Podere Calza is a restored cottage whose foundations date back to medieval times. Sitting on the side of a hill, surrounded by olive trees and shaded by a secular oak tree, Podere Calza is the perfect base for a quiet and romantic holiday in a part of Tuscany which is still very pure and unspoilt. Completely restored to be the owner's main residence, the house has a real welcoming feel. It develops around a very bright living area with a large fireplace and high windows offering stunning views over the country. A glass door takes you out to the terraced garden shaded by a lovely oak tree under which is a table for alfresco dining. Off the living room is a reading room equipped with a good stereo, TV and a double sofa bed. The reading room hosts a split floor with another double sofa bed.

The back portion hosts a double bedroom and a bathroom with bathtub. The house is easily reached via a 500mt gravel road.

Radicondoli is a medieval hamlet near Siena. A perfect location to relax and visit art cities like Florence, San Gimignano, Piena, Volterra, the leaning tower of Pisa. Tuscany is the land of Art and Culture, home to Leonardo, Galileo, Michelangelo whose homes, museums and masterpieces you'll be able to admire on a day trip from Podere Calza. Il Palio di Siena, a thrilling traditional horserace, takes place in the centre of Siena evry year in July and August. Tuscany is also famous for its red wines. On a day trip you can visit Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Scansano and why not Bolgheri. For those of you who love unspoilt nature, Maremma is but an hour away. The gorgeous Mediterranean coast is only 60 km away, with Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Follonica, La Carbonaia.

Perugia in Umbria is only 110 kms away.

We had a fabulous time - I would thoroughly recommend this cottage. We spent a few days just reading under the old oak tree in the garden (nice and peaceful), and the location is such that we were also able to visit Florence and Siena on day trips, so a nice mix of activities is possible here. Radicondolli itself is a charming medieval hilltop town and the food is well worth sampling at Il Nazionale restaurant. The only (very) slight disappointment was that the footpath to Radicondolli from the cottage is now overgrown so you either have to walk on the road or take the car to get there. Generally though - brilliant.
Recommended for:  Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway
