with walk in shower and small stocked kitchen. The porch was over sized with two reclining outdoor chairs and a small sitting table. The grounds were gorgeous and there's a lovely chilly pool with a great deck and phenomenal view. The hosts David and Wanda were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and there's a slew of great restaurants all along the bay. Check out: Doolittles, Chateau Mygo, Rainforest Hideaway, and Juliettas. For excursions visit Pigeon National Park, Rainforest Zip line Excursions, and charter a boat from Bateau Mygo (worth every cent!). Don't pass up David's Soufriere trip, either, lots of golden moments including a restaurant with the island's best view! Rent a car for mobility and grab some bug spray and you'll be all set! Wonderful time, five stars across the board.

Romantic Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We chose Nature's Paradise as we wanted somewhere romantic to celebrate our anniversary and it certainly lived up to that, being perched above the Carribean with beautiful views, exotic wildlife but still accessible to the town of Marigot Bay. Our hosts, David and Wanda were marvelous and looked after us really well, showing us round the island and genuinely interested in us having a great time. We had great views from the veranda and the swimming pool. Breakfast was always a treat for me with different varieties of local fruit and great conversation. We had a wonderful time and would recommend it as a location, especially for those seeking a romantic place to get away to.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Nature's Paradise is a wonderful way to get away. Dave and Wanda are the perfect hosts --knowledgable, engaging, caring, and respect your privacy! Nature's Paradise is for people that truly do not want to be in a busy area - Marigot Bay is beautiful and really gives your a taste of the local flavor. Dave took us on a tour of the Peton's, mineral baths, and a volcano. We felt after just one week, we understood the island. Everyday we did something different -- beach, sailing, relaxing at the pool. Their home is lovely, high in the hills with incredible views. You do need to rent a car -- you will be driving everywhere. Wanda has landscaped the property beautifully, you truly feel that you are in your own little world. Marigot Bay is not commerialized, we loved this as it forces you to engage with the local people and food. The people of St. Lucia are very friendly, I have been to many Caribbean islands, St. Lucia by far is the friendliest and safest. It is perfect for couples that want a lot of privacy.

Paradise Found

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I spent three weeks in March 2014 at Nature's Paradise with Dave and Wanda. It was obvious from the way that they had taken a ridge top in St. Lucia and turned it into a beautiful garden that they really care about St. Lucia and their home. That caring carries over to how they treat their guests. They were always ready to help us find what we wanted to get the most out of our sojourn. We got up really early to see parrots with a delightful guide, Charmaine, we walked rain forests, we climbed Gros Piton and saw it from the sea in a unihull. We were directed to tasty food both local flavour (Julietta's, La Monique, JJ's) and various fusions (Pink Plantation, Fox Grove, DJ's, Orlando's, Chateau Mygo, Rainforest Hideaway, Le Chocolat) in Marigot Bay and around the island. We walked and hiked and swam and snorkled and soaked in the glorious sun of St. Lucia while in one of the most beautiful places on earth. We were taken to favourite places of Dave and Wanda. We met some delightful new friends. Go now to catch St. Lucia as a traditional Caribbean island. Stay with Dave and Wanda to have it feel like home.

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

If you are a bit of a do-it-yourself adventure seeker on your vacations and like to take advantage of much that a new place has to offer in terms of sea, sun, food, hiking, and more without a lot of excessive fuss, then Nature’s Paradise is the ideal place from which to explore St. Lucia. My husband and I stayed in the Ginger Room, which is attached to the main house, from 12/22/13 – 12/31/13. You don’t hear much about the Ginger Room as it is not really on the website and is overshadowed by the fabulous cottages, but it is a great alternative if the cottages are unavailable. The room is spacious with a small refrigerator and shelves off the closet that served as a great place for us to keep snacks and drinks. The bathroom has a lovely glass block shower and lots of space to store all your toiletries. The room has a very comfortable bed with a small sofa for lounging. There are windows on two walls and a great overhead fan providing plenty of natural air conditioning. The tree frogs at night are amazing! But, the best part is the view through the main sliding glass doors that overlooks the beautiful tropical foliage that Wanda has planted on the property and the Caribbean ocean beyond. Despite being attached to the main house, we always felt very private and secluded when in our room and also enjoyed being able to use the main verandah as our quasi-personal happy hour location without bothering others who were staying there.

David is instrumental in helping orient you to your location on St. Lucia. He goes over the map and is always happy to give you directions to places, make suggestions for activities, etc. He will also make reservations for you and help in any way possible. His connections within the community always managed to get us a great table or the best guide, etc. St. Lucia is not the easiest place to navigate as there are virtually no road signs. It was very helpful to have someone in the know to tell us how to get places but if you get lost, like we did, just ask the locals as you are driving. They will gladly help you get where you are going. David’s tour of Soufriere was a highlight and I encourage everyone to take this if you can. The secret mineral springs that David has found alone is worth it! Beautiful and secluded. My husband and I are very honored to have been able to get to know both of them as they are not just great hosts, but special people.

Car: recommended

Marigot Bay has a terrific beach. Our Main House and Cottages are set high up on a hill for great views, so walking down to the beach is about 15 minutes, walking back up takes longer (a jeep is recommended). The famous La Bas beach is on the north side of the bay and there are no cars or roads. You access La Bas Beach by Captain Bravo’s ferry, which runs 24/7. The boat ride is about two minutes and is fun. There are four good restaurants and one great restaurant on the bay. The nearest town is Castries, which is the capital of St. Lucia. It is about 30 minutes by car.

There is often live music at the restaurants around Marigot Bay. Anse La Raye, the next town, has a great block party called Seafood-Friday. Anse La Raye is a fishing village that has retained its character.

Other Activities: • Great Snorkeling & Scuba • Hike the Rain Forest • Horseback Riding in the sea.
