TRANQUIL, UPDATED LAKEFRONT COTTAGE NEAR ACADIA

Sullivan Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Enjoy all that Downeast Maine has to offer but avoid the Bar Harbor crowds with this charming cottage situated on over 600 feet of prime Flanders Pond waterfront and 55 acres.

The cottage has been lovingly remodeled and includes a queen size bed, a full bath with shower, washer/dryer, pull-out sofa, comfortable reading chairs, a large dining table indoors and another dining area on the screened porch. Spacious enough for a family of 4 but also cozy and romantic for couples.

Flanders Pond is a delightful, quiet lake with beautiful views of near by Schoodic Mountain; the loons are mesmerizing and the water is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking or fishing. (2 kayaks and a canoe provided.) You'll feel a million miles from anywhere -- yet you're only a short drive to Winter Harbor, Ellsworth, and other neighboring towns for groceries, supplies, restaurants, lobster, ice cream and all of the wonderful activities that the area offers. (Many people don't realize that Winter Harbor is also home to a stunning piece of Acadia National Park -- always uncrowded, with a few lovely hikes, a nice biking loop, and some of our favorite views in Maine.) Bar Harbor is a scenic, easy 40-minute drive from the cottage.

This little slice of heaven has been in the family for three generations and we are excited to share it with you. Please note: there is another cottage on the property, used exclusively by the owners, which would be vacant during your stay.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I just wanted to let you know we all had a wonderful time! Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us. It was obvious that you cared about the cabin. Everything looked brand new. We did our first real hiking with the kids. They climbed both Cadillac and Penobscot in Acadia and we also did Schoodic. I wish we had discovered Donnell Pond earlier in the week. It was gorgeous and the kids loved it. Every year we plan our trip to Maine and pick a new place to explore. For the first time I think we will be hard pressed to pick a new spot!

tranquil location

This cabin is perfect for those seeking a quiet getaway. My wife and I were extremely pleased with the quiet location as well as the care given to upkeep of the cabin. The lake is quiet, there were a couple of boaters on the lake, but not nearly as many as you see on other lakes. This location is perfect for kayakers. The caretaker does a great job maintaining the cabin and the grounds. The cabin is clean, well cared for and the grounds are lovely. This cabin is a great jumping off point for day trips to Acadia National Park and other local hikes. We are extremely happy with our week in Sullivan.

A perfect cottage in a perfect spot

  • 5 of 5
The cottage is immaculate. Looks new and is nicely decorated. Large screened porch for open airflow throughout. More like a home than a vacation rental, and is well equipped. Very peaceful place. Kayaks and canoe is in excellent condition and the lake (pond) is good size. The location is away from the masses and there are plenty of places of interest to visit nearby. The Schoodic Peninsula is a special part or Acadia and about a 20 minute drive. Can't say enough about this part of Maine and this cottage.

My husband & I were looking for a break from the demands of our jobs and the rat race of our daily lives, and we found it on Flanders Pond. We hated to leave there. The cottage was perfect with everything we needed (including the lobster pot). We enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch at night or working on a jigsaw puzzle and it was nice not having a TV blaring. We went whale watching one day, which was a fun experience and checked out Acadia around the Bar Harbor area. Then another day we went to Schoodic Peninsula and we actually liked that section of Acadia over there much better since our goal was to "get away from it all".
The one thing my husband pointed out that was missing, which would have been nice, was a hammock. That would have been the cherry on top.

We recently stayed for a week at the cottage. It was charming and well set up. The lake was quiet and private. We saw the resident eagles daily. We paddled on this lake and 2 others. We hiked local mountains and enjoyed the local harbors. We stopped by for fresh produce daily at the nearby organic farm. There is still so much more to do, we would love to come again.

The perfect getaway...The pefect cottage...

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I recently returned from our vacation on Flanders Pond at the lovely cottage. Everything about this was perfect. The cottage is so nice, simple, well-appointed and the pond is just lovely...swimming, campfires, kayaking and just the beauty of Maine. The owners are also so nice, as we had the pleasure of meeting them, as they were ending their stay at the cottage. Our stay, summed up...early morning coffee lakeside, swimming, dinner and wine in the perfect screened porch. day trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia, Winter Harbor, Schoodic Peninsula and exploring the simplicity of Down East Maine. The organic farm stand is incredible, we shopped daily for fresh vegetables, flowers and went home with the best cucumber relish. For dining, many places -- simple and fancy. We loved the Crocker House and Bunker's Wharf Restaurant in Bunker's Harbor -- we sat outside by the ocean sipping Dark and Stormy drinks on a chilly day. Another perfect spot is Grindstone Beach --we went several times during our stay. All we can say, is at least spend half of your time at the cottage just relaxing, reading, swimming, cooking and a campfire every night is the best. You will love the cottage and we will surely be back next year. Also...we had a few rainy days and highly recommend going to the wineries in the area, it was so much fun, many unique blueberry wines and met so many nice people. We miss you Flanders Pond!

Peaceful Lakeside Cottage

  • 5 of 5
If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, look no further. This cottage is perfectly appointed with all necessary modern amenities. We had our three young (ages 6, 4 and 1) children with us and they all had a fantastic time enjoying the outdoors as well as being in the cozy cottage. Flanders Pond is pristine and secluded and is great for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, birdwatching, frog catching, paddle boarding, stone skipping and fishing. A close drive to both Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor, there are lots of fun excursions at your fingertips - like whale watching, visiting/hiking Acadia, and eating lobsters. We are already looking forward to our visit in 2013.
