Glockner's Homeport has been home to commercial fishers Cliff & Connie Glockner for most of their lives. They earned their living and raised their family here on the banks of Bayou Lacombe. Recognizing the importance of outdoor life and the ecosystem that make it enjoyable, they were instrumental in the Save Our Lake movement to clean up Lake Pontchartrain, and were awarded the National Wetlands Award for their efforts. With St. Tammany being the fastest growing parish in the country, they realized that something had to be done to preserve some of our natural ecosystems for future generations. They initiated the movement to form the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge and drew together a diverse coalition to make it a reality.
What a wonderful getaway on Bayou Lacomb! Well appointed and comfortable, this getaway was so relaxing and enjoyable. We trailered our boat and launched nearby to enjoy the surrounding waters during our stay. Highly recommended. A definately favorite on my VRBO list!
What a beautiful gem! The location is absolutely incredible. When we pulled up, my husband and I both looked at each other and said "do we really get to stay here?!"
The views were stunning. Sunrise and sunset are musts. The sunroom is perfect for watching the afternoon storms and playing cards in the evening.
The house is spacious, extremely clean and the decor is very welcoming and homey.
Make sure you try crabbing! The private docks are so convenient and fun. Also, a local adventure shop sent out some incredibly friendly locals to help us fish.
Long story short, this place is incredible and we WILL be back!
This lovely camp home was even better than the owners description. Clean and comfortable. Everything you need in the kitchen except the actual food. My favorite place was the beautiful little sunroom. The guys really enjoyed cooking and adult beverages in the area under the house. There was always a cool breeze blowing there. We caught lots of crabs, on the small side but still very good! Looking forward to our next visit.
Our yacht club had such a great time last year that we are going to cruise across Lake Pontchartrain to Glockner's again this year. Plenty of room for sailboats to dock/raft on the bayou. Easy access by car, too. Laid back all weekend. Kayaks went on a little adventure up the bayou. So quiet and peacefull! We just asked Miss Connie to book us again in April.
This property is not fancy, but it is clean and comfortable-- and the back deck is over the bayou! The owner got immediate help for us (twice in one evening even) when there was a slight utility problem. This was a great place to meet our family. It is only 45 minutes to New Orleans, for the airport and city-type excitement and events. It is very close to 2 towns with all the amenities you could need, like a grocery store, WalMart, and movie theater. And it is just plain quiet and relaxing down on the bayou. We enjoyed walking and bike riding on the Tamany Trail. The Trail and the bait shop at which to rent bikes is only 3 miles away in Lacombe. Everyone we met was so helpful and friendly; I would recommend this house for anybody seeking a nice quiet time away from the worries of every day life.
The listing was even better in person than what the pictures describe. The place was extremely clean and well cared for. I used the time to get away from life for a week, and this place did the trick!! Connie was a gracious host - the place was wonderful and she answered any questions that I had promptly. Did an awful lot of fishing from the piers, and lots of crabbing. Felt like Bear Grylls living off of nature...ate bass, speckled trout and a ton of crabs during the stay! Everyone was so friendly - made a few friends who lived in that area, and even had a friend pick me up in his boat for a morning and caught some specs.
The view from the back sitting room was spectacular. The gorgeous bayou and marsh are right in front of you, as well as Lake Pontchartrain. In fact, the weather was so clear, I could easily see the New Orleans night skyline from the porch I can't wait to plan another vacation here.
