I am a retired documentary film writer who likes to travel. There is a separate, private guesthouse on the property where I stay when in town.
The Owner purchased this house in 1985
The geographical beauty of this home near the beach combined with easy freeway and beach city access makes it extremely appealing for exploring the Los Angeles area and retreating back into a peaceful home with a view of the Pacific ocean. It's possible to jump in the car and be anywhere in L.A. or to grab a bike and ride the coast or recline with a book and an ocean view.
There are local coffee shops and a fabulous Italian restaurant within walking distance as well as local amenities. There are shopping centers in nearby Marina del Rey, Manhattan Beach and Culver City with theatres, shopping and trendy restaurants. There is a marshland protected area within walking distance that offers nature tours and a restored wetlands with footpaths nearby. There are free summer concerts a bike ride away in Playa Vista and Marina del Rey with kayak, bike and boat rentals.
Beautiful French Provincial home with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Walking distance to the beach. A spectacular view from the roof top deck and Pam makes all feel welcome.
Perfect for couples with older children. Parking on street was usually out front and no hassle ( yes... even in LA you can find easy parking ).
Transaction was smooth and communications were consistent and accurate.
Had I read any of the reviews of this listing prior to renting it, I would have said "no, no, no," these reviews are ALL sooo positive. That's just not possible. There had to be a few negatives to this property. Well, after spending 2 MONTHS this summer at the Casa by the Sea, all of the reviews were absolutely accurate and positive. Mine included. There really is not much I can add to perfection. So I'll just nit pick a little. Ummm, well, let's see. There could have been a few lounge chairs on the magnifient deck. I'm told those are forthcoming in the very near future. There could have been a few more premium channels on the TV, but hey, I didn't use it that much to begin with. And the owner would have been more than accomodating in adding more, however I declined. There was plenty to choose from. And besides, this was a vacation. What did I need with hundreds of channels? So it was a blessing actually. The charming rear patio was a delight to open the doors and look onto. I felt I could have been in Spain or very early California. For me, the washer and dryer on property was a real plus. The comfortable "reading" room with white water ocean views completed a lazy afternoon of reading and yes, napping. The house is very sound proofed, however, those who have not been around that kind of airplane noise might be a little disrupted from time to time. For me, I forgot about them after the first few days. Never did I lose a moments' sleep because of them. The kitchen was so fully furnished with all that was necessary to cook any kind of meal. And, bonus, a french press to make coffee, which was so enjoyable. I truly felt like I was in another time and place, and the pace began to slow as the days went by. Total relaxation found me finally and my mental and physical well being was very taken care of by these wonderful accomodations, and the owner. This lady was so cheerful upon every encounter, one could not help but feel uplifted and joyful in her presence. So, to wrap it up, if you have the opportunity to take advantage of this excellent offering, do not hesitate. When my daughter, who lives in the area, saw the house for the first time, she told me, Mom, you are really going to like this house. She was right. I loved it. Thank you.
Rented this awesome home for the month of Aug 2012-First time I ever rented a home that the pictures on the internet looked exactly as the house- maybe thats one of the reasons we settled in quickly and we were so comfortable as if we lived in that house for years. The view of the ocean from the living room and the little reading room are breathtaking!! We found ourselves just sitting there for long periods of time
(when we were not on the beach which is only a 2 block walk from this beautiful home) just looking at the beautiful ocean. There is nothing we did not enjoy about this house- the beautiful court year the flat
roof top which was another awesome place to sit and view the ocean- This home offered so much to not only us but also our kids who visited us often those who live in the area and those who flew in from other areas of the country, they were so comfy abd cozy in the adobable guest room with the french doors leading out to the beautiful landscapped court yard. This was a vacation that we will remember for so many years to come it was just so perfect. We had so much fun- the area has so much to offer as well. Now let me say something about Pam- I have saved the best for last! Pam is the owner of this marelous home and she is the most amazing person! She is so thoughtful- so gracious- she was so respectful of our privacy always trying to not be in our of our way and she never was!-and in turn we reciprocated- so considerate always trying to make our stay even more comfortable than it was- always asking it there anything else she can do to make our stay more pleasant- This was just a totally win win situation. We hope to be back to this paradise in California - the home - the area- the weather- the people- everyone is so happy I think thats what the sun does knowing it is going to be sunny and warm everyday why wouldn't you be happy and I told my husband many times- even the dogs are happier here!! Oh did I forget to mention the beautiful sunsets you get to see everynight from the living room and reading room and the roof and if you want to sit on the beach instead its just PARADISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can go on an on and I guess I have!! Just a wonderful home to live in if you have the opporturnity to visit the area and trust me you will miss it when you leave and get back to your reality!
We rented the Hacienda by the Sea for four nights while in the area for a wedding. We were a party of four; two adults and two teens. We've rented many properties on VRBO all over the world, from a condo in Hawaii, to a beach house in the Bahamas, to an apartment in Athens, and this rental was one of our very favorites.
Pam has thought of absolutely everything. Instead of the Ikea furniture and absolutely bare bones essentials of many rental properties, this lovely house is fully equipped and charmingly furnished. It's really my dream house by the beach. The rooms are large and sunny, it has a glorious roof top deck, and there's plenty of room to move around and not be on top of one another.
It's an easy walk down to the beach or drive to any LA area attraction.
Pam please call me if you ever want to sell this absolutely lovely property! I can dream, can't I?
Highly recommend without any hesitation. I would go back in an instant.
What a wonderful place to stay! Listing description was very accurate, owner was very helpful, property was clean and well maintained.
We felt like we were local residents for a weekend, and would do it again!
We stayed in this house and loved it for many reasons. We really enjoy its proximity to the beach. You can wake up and smell the ocean air or have a morning cup of coffee while you view the blue Pacific from the picture window in the living room or the cozy reading room off the kitchen. If you like the outside air, you can enjoy a180-degree view from the deck atop of the house. Even better, you can walk or ride your bike to the beachside pathway located 5 minutes from the front door.
This home is sweetly decorated with a European flair and has two bedrooms and one bathroom. It comfortably sleeps 4 people. Light and bright, it is loaded with charm with cathedral high ceilings in the living room and hardwood floors throughout.
The property is located close to Marina Del Rey to the north and Manhattan Beach to the south and is convenient for shopping and movie theaters. There is an abundance and variety of restaurants to choose from. There is even a Costco close by. There is easy freeway access for day trips to Disneyland, Catalina Island or other various Los Angeles tourist destinations. Los Angeles International Airport. (LAX) is minutes away.
When we need a getaway or break from the insanity of the world, this charming Spanish beach house, which is quietly tucked away in a wonderful Playa Del Rey neighborhood, is just the place for our future stays in Los Angeles.
