The Three Valleys - Skiing: There are several resorts that make up the Three Valleys. The main ones are Courcheval, Meribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens, with each of the Three Valley resorts being different.
Kilometres of piste: 600
Number of ski lifts : 200
Number of skiers transported hourly : 260,000
Number of snow cannons : 1,500
Hectares of groomed runs : 2,500
Number of ski patrollers : 320
Piste bashers : 70
Ski instructors : 1,500
Cross-country ski tracks : 130 km
Les Menuires - Skiing: Les Menuires offers 160 kilometres of pistes and has been graded by 'Where to Ski and Snowboard 2007' as follows:
4/5 for snow
5/5 for extent
4/5 for experts
5/5 for intermediates
3/5 for beginners
With many wide blues, off piste, stunning views, challenging blacks, and only two drag lifts in the whole resort, Les Menuires caters for every skier and snowboarder. Les Menuires is just two lifts from Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe, guaranteeing you snow from before Christmas until after Easter. As well as Les Menuires and Val Thorens, you can ski to Meribel and Courchevel with the Three Valleys lift pass which gives you access to 600 kilometres of piste!
We will also be delighted to accompany you on the piste for two days of your holiday to ensure you get the most out of the resort. We can show you the best runs and restaurants, how to avoid the queues and generally save you from having to read a piste map so that you can relax and enjoy the stunning views
Les Menuires - Resort Information: Les Menuires is the least well-known, most French and most accessible resort in the Three Valleys. From the skier's point of view, this translates into mostly uncrowded pistes and short queues at the chairlifts. You can also ski the 'Itinéraires du Soleil' (which roughly translated means 'the sunshine path'), all day long on south and west-facing slopes to maximise your sun-tan!
Another good point for many is the fact that Les Menuires is such nice family resort - definitely lacking in the fur-coated snobs which frequent some of the other resorts nearby. It has a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops, a well-equipped sports centre (with indoor swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi, hammam, sauna and squash court), outdoor swimming pool, cinema, night clubs and an ice skating rink.
Previous Guests Comments:
'Food was very good and obviously a lot of thought and care given to its selection, presentation and cooking. Service was excellent, considerate and friendly. Made us feel very welcome and comfortable.' (David Banks - Jan 2008)
'Top class chalet - and a proper cooked breakfast is a big plus. Rhian and Garrett were brilliant hosts! Friendly, good-humoured, nothing too much trouble, good interaction with the guests (very important). Ski hosting is a useful extra and would be appreciated by the more advanced skiers.' (Rob Litler - Mar 2008)
'We are still talking about how wonderful our stay was - both families agree it was the best ski holiday ever and that is completely down to how you looked after us. We would love to stay with you again. I really admire the lifestyle choice you have made and the energy and determination you are putting into it!' (Dave Yip - Feb 2011)
'We all just wanted to say a quick but massive thank you for the lovely time we had at Sara Marie! Jess and Jules were fantastic hosts and the food throughout the week was superb (Jess deserves a lot of credit for this)!! We were most impressed by the lengths that they went to in order to accommodate for Nat's dairy allergy and the variety of food provided! We will certainly be recommending the chalet to friends and family in the future!! THANK YOU!! James, Laura, Matt, Amy, Nilu, Nat and Joe' (James Thysse - March 2011)
“Great time had by all – food and hospitality first class, plenty of wine and conversation – duck was the best but others came close. Hope the rest of the season goes well!” (Mike Thomas - Jan 2012)

About Garrett Barker
Rhian went to Bordeaux International School between the ages of 16 and 19 and fell in love with France then, while I'm a keen skier. We'd wanted to move to France since 2005, but had no idea how we could earn a living - Rhian was a printing company line manager and I was a commercial manager in a defence company, and neither of us wanted to do that kind of work in France. Then, in March 2007, I visited the Portes du Soleil ski area (near Geneva) on holiday and realised that the small tour operator I was staying with didn't actually own the chalet they used – they rented it. Suddenly the idea of having our own small tour operator business in the ski industry became a possibility (and now a reality!)

Why Garrett Barker chose Le Bettaix
Quite simply, if you like to ski, our chalet is located in the best skiing area in the world. It has over 600km of marked piste and thousands of hectares of off-piste.
Guestbook comments from the owner
This chalet (Sara Marie) was our first family skiing holiday and we have had a fantastic time. The chalet is really lovely and Jess and Jono were the best hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and the food and hospitality were amazing. Thanks to Garrett for the transport every morning and to Rhian and Garrett and friends for keeping us company at dinner. We would love to come back and will definitely recommend chalet Sara Marie and Silver Lining Chalets to our friends and family.
