Perfect Base!

The two Hikers Germany
Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We (party of 2, 40+, no kids) stayed in the 2 bed cottage 2nd week of Aug. 2009.
Cottage was exact as described here, beside that our first impression was "Wow, this is quite big!". Cottage was very clean. The beds (we used the left bedroom when coming up the stairs) were not too soft and not too hard. There was a big set of flyers from local activity-providers allready there, so that there was no need to visit a local information Center. The Cottage is located between Hay-on-Wye and Brecon, which gives a good base for activities in any direction.
Our best activitiy was a Canoetrip from Glasbury on the River Wye on a very nice sunny day. It was easy paddeling downstream, but an early start (09:30) is recommended, so that you are more or less alone on the river (thought it good to mention it here, since it is not mentioned as a possible activity in the description).
Hiking in the Beacons or the Black Mountains has been very nice. For those activities several local maps in military scale were also provided. Since these maps are usually at ~ 8 GBP each, this was quite comfortable. The garden suits excellent for a barbecue in the evening.
The house has a small library shelf with about some 20 books.
The shower has its own heating engine and provides good water
pressure.
We did not use TV and DVD at all, so nothing to say about that.
The cottage is easy to detect on google maps and the satellite view has a very good resolution.
We came in via ferry from Harwich, and you have to calculate 6 to 6,5 hours driving time from there, depending on M25 traffic. The 5 hours something estimated by our routing software was a bit too optimistic.
We can fully recommend this location and would stay again if in the same region.
