Spend your Northport Vacation at Sandhill -- one block off the bay and two blocks from beaches, marina, playground, coffee, dinner and shopping! This solid four bedroom Cape boasts hardwood floors, fresh paint, a GREAT front porch with wicker rockers, a HUGE yard for kids to play in, and a floral garden that blooms all summer. An easy walk to the Marina, Fourth of July Fireworks and weekly Music in the Park. So close, kids can go on their own for library books and ice cream! It's an easy walk to downtown shopping, Willowbrook Mill (weddings!) Barb's Bakery (cinnamon twists!) North End (breakfast!) and the Garage (killer BBQ!).
Huge open living area, with 'adult seating' area and 'TV/gaming seating' area -- 42' Sony Flatscreen, with wireless internet, DVD player, Netflix, (but, sorry! no cable television...). Bring your own video games! Plenty of board games, too. Gather around the giant oak refectory table and serving buffet; choose the antique oak pedestal table in the kitchen -- or take it outside on the picnic table or garden table with umbrella.
Downstairs master with a super comfy queen bed and full bath; upstairs choose from a king bed room, a sunny royal blue/green double twin room, or the Jungle Bunk Room -- popular with kids! New paint, new linens, new wall art -- all arriving daily! You will LOVE this place!
Super quiet in Northport -- and the stars seem VERY close on the 45th parallel....

We have have renovated and managed vacation homes in the Fourth Street area of Northport for many years. The Maples, Birches and Harbor House were popular seasonal rental properties for many families! Now, Sandhill continues this tradition.
My favorite comment from the guest books?
'I have been renting in Northern Michigan for 30 years, and your property is the first place I didn't feel I had to wash the silverware before using it!'
Marcia J Boynton purchased this house in 1999
Northport's uncrowded beaches, bustling marina and summer festivals in the park make it a great summer get away. Swim or boat in crystal clear Grand Traverse Bay, or enjoy Lake Michigan! So laid back -- no need to comb your hair or paint your nails up here!
Cinnamon Twists at Barb's Bakery, viewing Beaver Island on a clear day from the top of Grand Traverse Light, hiking through the state park to the ultra private, glorious Lake Michigan beach at Cathead Bay, walking the trail at Kehl Lake (take your little kids, it's a great place to imagine the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth!) -- and of course, wine, craft beer, shopping, reading, eating and napping! Rainy day? No worries -- movies are just 20 minutes away in Sutton's Bay!
My family and I spent four fun filled beautiful autumn days at Sandhill. We traveled to Northport to attend our niece's wedding. This inviting home was perfect in every way...clean, quiet, well equipped, spacious rooms and a perfect location. Marcia could not have been more accommodating. She allowed us to host a brunch for 25 guests and everyone who attended asked how we found this "Gem of a home". We could not have asked for a more perfect vacation rental. Thank you Marcia and VRBO.
We just got home from a wonderful time in Northport and the surrounding area.... What a GREAT time we had....This property is in the PERFECT location, we walked to dinner, breakfast, the beach, shops and so much more. You are also only a short drive to many other communities. The house is roomy with plenty of space for us and it is on a beautiful corner lot with a ton of yard space to hang out in. The house has everything you will need. When you get to Northport you must check out Barb's Bakery and North End Eatery, we were at both more than once !! Looking forward to our return to being "up north " .
My wife and I stayed here with 3 other couples and had a wonderful time. The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed dinners together in the large dining room and other social activities in the living room den and on the porch. The driveway held all 4 of our cars. Even those in twin beds or bunk beds slept well. The location is great. You can watch the sunrise over the bay with just a short walk to the marina, and you can see the sunset over Lake Michigan with a 5 mile drive or bike ride. Walking around town we enjoyed watching salmon spawning in streams. Bars, restaurants, stores are all less than a half mile away. And there are beaches, hiking trails, and excellent biking all very close by.
My family and I had such a great time staying at this beautiful home in Northport. We loved having the convenience of being able to walk into Northport, yet the quiet feel to relax. We would highly recommend this home and look forward to staying here again.
We had the pleasure of staying here for two weeks and didn't want to leave when the time came. The house is perfect in every way. It's more like going to stay at your friend Marcia's house than renting a vacation home. The house is very comfortable and clean and has everything you could want and Marcia is so easy and fun to work with/talk to. It is within walking distance of everything Northport has to offer, including a little beach at the end of the road. We only saw two other people on that beach during our two weeks...it's like having a private beach! From morning strolls to Barb's Bakery for the best cinnamon twists you'll ever eat, to Friday evening walks to Music in the Park by the marina, this home is in an ideal location. We started planning our next trip before the first week was over. Don't pass up this house!
We recently had the distinct pleasure of spending a week at this lovely Northport home. It was as close to perfect as anyone could want, and Marcia is welcoming, accommodating, and efficient. The house is quiet, well-equipped, airy, and beautifully landscaped. Call dibs on the downstairs bedroom; the cross-breeze is better than any amount of air conditioning! There's a large side lawn that easily accommodated our four-generation rolling badminton game, a picnic table, lounge furniture, shade trees, and two mad-for-Frisbee dogs. We could walk anywhere in town; the grocery store, restaurants, book shop, hardware store, library, beach, marina - nothing is more than a leisurely 15 minute stroll away. (I'm not even going to mention the incredible, delectable cinnamon rolls from Barb's Bakery because I'm planning to eat them all myself.) The two teenaged members of our group were amazed to discover that you can surf on Lake Michigan. They spent a sun-filled day taking lessons and then surfing on their own through the services of Sleeping Bear Surf and Kayak in Empire, which is a short 50 minute drive from Northport and has a long, clean, sand beach and towering sand dunes. Sunset Watersports delivered a rental boat to us at the boat launch in Northport; we rented a slip for it at the well-kept marina, and enjoyed being out on the crystal-clear Lake Michigan water. Sutton's Bay is 12 miles away, filled with quaint little shops to occupy the occasional damp afternoon. The local grocery can easily handle staples, but if you're looking for premium meat and shellfish, stop at the Bayside Market in Traverse City on the way through. They're open until 11:00 and have a wonderful supply of meat, shellfish, beer, wine, and various nummies to go with it all. We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our holiday, and certainly hope to come back again!
Leelanau Vinters Wine Trail, Grand Traverse Lighthouse, Leelanau State Park, beach walking Lake Michigan, hunting Petoskey Stones, sunset views over Lake Michigan at Peterson Park, shopping in Fishtown (Leland) and in Sutton's Bay, many summer festivals (art, wine, jazz, chicken broil, fish fry, antique cars). Leelanau Sands Casino just 15 mins away.
