Photos and Description of the Haute-Vienne vacation cottage rental Well equiped Self catering gites with pool, tennis court ,garden & b-b-q.

La Bourdalaine is a small hamlet set in the heart of the Ambazac Hills about 15k north of Limoges. The hamlet is set in 7.5 acres of the most beautiful & romantic woodlands on the side a hill that goes down to a small river. In spring you can see all the the trout & salmon swimming upstream. There are 3 gites all of which are completely individual. Rose Cottage is set at bottom of the hill and benefits from having the river running by it. It is set in its own large garden and is ideal for that romantic getaway as well as being a nice family house. The Mill House is stunning and is set half way up the hill looking down over the river and woodland beyond. Vine Cottage is set at the top of the hill next to our family home. It is a beautifully quaint little cottage with a stunning decking area off the lounge overlooking the field and woods of Bourdalaine. If you are having bar-b-ques in the evenings it is a good time to spot the deer grazing. This is self-catering holiday rental heaven.

Ambazac is a small village about 15k north of Limoges. Limoges is the capital city of the Limousin area and is famous for its pottery & beautiful china. Limoges has a history dating back some 2000 years and there are many sites to see while you are here, the St Etiene cathedral being just one them. There are many bars and restaurants all over the city and hundreds of individual shops (no chains) that make it a joy to explore. After a busy days sight seeing and shopping in Limoges you will return to Ambazac & La Bourdaine. Ambazac is small village but has everything you need on a day to day basis. There are two very good supermarkets and several excellent bakers. There are a couple of bars and a really nice restaurant. Once back at Bourdaline you can totally relax and unwind. It is a truly stunning place set in seven and half acres of woodland with our own small lake. if things are quiet in the evening, it is not unusual to see the deer grazing in the field by pool.

Notes: Vine Cottage is an ideal place for your family holiday. The cottage, although not massive is big enough and very well laid out. The kitchen in particular is a good sized family kitchen. The real beauty of Vine Cottage is the decking outside. It is reached by french doors of the lounge and is an area that has to be seen to be truly appreciated. There is a large garden table and eight chairs, and a barbecue. It has a stunning view over the fields of Bourdalaine and the woods beyond. There is a large tent style canopy that covers the whole of the table which means even it rains a bit but is still warm you can sit out there. Most people use it morning noon and night. We call it the hidden gem of La Bourdalaine.

Walking & Mountain Biking: The Ambazac Hills are ideal for both walking and mountain biking, both of which you can do from the front door without ever stepping into a car. For those of you that just want a gentle stroll there are plenty of country walks through the woods and around Lake Jonas, but if you are a little bit more active you can take off into the hills for a good days hiking or mountain biking. We have 6 mountain bikes on site which we are more than happy to lend to you for a few days on your stay with us.

Horse Riding & Swimming: St. Pardoux A water sports heaven! Close to Saint Pardoux is the lake of the same name, which is one of the largest and best loved leisure lakes in the region. If you enjoy water sports there can be no better place than this… you can choose from sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, water-skiing and swimming! For the less energetic there are lovely safe beaches around the lake where you can enjoy the sunshine and unpolluted air, and for those who like to keep their sporting activities on dry land Muret. Muret is a large country club with a magnificent riding center, tennis squash , bar & restaurant. It is set in the most beautiful countryside and is an ideal place for a family day out. You can arrange for a horse riding lesson or for the more experienced book a full days guided trekking.

Fishing: The Limousin is an place for you if fishing is your thing. There are plenty of lakes close to us that are teeming with fish of all kinds. We also have a small lake at La Bourdalaine which people have fished with great success. You can but a daily or weekly permit for the surrounding lakes from some of the local shops in Ambazac, but if you want to fish in our lake, it is free.

Le Paradis terrestre a La Bourdalaine!

Anglofun Brighton
Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This is indeed paradis on earth - or at least the closest I have come to it in a holiday home. From contacting the owners the communications were excellent and their welcome first class. The gite had everything you could possibly want - well fitted kitchen with an abundance of dishes and cutlery. The terrace of Vine Cottage gives you spectacular views of the surroundings and an opportunity to eat out whenever since there is a cover which completely protects you if it is raining. The lounge even has a large t.v. for those addicts (like us) who kid themselves that they need to know what's going on in the rest of the world 24/7 - you don't of course as very quickly you become embraced in the world of La Bourdaline to the point of not going out every day to buy bread as normal french holidaying requires. There is all that you could possisbly need here for a restful holiday since there is a beautiful pool and tennis court, right next to one another which we made great use of. We were touched by the 'welcome pack' that awaited us in the kitchen which was not mentioned on the website. Also the cleanliness of the place was as good as any 5 star hotel!
We would definitely return to this property and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Owner's Response: Jion, I don't know what to say. Thank you so much for your lovely words and we are so happy that we helped to make your holiday so special. I have come to think of it as the magic of La Bourdalaine, because no matter whatever time of the day or night people arrive, and no matter how how far they have travelled, when they come through the gates it is like the world has been lifted their shoulders. After that it is so easy. All we have to do is order the sun and we've got it cracked. We have had such a fabulous summer and the week the four of you were here was one of the best. I am still in touch with your mum and I'm trying to persuade her to come over here for good so we swap recipes and learn french together. You really were four of the most wonderful people, and thank you for spending your holidays with us.

Really relaxing

Review Submitted: July 9, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Our family holiday was very relaxing. We were immediately put at ease by Louise and Andrew who own the properties and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The countryside is wonderful and the house itself was clean and had everythin we could have wanted. The pool is very clean and well maintained. We had a great time and hope to return in the future.

My friend Brenda & I had the best French holiday we've had (and we;'ve had quite a few!) with Louise and Andrew. Not only was our cottage lovely with fantastic deck area, Louise is the hostess with the mostest. She is one of the nicest, kindest and most hospitable people I have ever met and I am sad as I write this review because I can't return immediately. Both were such fun people, always dashing around making thier guests comfortable, working hard but finding time to socialise and be a mine of information. Andrew made us laugh because he eats a lion's diet and Louise enthralled us by being such a talented and genorous cook.Go!!! - but don't give Louise strong red wine as it gives her "mal du tete!"
