DOWNTOWN, HISTORIC, FABULOUS KITCHEN, SPACIOUS

Niagara-on-the-Lake House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Vanderlip Marcy House is a historic property and has recently become available for you to rent as the perfect vacation home. What an opportunity to experience a truly historical home with all the modern luxuries!!

After the town was burned in 1813, Vanderlip Marcy, was one of the first to be rebuilt in 1816. If you were to describe a signature home for Niagara-on-the-Lake, this is it! The classic black and white charm is quintessential to the area. Offering modern kitchen and bathrooms, really comfy cozy beds, 5 fireplaces, air-conditioning/heat and spectacular mature gardens, this home has always been well maintained and it shows! Solidly built and loving cared for over the past two centuries, the charm and the nostalgia of its origins remains for you to enjoy. The location could not be better, from the front door you can see down Victoria Street to Queen Street, the main shopping, dining and theatre district. Park your car and walk everywhere!

Throughout the original section, the wide plank flooring and exposed oak beams have been lovingly retained. Almost 200 years ago, these floors, walls and ceilings would have been privy to the conversations of Mr Vanderlip and other leaders of the community who rebuilt Niagara-on-the-Lake. I think they would be proud of how well the town is flourishing and the fact that we still cherish what they started.

Light floods into each room from beautiful muntin windows. French doors are everywhere on the ground floor leading into superb English garden settings. Enjoy people watching from the street side gardens or the privacy of the back garden nestled on a flag stone patio alcove with access to both the kitchen and the morning room. A flagstone patio and walk way are signatures of a period home in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

All three spacious bedrooms are in the original section of the home, main floor has a king bed, en suite and a beautiful sitting area. Upstairs is a queen bed with ample closet space as well as easy access to the fully renovated bathroom. The third bedroom is huge with a set of twin ‘nun’s’ beds. Although we are unable to verify, we think have been in the home for years and years, because there is no way to move them out! This room offers ample closet space, book shelves and sitting area. Recline on the chaise lounge for an early morning read while overlooking the activity of the street coming alive for the day! All beds have extremely comfortable mattresses and high quality 100% cotton bed linens. Perfect for snuggling into after a wonderful day of exploring the wineries, restaurants, parks or the local shops in town! How nice to go to the theater, and then come back to a home that predates the era of George Bernard Shaw!

The kitchen is also part of the original home and is a wonderful marriage of old and new. Appliances are hidden behind contemporary paneled doors, original wood plank floors and exposed brick provide elegant country charm. This huge kitchen has two sinks, double ovens, ample counter space and is well equipped. Also features a sitting area to keep the rest of your traveling companions close but not underfoot! Let them sip wine, while you reign supreme in this gourmet kitchen whipping up your favourite show-off recipes! Local grocer is just around the corner and don’t forget all the specialty food boutiques in old town!

The morning room is off the kitchen with two beautiful French doors flanking the working fire place. Full of light, cozy and comfortable with vaulted ceilings, this sitting area flows through to main foyer. The large entry hall has beautiful vaulted ceilings, French doors that lead to private back garden and a three piece bathroom (an amazing engineering feat to put a tub, shower, vanity, washer, dryer and lavatory all in one small space – yet so elegantly done!) The great room is off the other side of the foyer with a magnificent fireplace, this room is lined on both sides with French doors that provide easy access to all the mature gardens that surround this beautiful home. Great for TV watching, lounging around, or hanging out with your favorite novel! It is also a great space for entertaining indoors, while being surrounded by the outdoor gardens that are visible from the everywhere in the room. No need to worry about the weather, indoors or out-of-doors, this home has it all!

The beautiful nurtured gardens are an exquisite part of this beautiful residence meandering around the house connected by flagstone walk ways. They offer both private sitting and dinning spaces where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and listen to the fountain bubble in the English style setting.

This vacation home offers the ultimate living like a local experience.

Whilst looking for a retirement home in Ontario, we fell upon the lovely town of NOTL and this lovely 200 year old historical house. The old town appealed to us because it seemed to be a combination of an English village and a New England sea port - lots of churches, quaint homes, a marina on the river, festivals, pubs and restaurants, wine and walking. We purchased the Vanderlip Marcy house specifically because of its central location and ease of access to those amenities that interested us the most. My passion is my garden, and this home is surrounded by an amazing English Garden with interesting features that I am so pleased to share with my guests! We also love to end the day by heading to our local pub for a cold brew or a glass of local wine. Come and enjoy being part of the neighbourhood!

Janet Trogdon purchased this house in 2011

The original Vanderlip Marcy house is 200 years old, having been built on the foundation of an even older structure destroyed during the war of 1812. It was constructed tight to the street in Georgian style and still retains those aspects that give it its historical designation and charm. Each room has its original heating fireplace. All rooms have original wide, pine plank floors. On the exterior there are operational shutters and a cedar shake roof. There have been two additions on to the original structure, the latest being the Great Room, 18' x 20' with its own fireplace used for entertaining and relaxing. The kitchen and three bathrooms are newly appointed and totally modern. Outside there are two private areas to relax and socialize, still within the sound of the horses drawn carriages which pass on the street

A Treasure of a Home

Such a lovely historical home for us to spend our honeymoon with our 4 friends from England!!! It truly is everything and more that is indicated in the overview of the property!!
Very easy to find once in NOTL and the location is wonderful~~one block from the main street!! We arrived early and after parking, we explored the town as the cleaners were just finishing up. Upon entering the home, we could not believe our eyes. We fell in love with the property right away.
The gardens all around the house were very well maintained and colourful!
We could not ask for anything better . The Brits fell in love with the home and felt like they were home with the Union Jack flag flying in the courtyard!
A bonus is the linens and towels and the supplies are all there so you don't need to pack extras!!
The Angel Inn and the Irish Harp are great wee pubs with great food, atmosphere, staff and cold beer. The golf course was accommodating for the men on short notice when they were hosting a tournament. NOTL is a hidden gem and to be able to find a great house to stay in, made it a wonderful experience.
All in all, we would highly recommending this property. In reading over the guest book and comments, I came across a couple that I know well who vacationed in this home also. Small world!!
Thanks again!!

We loved our stay in this huge, lovely, grand old home with all the modern conveniences. This place turned out to be even better than my (high) expectations from the pictures!! The beds --superb, the linens --high end, bathrooms --modern, the kitchen --well equiped.
Especially enjoyed evenings having a glass of wine in the "Great Room" with it's original fireplace and comfortable furnishings.
The residence is just 2 blocks from the town's main shopping / pubs / restaurants / and activities. Didn't need my car to go out and have fun!!

Fabulous in all ways. The MV House more than lived up to the listing description. It is the perfect spot to spend time in NOTL in any season. It’s within easy walking distance the downtown core with all the many unique shops & eateries, “locals “ like the Angel Inn & the Harp, the Shaw Festival Theatre & the numerous attractions that make Niagara-on-the-Lake a great vacation destination. It is also only a few minutes easy drive to most of the area wineries & several antique stores.
The ambiance of the Vanderlip-Marcy House is amazing. You can sit back, sip a glass of your favourite beverage & feel transported to the 19th Century while at the same time enjoying all the modern conveniences that this house offers. I would recommend the rental of this beautiful home to anyone who is looking for a special destination to spend their vacation time.
