Overview

Tarn Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Le Muret is a charmingly restored stone farmhouse with pool. Sleeps 10. Set in two acre grounds, it is totally secluded and has panoramic views over rolling countryside. Perfect location for walking and visiting medieval bastide towns. Recently restored in traditional French style. Spacious oak-beamed rooms.

3 Double bedrooms. 2 large attic rooms, one with double bed and a single bed, other with 5 ft futon and single bed. 2 folding beds (kids only!) Cot. 2 bathrooms (one en-suite). Separate WC on ground floor.

Large well-equipped kitchen/dining room with range cooker and microwave. Hi-fi. Large living room with log burning stove. Digital satellite TV/radio, DVD + video. Further TV, DVD & video in attic. Games room with table-tennis Laundry room with washer, drier, freezer. Shaded terrace for outdoor eating. BBQ. Badminton/boules/rounders. Selection of DVDs, videotapes, CDs, board games, jigsaws and hundreds of books. Wifi

In the house you will find a file full of leaflets from the nearby chateaux, museums, open-air cinema... There is full information regarding pony-trekking, donkey hire, carriage rides, canoeing/kayaking, painting courses, hire of bicycles etc. We have also put together a summary of this information, with the necessary phone numbers, to make it easier for guests to plan their time. Should you wish to make any arrangements before you come out, perhaps to enquire about painting courses or long-distance pony-trekking, taxis or bicycle hire, please let us know in good time and we will forward this summary to you.

July and August is the season for village fêtes. Every local town and village of any size has one or more fêtes. Expect sideshows, feasting, music, dancing and fireworks, which can often be seen from the garden. This is also the season of brocante fairs. Local markets are in every sense a feast, and St Antonin (which featured in the film 'Charlotte Gray') with its very large and very popular Sunday market is only thirty minutes away. In early September Cordes holds the 'Fete de la Bonne Vie', which is a food-lover's dream!

The countryside around is perfect for walking. We are close to several long distance GR footpaths including the GR des Gorges du Viaur and the GR 36 Gorges de l'Aveyron, Najac et Cordes. From the house we very much enjoy strolling along the little lanes, enjoying the views of Najac and Cordes and across to the Aveyron Gorges to the west. There is very little traffic on the lanes and such local drivers as you do meet are quite likely to offer you a lift! We have several books of local walks and maps for visitors' use, and have made a note of a few of our favourite walks, some on footpaths, some following the lanes. For those who like river swimming there is an excellent spot at Lagarde-Viaur, about 20 minutes from the house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Fiona

We are now home and wanted to say a massive thank you for a wonderful holiday. Thank you for leaving the pool open for us, the weather was absolutely fantastic and we did spend many afternoons lazing there. Dennis swam the first week but not the second as overnight the temperatures did plummet. We were fascinated by your pool robot, much better than our pool man in Spain!

Your home there is gorgeous, we loved it so much. We did have UK TV so again thank you because we were able to watch Strictly and spent many a cosy evening in your lovely living room. I loved your kitchen and cooking on your range, I miss it already.

We did get out and about quite a bit, in fact we clocked up over 500 miles. There is so much to see there and the villages and countryside are amazing.

I had so many quiet moments just looking at the views surrounding your house, I used to walk my dogs to the gates each morning in my Pj,s and thought how lucky we were to be there.

.

We met Jacque your gardener and he has dug 85 holes for your trees , they will look fantastic. We really liked him.

Dennis is a very keen amateur photographer and has taken some lovely shots of Le Muret so I will send them onto to you.

Thank you so very much again, you have given us some wonderful memories to treasure.

Kind regards

Betty

Stunning view, lovely stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this lovely house for 10 days from the end of September. The weather was glorious and we had a very peaceful and relaxing time. The view was spectacular and we spent many hours just watching birds of prey soaring above us. Our labrador was in seventh heaven in the huge garden and as it was fully fenced, she couldn't wander off! The house had all you needed for a relaxing holiday - even insect screens. We had one minor problem which was sorted out very quickly by the local managers. Cordes sur Ciel was about a ten minute drive and was the nearest place to buy food etc. It is also a very lovely place to visit. We would recommend this house and would love to be back their ourselves - right now!

Very memorable holiday, gorgeous house and gardens

  • 5 of 5

Very impressive house in idyllic surroundings. The house is very comfortable and cosy, suited to couples as well as groups. It is very clean with quality furnishings and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is fabulous and extremely well equipped with nice mugs, glasses etc. The bed was extremely comfortable with high quality bedding. The pool area is beautiful and peaceful, the gardens are very well maintained and there are many sitting areas to take in the stunning views. Sunrise is such a picture. After a day out sightseeing it was just wonderful to return to ,There is plenty to see and do. Cordes Sur Ciel is very atmospheric with Saturday being the best day to visit, with the market on it is great to sit and people watch from a cafe. The countryside is absolutely gorgeous and the trip to the supermarket in Gaillac is stunning.

The owner was very helpful from the start and very approachable. This house is very much a home and not a regular rental and it definitely shows. We would highly recommend a stay here and we have very fond memories of our holiday. It is difficult to find anything negative to say because it was just perfect.

Le Muret, Summer 2014

  • 5 of 5

Le Muret was a charming property that provided us with a delightful holiday. The house and all its facilities were lovely and well provisioned with equipment in the kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious and airy, with very comfortable large beds. The property was very clean, we made use of the facility to have linen provided which was worthwhile. The housekeeper Caroline was efficient and helpful. The swimming pool was nicely positioned and a good size; it makes Le Muret an excellent property to book. Access to information about the house and availability on the owner's website is straightforward and comprehensive.

The house's position above the Cerou valley 8 km outside of Cordes provides glorious views across the beautiful rolling hills all around.

Trips out to the nearby towns of Albi & Gaillac are easy, as are excursions to further towns and villages. We visited Toulouse, Najac, Bruniquel and Penne; we also toured along the Aveyron Gorge which provided stunning views and scenery. The Sunday market at St Antonin Noble Val is well worth the drive. Further afield we travelled to Rocamadour and Grottes de Padirac, longer journeys but well worth it.

We had a super holiday at Le Muret, would not hesitate to recommend this property to family or friends and would certainly book again in the future ourselves.

Incredible stay in an Idyllic Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We were blown away by the beautiful location in which this idyllic farmhouse is situated. The house is incredibly well furnished and provided us with an ideal base from which to explore the stunning surrounding area, including the unique medieval Najac. Cordes Sur Ciel, a mere 10 minute drive away, has all the amenities that you could want, as well as being an incredibly striking hill top town. The house itself has fantastic features with a table tennis table, providing hours of fun, and a pool that provided much needed respite from the scorching weather, as well as a very well equipped kitchen and a very useful littel bbq. Even breaks in the weather, with the occasional torrential rain storm, provided us with much entertainment as we watched the storms cross the horizon with the natural fireworks display of lightning. The house provided us with exactly what we were looking for as we returned incredibly well rested and sorry not to have been able to stay any longer. We will definitely be back soon!

Fantastic home in a lovely countryside

  • 5 of 5

We had one of the best holidays at Le Muret. The house and grounds are stunning, peaceful and everything you need is there. We loved the fact that it felt like a home and not a rental place. The welcome pack was amazing and with 5 adolescents in the house, the pool and ping pong table were perfect assets. Great place to return to!

Our nearest town is Cordes-sur-Ciel (10 minutes) and we are 30 minutes from Najac and St Antonin-Noble-Val. These are fascinating medieval bastide towns, full of interest and activities. Albi, with its cathedral, Toulouse-Lautrec museum, restaurants, etc. is about 20 minutes away, and we are well placed for trips to many other bastide towns and the Gaillac vineyards. This is an area where villages tend to be ancient medieval settlements and pigeonniérs are found dotted about the fields.

Cordes has a variety of restaurants, several hotels, a wonderful patisserie, butchers, banks, ironmongers, toyshop, garages and an excellent newspaper and bookshop. English newspapers are generally on sale the day after publication. In the summer months there is also a variety of specialist food/wine shops and art and local craft shops. There is a very attractive and useful market on Saturday mornings. There are also several interesting museums and the renowned 'Jardin des Paradis' gardens.
