This wonderful masía dating from the 18th century is situated in a peaceful location, surrounded by fields, and half way between the city of Figueres and the medieval village of Besalú. It is just a few kilometres from the most beautiful spots along the Costa Brava, and only two kilometres away from a well renowned golf and spa resort. The house was completely rehabilitated in a casual but elegant style some years ago. The result is a perfect balance between modern comforts, traditional details and character. Mas Sallent is ideal for families and groups of friends, and its proximity to the Torremirona golf and spa resort (2km) makes it perfect for golf lovers too. The spa provides an excellent range of beauty and relaxation treatments for those needing to recharge their energy levels.

Sitting just south of the French border, the Costa Brava is perhaps one of the best-known areas of Catalonia. Its rocky, cliff-lined coasts and the small coves they hide, contrasted here and there with some long sandy beaches, have drawn artists, travellers and sun seekers. Mas Sallent is situated just 30km from the coast, in a quiet rural area near the small town of Navata. Navata has a couple of bars and restaurants which serve fresh, local food at very reasonable prices. It is a peaceful, relaxing place but is also within easy reach of the markets, shops and restaurants in Besalú (10km) , Figueres (12 km) and Girona (35km). Barcelona is just 125km away (one hour and 15 minutes by car). There is an exclusive golf and spa resort just 2km from the house. The golf course has a “Championship course” of 18 holes (par 72). The spa provides exercise circuits, massages and beauty treatments.

    These prices include: cleaning before arrival and after departure. In addition to this, sheets and towels will be provided and, if the stay is longer than one week, they will be weekly changed.

    To guarantee the confirmation we ask for a deposit of 30% of the total amount. The payment can be made by bank transfer or credit card.
    The balance, 70%, must be paid 6 weeks before arrival.
  • Note: This property has a servant’s quarter where a discreet house keeper lives. He is in charge of the maintenance, security and extra services. There are two very well behaved dogs, a young cocker spaniel and an old golden retriever. They are very friendly and never come inside the house.

Notes: The property is distributed on two levels. At ground floor level there is the entrance hall, that leads into vast living room with sofas, an open fireplace and TV, as well as formal dining area sitting 8. The sitting room is very spacious and has French doors that lead to the large garden and outside terraces. Adjacent the sitting room there is a lovely country kitchen with a casual dining area for 10 people. A stone staircase leads up to the upper floor where there is a spacious landing hall that gives access to 6 bedrooms, some of which have terraces. On the landing there is a desk with a computer , internet access, fax, telephone and printer. Outside the house there is a large garden with a swimming pool, a pond, a well, and various porches, one of which has a built in barbeque, which is ideal for al fresco dining spring to autumn. The house is set in beautiful unspoilt countryside surrounded by fields, and walking distance to the village of Navata.

How to get there: Fly with Ryanair to Girona (Gerona) airport, only 50km from the house. There are four main car hire desks at the airport: Hertz, Avis, Europcar and Auriga. You can reserve in advance using a car hire comparison site such as www.easyterra.com From the motorway exit , there are just around 10km to the house., which is easily reached. Further details will be given at the time of booking. Alternative airports are Perpignan (80 km) or Barcelona (130km).

The Weather in Catalonia: The weather is generally mild, with clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine, but without the extreme heat of the more central and southern areas. Rainfall has been very low in recent years. Spring and autumn are particularly attractive times to visit Mas Sallent if you are looking for an active holiday. In winter the days may be delightfully sunny and warm but the evenings can get very cold. Ideal for a glass of local wine around a blazing log fire.

Nearby visits: Historic city of Girona with great shopping, museums and dining; picturesque medieval village of Besalu, the Banyoles lake , the Garrotxa volcanic park, Figueres and the Dali Museum , Pals, Begur, Cadaques and coast, ceramic town of La Bisbal, Barcelona, French border, Collioure and Banyuls (1hr drive).
