Welcome to French Road Farmhouse, a modern renovated farmhouse located on 15 pristine acres in the heart of the beautiful Leelanau peninsula, halfway between Cedar and Lake Leelanau. This 100 year old farmhouse has been completely transformed and offers an open floor plan with a cathedral ceiling and lofted second floor, a stylish cement counter top with all new stainless steel appliances and a large bathroom with a walk in rain shower as well as an all new claw foot tub and an outdoor tub for moon light soaks. The farmhouse is filled with light and has a very clean modern look. It is furnished with both new and vintage pieces, is decorated with beautiful textiles, hand blown glass light fixtures, original photographs, an artist made mosaic and stained glass window, and many pieces of hand thrown pottery. You can relax on the wrap around deck and gaze at the fields and big open sky or walk the property, exploring the barns and out buildings and enjoying nature, particularly all the trees and plants and our ongoing garden projects.
Those seeking active days can choose from a variety of offerings nearby including miles of hiking trails, beaches, and water activities. Explore the wonders of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Take advantage of all of the outdoor activities nearby including boating, canoeing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, hiking, golfing, biking and much more. Learn about and visit our farmer’s markets and enjoy wine tasting and tours at local vineyards. For those interested in the arts, there are many summer art fairs and concerts and events at the famed Interlocken Center for the Arts. However you spend your days, it is always a joy to come back to a comfortable, nurturing environment, cook fresh food bought from nearby farmers’ markets and take in the beauty of the sunset and the drama of the night sky or enjoy the stereo, flat screen TV and Apple TV. Very comfortable beds await with all cotton sheets, down pillows, and a variety of textiles and comforters. Choose from 1 king and 2 queen beds inside the farmhouse. For those who want to be closer to nature and still comfortable, we have 2 single beds inside the screened porch. For an additional fee, other options include a separate artist's studio with 2 full sized platform beds and a platform tent with a king size bed situated on a private site on the property.

My husband and I were able to launch our vision of living closer to nature with the purchase of this land in 2010. We chose this area in the Leelanau peninsula for its powerful sense of place, its uncluttered vistas, open skies, access to miles of lake shore and its distance from the hurried and crowded world. The initial phase of our ongoing project was to renovate the farmhouse, bringing together our interests in design, art, craft, and space. We wanted to create a home that offers simplicity, comfort and a connection to the land.
With this phase of our project complete, we are happy to offer our home to others as we continue to pursue additional projects on our land. Currently, a fully furnished platform tent sits in a secluded part of the property with a view of the open pasture. In time we will be erecting two more tents that will make the property ideal for family gatherings and retreats. We will also be establishing gardens and renovating the barn and other out buildings.
We are grateful for the opportunity to follow our dreams of creating an environment for inspiration and renewal.

If you like misty fields in the morning and being surrounded with comforting linens, pottery made on site, interesting antiques and collectibles, all to the accompaniment of birdsong, you will love the French Road Farmhouse. The decor suits the setting perfectly making for a very peaceful base of operations for sightseeing to Sleeping Bear Dunes or visiting local small towns and harbor villages. The Leelenau peninsula is dotted with fields of wheat, crops, orchards and pretty farmsteads so even the getting-there is relaxing.
