My husband and I bought this property in 2006 because we love the area. Leelanau County is truly the Land of Delight. There is a view of the bay with a low-traffic peaceful setting.
This location lets you enjoy walking your dogs through the nearby cherry orchards and along the bays (both Suttons Bay and Grand Traverse Bay). Biking into town to get a cup of coffee, shop, discover unique art galleries, watch a movie, or dine in one of Suttons Bay's variety of restaurants lets you enjoy the incredibly beautiful views. It is even possible to kayak across Suttons Bay for dinner. Traverse City is only a short 20 minute drive away.
In the master bedroom there is a king-size bed with a hot tub located just outside the French doors. Upstairs there is also a queen-size bedroom across the hall from a spacious bathroom. The 'bunk-house' equipped with four single beds is a great place for kids. Downstairs there is a bedroom with a full-size bed. A baby bed is available upon request. In the den area there is a comfortable futon for additional sleeping. There are several areas to relax in the open floor plan, a spacious living room with a 51” TV, sunroom (my personal favorite spot for reading), and kitchen with breakfast bar. Downstairs provides room for entertainment: a game table, 2 televisions, a video game system (Wii), jukebox and comfy sofas.
The yard provides an area for lawn games. Play a game of “horse” on the basketball goal in the driveway. Enjoy making s’mores or roasting hotdogs over a fire in the fire pit area.
Keywords: tranquil setting, beautifully decorated, comfortable, with well-equipped kitchen, on the corner of Nanagosa and Lovers Lane, across from Vic Steimel Township Park with public access, nearby beaches
I am a Spanish teacher at the Leelanau School located in nearby Glen Arbor. In the summer I serve wine part time at Leelanau Cellars tasting room in Omena. My husband, Dave, makes the award-winning raclette cheese at Leelanau Cheese. We enjoy travelling, sailing, biking, hiking, kayaking, walking our dogs, going to the beach, and wine-tasting.
Kim Speicher purchased this house in 2006
Leelanau county has always felt like 'home' even before we moved to the area. My family has vacationed in this area since 1942. The quaint villages, lakes, sailing, parks, beaches have been the perfect place to vacation with our four sons. There are so many activities for all ages.
There are two kayaks available for guests to enjoy the bay across the street. It is fun to kayak around Stony Point to Suttons Bay.
My husband and I spent a week here with his parents, siblings, a baby and an uncle. There was plenty of room for everyone and also plenty of space to hang out. The dining room was excellent for eating in and the kitchen was roomy and well equipped. The tiled showers were very nice and clean and the bathrooms overall were nice as well. Great location, wonderful wine tasting options, close enough to traverse city... Thank you!
We rented the house with another family for the week. We had a great time! There was plenty of room, the weather was terrific, the house was clean and had everything we needed. The kids loved the hot tub, the yard, the bunk bed rooms, etc. We were close to town, close to the dunes, close to Leland, the TART trail, Traverse City, etc. We packed in quite a lot during the week and left feeling satisfied!
Just spent a week here with our four kids (ages 11, 7, 2, and 2) and my mom & aunt. This home worked great for us, with plenty of sleeping room for all. Kids enjoyed the Wii, hot tub, kayaking, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and throwing rocks into the bay, which is just as close as it looks in the photos. Adults enjoyed reading in the sun room and the adirondack chairs out front, the hot tub, the fire pit, riding bikes and walking on the nearby streets, and throwing rocks into the bay. Close drive to Traverse City, Leland, and Glen Arbor. Loved it and would definitely stay again!
What a great find. We live in Chicago and normally I spend my summers in NY for work, and we spend weekends in Amagansett past East Hampton, a small seaside village about the same scale as Suttons Bay. When we normally get away from Chicago, we head to Douglas Michigan off Saugatuck, but this was long weekend and we had friends from Leland area in town from San Fran at their family cottage.
This home is exactly what the DR ordered and we enjoyed the Stoney Pointe remote feel though the town is just a 4 min drive down the road, and also the endless Wineries you can subject yourself too to a point of extreme bliss.
The home is a great setting of shady trees and chirping birds and all the summertime sounds, we miss in a highrise in Chicago, its GREEN views out every window, as well as the lakeshore and water vistas. This home is very well appointed and decorated, with a great family room upstairs and downstairs, as well as very nice kitchen and dining areas with both sunroom and patios area to chill out. The bedrooms are luxury and cozy in a Michigan feel, and the Jacuzzi was a delight. Though ti was just my wife and I, this would be great for a two couples with kids or a large family too. The kitchen has every possible cooking need you could ask for, quality as well, and they also have huge cabinet of games, a piano ( I can play some Burt Bacharach) and also huge flat screen HD (Summer Olympics were on) and also DVD's, CD's and books. There is also a huge BBQ gas grill on patio, and a full table and chairs we had breakfast and dinner at.
I cant find any faults with this place at all, the best part is there a little park across street on the lakeshore and with BBQ and picnic tables, just sublime lazyness I must admit.
Another bonus is the great Hansens Grocery store in town, and also the VI Village Inn.
So, this a great home to make your own, and also enjoy the areas great offerings. It really is a nice value, and wish we has a few more nights. Though I only spoke on the phone to the owners, it was very cordial and friendly, wish we had time to meet them.
BTW- We went to Black Star farms for a Pizza and wine Friday night and its was the perfect low key meal that was the healthiest pizza I have ever encountered, and tastiest too... (Mushroom)
I am from Indiana, and I stay with my family here every year! The home is nestled on the tip of Stony Point, which is between Sutton's Bay and Grand Traverse Bay. There is a great view out the front window for watching sunrises, or you can walk down the block(1/4 mile or less). We love biking or walking around the point or into town(Sutton's Bay). There's not a lot of traffic, which is surprising considering it's so close to so many tourist spots (Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Leland, Sutton's Bay, lelanau sands casino, and about 30 wineries).
The house is very nice! There is a lot of open space on the top floor, which is great for having family time and social gatherings. There is a great kitchen with a breakfast bar. It has a HOT TUB and big screen TV if you just feel like hanging around the house. The basement has dorm area with several beds for kids. The 3 bedrooms you could have couples stay in(2 upstairs+ 1 downstairs, not including the dorm).
The owners are really cool too! The husband makes cheese at Lelanau Cheese, which is the best cheese ever! His wife teaches High School Spanish.
I would highly recommend this place!
Wine tasting- there are over 20 wineries within 30 minutes!, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline- voted most beautiful place in America by Good Morning America in 2011, Interlochen School for the Arts, Northport Lighthouse and State Park, Leland (Fishtown), Lelanau Sands Casino. There are also 2 sea kayaks available for use!
