The local town is a quick 10-minute stroll from the Chateau. Here you will find a local grocery store, a few restaurants, bar and tabac, bakery, butcher shop and stores producing local Calvados and cidre.
A little further away is the town of Sees which boasts a beautiful gothic cathedral listed as a French historical monument. Here you will also find numerous restaurants serving traditional Normandy food all made from the local produce and farms.
Other day trips include Bayeaux where the infamous Bayeaux tapestry is housed and an interesting museum depicting the history of Normandy and the Norman conquests and, of course, visiting the D-day beaches, museums and memorial sights along the Normandy coast which are all located within 20 miles of Bayeux. The historic seaside town of Mont St. Michel is also nearby but if one is after bright lights then Paris is only 1.5hrs away by train.
