The Ice House - Oceanview Cottage - now booking for Summer/Fall 2014
Built sometime in the mid-1800s as an ice house, this charming 1 bedroom cottage is located in the Old Garden Beach neighborhood in Rockport, Massachusetts. Across the street is the Old Garden Beach path, a spectacular seaside trail that brings you to the beach in less than 5 minutes. Downtown Rockport with its shops, restaurants and the acclaimed Shalin Liu Performance Center is a short walk away.
The cottage has recently been completely and lovingly renovated, and is ideal for a single person, couple or small family as it can comfortably accommodate 4 people. With a front and back yard and screened in porches on both the front and back of the cottage, it is very spacious. The generous front screened in porch, with its ocean view, is fully furnished and is great for alfresco dining! The second screened in porch is off the kitchen in the rear of the house. Inside, the comfortable living room with original bead-board walls, has a queen sized sleep sofa and 32” TV. In the dining area, the antique oak table can easily accommodate up to 6 people. You will love the galley-like kitchen where everything is within easy reach. It features all new appliances and eating bar for 2. The bath is off the living room. The bedroom occupies the entire 2nd floor with windows on all four sides. In this treetop-like setting is a queen sized sleigh bed with matching dresser and night stand. There are 2 good size closets as well as a closet in the living room. For those of you planning to spend time at the beach an outdoor shower is available. If biking or kayaking is your thing, there is additional storage if you want to bring your bicycles, kayaks etc.
Additional amenities include: washer-dryer, air conditioning, wireless internet service, cable TV, DVD, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and a private backyard patio with gas grill. Off-street parking for up to four cars is available.
The cottage is charming, beautifully decorated and will be sure to delight! It is an ideal spot for your vacation getaway!
We hope that you will be charmed by our cottage by the sea. It had its humble beginnings as an Ice House and was originally situated across the street. The $75 bill of sale, dated 1895, was , we believed, when it was moved and converted to a house. Its second 'home' owner (we are the 4th) called it The Fernery because of all the fiddlehead ferns, which still abound. The Ice House is one of 2 houses on the property. My husband and I live next door, both work full-time and have 2 sons, one serving in the Air Force and the other a college student.
You, too, will fall in love with Cape Ann with all that it has to offer (arts, outdoor activities, antiquing, restaurants ), and without the traffic of other summer tourist destinations.
We are avid swimmers, and so are spoiled that we can walk to the beach and be there in minutes. If you like to walk, it doesn't get much better than Rockport. Besides the ocean vistas, there are no two homes alike!
