Royal Oak Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8), house is 4,041 square feet.

Historic Watch Goose Farm is now available as your private waterfront vacation destination. This family property (owned since 1942) can be enjoyed as a secluded and romantic getaway, or as a location for the active outdoor family vacation. GREAT EASTERN SHORE HISTORIC HOUSE

  • 4 of 5
Three generations of our family rented the house for Thanksgiving. It was a terrific place to spend the holiday – and it would be even better when the weather is warm so that guests can take advantage of all the outdoor activities.

The house is historic, with some rooms dating to the 1700s while others were built quite recently. It makes for an eclectic and interesting mix of spaces, which my family loved. The ceilings and doorways in the oldest part of the house are low, but it wasn’t really a problem even for those of us over six feet tall. Three of the four bedrooms are accessible only by climbing winding stairways, which may be difficult for people with mobility issues. However, the fourth and largest bedroom is on the main level and does not require guests to go up or down steps.

The kitchen is large and has enough room for several people to make a big meal. It’s also extremely well appointed for cooking. Because we were there for Thanksgiving, the owners installed a new fridge and stove before we arrived, which was an extremely conscientious thing to do.

The building layout is ideal for a large group. It lets some guests gather together in one part of the house while others can simultaneously get some quiet time if they like. There are lots of games and things for groups of people to do, both indoors and outside.

As others have indicated, the wifi and mobile phone service is poor. We didn’t mind but it’s something to consider if you will absolutely need access during your stay.

We really enjoyed the house and would definitely recommend it to friends.

BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
My family rented this property for my dad's 75th birthday celebration and wish we had more time there. My dad is a hard man to please, but he loved it and is talking about coming back next year.

The house itself has so much character. Yes, some of the stairways are narrow and winding and a few ceilings are low, but the four guys in my family between 6'1" and 6'5" survived.

The pictures of the house online really do not do this property justice. Both the outdoors and indoors are much more impressive in person...plus, the pictures neglect to include the biggest room in the house with its vaulted ceilings and loft area (no worries about bumping our heads in this room).

The only negative was the slow wireless and poor cell phone reception...but even that ended up being a positive because we were able to enjoy nature without checking our phones, iPads, etc. every minute. The house does have Direct TV, so we were able to watch TV when we felt like it.

The outdoors are so relaxing, whether we were fishing off the dock, swimming in the pool, taking the kayaks out onto the water, or using the gas grill to cook lunch. Our young children loved it too, but I would recommend keeping an eye on children because the pool is not fenced.

The owners were great too. Before we arrived, I emailed Nancy with a lot of questions about the property, and she answered them quickly. She also was very helpful once we arrived, but gave us our space after we checked in.

I would highly recommend this property to other renters and would love to visit Watch Goose Farm again.

PERFECT FOR A GIRLS WEEKEND RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time at this home for a bachelorette party weekend. The house is very well kept and large enough to accomodate a big group. We found it nice that our group could be visiting in different areas of the house or be in one room all together. The living room is particularly nice for larger groups to hang out and have space to sit and relax.
The outdoor space is also very nice. The option of having your own pool with boats to take out on the lake was incredible. We also found ourselves hanging out at the end of the dock where there is some seating. The dock was a beautiful place for watching sunsets and the stars at night.
Also, the home is close enough to the downtown St. Michael's area it was no trouble getting back and forth. Nancy (the owner) gave us a particularly helpful tip to coordinate our transportation with a local bar, Carpenter Street Saloon, which helped us all get home safely from our bachelorette bar hop.
Everyone said that they would love to come back! I'm sure the fall would be a beautiful time of the year at this home.

HISTORIC RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
This is a lovely property and we so enjoyed the sunsets each evening. Since the property is large and the house is rambling, there was plenty of privacy for our group of 3 cycling couples. We also found the home to be well-stocked with soap and paper products. The location is a couple of miles outside of the town of st michaels and easily reached by bicycle or car. We also enjoyed the round trip bike ride to oxford (approx 19 miles) which included a 10 minute ferry ride from bellevue to oxford. a special highlight was lunch at the robert morris inn with a much appreciated roaring fireplace after the cold weather bike ride. i would recommend this rental to friends and family. we plan to return again ourselves.

FUN AND RELAXING GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
This home is 100% as advertised! The kids had a blast playing in the pool, running around the yard, and playing hide and seek in the house. All of us loved crabbing and could not believe how easy it was! We went into St. Michael's only for brunch and dinner - it was a quick 5-6 minute drive.
The owners are warm and helpful.
This was the perfect getaway for two families looking to unwind and enjoy time together. I hope to return next year!

HISTORIC HOME; BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS

  • 3 of 5
We recently returned from a week at this home. My husband and I went with our 10 month old daughter, our parents and a friend came for a few days as well. Pros: Gorgeous grounds right on the Bay, clean and well kept, wonderful pool, nice new dock. Kayaks and canoes provided for use. Kitchen/bathrooms equipped with all basics including soaps, linens, paper products and kitchen essentials (coffee, sugar/sugar substitutes, salt/pepper). Plenty of common space for socializing, many games provided. Dog friendly - our Lab might have had more fun than we did! 10 min drive to town with many shops/restaurants/activities. Bedrooms as follows: 2 rooms with 2 twin beds, one room with queen bed, one room with double bed. Cons: 2 of the 4 bedrooms have no doors for privacy/noise control. 3 of the 4 bedrooms have very steep, very narrow, curved staircases to get to them. I'm short and I hit my head going up the steps to our bedroom at least 3 times. Carrying an infant up/down any of these staircases not super safe. Trees planted around the pool are poisonous (oleander) to both dogs and humans. I would not recommend this property for families with babies/ very young children or people with physical disabilities/difficulty getting around. Would be fine for a group of adults or for older children.
