'TUMBLE DOWN' WATERFRONT SUNSET WONDER, ALL SPORTS LAKE, FISHING

Brighton Cottage Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Historic waterfront cottage known as 'Tumble Down' with amazing sunsets. Originally built in 1923 by a well known gentleman who built many field stone cottages in the area, several of which are on West Crooked Lake. Tumble Down is located on low boat traffic, West Crooked Lake with water access to East Crooked Lake. Both are all sports lakes. Relax and barbecue on your private deck overlooking the lake, swing on the porch swing, enjoy the hot tub or roast marshmallows over the campfire. Sunbathing on the shore, deck or dock. Paddle around the lake in the 16' canoe or paddle boat both provided, bring your own boat or rent our 25 foot Bennington pontoon boat for $100 per day (gas included). Boat launch 1/2 mile away. Great fishing. Property has extensive gardens and was featured on the LACASA garden tour in 2010. Be sure to explore the secret gnome garden. Courtyard with fountain.

Tumble Down has much to offer year round. Enjoy foliage color in the fall, cross-country skiing and ice fishing in the winter. We look forward to sharing our slice of paradise with you.

We love to travel, spend time with friends and family, garden, enjoy good food and wine, host parties, and of course spend time on our lake!

Melisa Burnett purchased this cottage in 2005

We have lived in this community for almost 20 years. Living on West Crooked Lake is like living 'on vacation' all of the time. We looked at every lake in Brighton and settled on West Crooked Lake based on sunsets, quality of water, visual interest, boat traffic, wildlife and quality of residence development.

We love watching the circle of life on our lake year round. We have multiple bird families that make West Crooked Lake their home; Multiple Swan families, Canada Geese, Wood Ducks, Blue Herons, Egrets, Sandhill Cranes, Hawks, a pair of Morning Doves that nest in our garden and a mischievous Muskrat that lives in our neighbor's wood pile.

First time renting a place on VRBO, hope they all go as well as this time. Everything was as stated in their listing, the property was beautiful, the owners a pleasure to work with.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION AND HOME

  • 5 of 5
My family had such a great time at this home. The views are breathtaking and make those not from Michigan to purchase a home in Michigan. My hubby and son enjoyed fishing (caught a pike), paddle boating around the islands, and campfires! The home is clean and decorated so darn cute! Melisa is extremely personable. She provided our family with suggestions for food, activities, and more importantly made us feel like it was our home! My only suggestion, is if you are a tall man, like my hubby, the rooms are small and he was head to toe sleeping. Even with that, he loved the house and there were other places to sleep he just chose the room! We can’t wait to go back. This was our first time ever using VRBO and our experience was out of this world. I sincerely can’t express how much Melisa welcomed us, and how clean this home is!
This home is totally worth every penny! Thank you so much Melisa for making this a wonderful memory my family will never forget.

FUN TIME!

  • 4 of 5
The house was wonderful, but felt like visiting a Hobbit's house (my wife and I are over 6 feet tall). The view cannot be beat. We enjoyed the evenings sitting on the porch and around the fire pit making smores. The paddle boat was great to explore the islands in the lake. Ann Arbor and Brighton are cool towns to explore (the kids loved searching for Fairy Doors). The landscaping is immaculate! There are 45 steps down to the entrance so be careful, or Tumble Down will earn its name. The owners were great and very accommodating (they live in the attached house, but there is significant privacy). The hot tub would have been awesome, but there were some technical difficulties. It was a good introduction to Michigan for this Texas boy. I would stay here again anytime!!!

GREAT TRIP

  • 5 of 5
Our annual fall get-a-way was a blast. Despite the weather (it was cold and rainy some of the time) we had a wonderful time. The cottage itself was truly a delight. We had plenty to do and we never turned the T.V. on which I truly enjoyed. We used the hot-tub, ate on the deck, played games and took a canoe ride. Even though there are several steps leading down to the cottage....we enjoyed the challenge. I would highly recommend this rental. The owners were very pleasant and easy to work with.

GREAT TIME AT TUMBLE DOWN

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at Tumble Down cottage. Family and friends came to visit almost every day and they said the exact same thing. Very nice cottage, well decorated, plenty of amenities, and wonderful owners. My family loved it so much that we're thinking of making a yearly tradition of spending a week each summer at Tumble Down. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone.

FAMILY VACATION

  • 4 of 5
We had a great time. It was very accurate in the description. We enjoyed the pontoon boat but wished that it went faster so we could ski. Next year we will find a place with a ski boat. Also the steps down to the unit were steep. Maybe to warn people that if elderly or handicapped this place would not work.
The views were amazing and the house hosts were so nice. We had a nice vacation.
Thanks
