The apartment itself is spacious with two closets and plenty of room for all your things. The layout is similar to what you would find in a hotel suite with a large main area, full kitchen with everything you need to prepare basic meals, and you're steps away from a lush garden with umbrella table and outdoor gas grill.

My son and I live in the front house and I thought it would be fun to leave the two units in back available for friends and family to visit from out of town and also double as a vacation rentals. I work in entertainment cutting commercials for television shows and movies and my son goes to preschool in the neighborhood and is very excited about turning five. I've lived in the neighborhood for six years and when this property went up for sale I had to get it because I love the neighborhood and the oranges are the best I've ever had. There are also a number of fig trees, hot peppers, pomegranates, lemons, and flowers.
I grew up in LA and before I became an editor I drove a cab for a while so needless to say I know the city quite well and can provide suggestions of fun things to do and places to go.
Again the neighborhood is the big draw. It's walking distance to so many great places and although some areas in Hollywood can be somewhat gritty and urban, our corner is very friendly and the neighbors are great. Fountain Ave can get pretty busy at times but somehow our corner maintains an authentic, eccentric, almost small town vibe. When my brother and I were building the gate we decided to leave the diamonds open to talk with the neighbors. Across the street is a community garden and there is a club of elementary school kids who trade vegetables with me for fruit. It's a lot of fun.
The history of the property is interesting as well. I am only the third owner since 1915 when the main house was built. It was one of the first in the neighborhood. A Greek family bought it in the 70s and the father was the one who established the community garden across the street. Apparently he used to go across the street and gather ingredients while he was cooking. Neighbors come by and tell stories about him - I guess he was a bit of a character.
When I was looking at it it just felt like the kind of place I'd want my son to grow up and invite my friends and family to come over and enjoy.
First of all the great value is a unique benefit. One of the main drawbacks for visiting Hollywood for my friends and family coming from out of town was staying in hotels. For the same layout at the W hotel nearby they are currently charging 399/night - yikes! Of course the W is very fancy and corporate and whatnot and if you enjoy that sort of thing you should definitely call them and not book this vacation rental. However if you are looking for a more authentic neighborhood experience with all the benefits of the same great, fun, location - then this rental would be an excellent value.
This rental is also a great place to travel with your pet. We like animals on June st. I have two cats and dog. Delongpre Park is one block away and everyone brings their dogs in the morning. A restaurant named Cat and Fiddle is walking distance and dog friendly - they provide water bowls and snacks.
