Private Villa with pool, near beaches, prestigious golf courses, historic towns

Between the sea and the sierras, this architect designed large private 3 bedroom modern villa, with infinity, razor edge, 11x5m, salt water swimming pool and gardens sits in harmony with the country surroundings.

The villa is light and airy throughout. Each bedroom and the living area has air conditioning unit with remote control, full length sliding glass/patio doors and shutters opening on to terraces/gardens.

Internet is provided by a wireless/mobile internet router and covers villa and grounds.

At the centre is the large 2½ floor entrance hall.

The large private master suite and gallery entrance occupies the first floor. The bedroom has a large double bed, and walk in wardrobe, east and west covered terraces, a full bathroom including a sunken bathtub and a separate walk in shower.

The private east bedroom suite has two bedrooms and a full bathroom. Bedroom 2 has a large double bed and faces south; bedroom 3 has two twin beds that can be pushed together. Each bedroom has its own terrace and garden view.

The open plan living and dining area is over a split level of 90m2. On the upper level is a large living and formal dining area, separated from the kitchen by a long elegant bar. There is a central fireplace between the upper and lower level living areas.

Outside:

There are many secluded areas within the gardens and villa to relax in, as well as the delightful infinity swimming pool which is set in a terrace of 100m2 and gardens.

For alfresco dining there is a barbecue area on the west side next to the kitchen with a dining area under a pergola. On the east side is a dining area with views towards the pool.

The spacious roof terrace, ideal for star gazing and away from it all sunbathing, is reached via the central staircase.

Sunbeds are on the pool terrace, the roof terrace and the lower lounge terraces, dining furniture on the east and west living room terraces, and a coffee table on the covered south terrace and on the master suite east terrace.

Infinity Swimming Pool

The fresh water swimming pool is treated with a salt water chlorinator and automatic ph control, which creates a soft water environment. At 11x5m the swimming pool is a good length to swim, or from the terrace or the pool ledge, to just enjoy the views across the gardens/grounds and the sound of water running over the razor-edge.

We have lived and worked internationally (Europe and North America), and enjoy living in the Algarve. Casa da Eira is a lovely house designed to be lived in and enjoyed. We rent it out during the summer months.

From November to May we are at Casa da Eira, and during this period we carry out maintenance and improvements, and try to have some time to enjoy the villa too!

Wendy purchased this villa in 2000

Both of us had enjoyed our visits to the Algarve and loved both the sea and the mountains. After viewing properties on the coast and in the mountains, we decided that we wanted to be on flattish land with views mostly of the hills/mountains, have access to beaches and enjoy some elements of Andalusia. As we would be in the Algarve for a lot of the year, we needed to be close to a local and multinational ex-pat community.

We found our ideal location: land with a gentle slope near a seasonal stream, with views to the hills/mountains, close to amenities and easy access to beaches. We worked with a local international architect to design Casa da Eira and infinity razor-edge swimming pool.

The villa is spacious and full of light, with views across the gardens and up to the hills/mountains.

There is a good natural circulation and flow.

The large kitchen (we enjoy cooking) is close to the dining areas so that the cook is still part of the group.

The master suite is private, spacious and light and airy with views (morning and evening sun).

The east bedroom suite is fabulous for friends or other members of the family to have their own private area.

Outside it is possible to enjoy private swimming and wondering around the garden at leisure with private and quiet corners to sit in.

The infinity/overflow pool is set in a relaxing ambience, the soft water makes it pleasant to swim in and the infinity edge allows views across the garden and encourages a feeling of freedom and peace.

The villa is in the eastern Algarve, and three airports are within a reasonable distance: Faro 35 minutes, Seville 2 hours, Lisbon 2 ¾ hours.

The villa is in the Barrocal region of Tavira: between the spectacular hills/mountains bordering the Alentejo and the sea. Within a few minutes it is possible to enjoy the beaches and Ria Formosa, the hills, towns, golf and further afield castles, water parks and zoo marine .

The area is well supported by a wide range of restaurants, local shops/supermarkets and several shopping/cinema complexes (Tavira, Faro Olhão). New release films arrive early in Portugal and are shown in the original language with Portuguese subtitles.

At the local weekday fresh food markets freshly caught fish, regional cheeses, seasonal fruits and vegetables, meats, breads, as well as artisan products such as honey, liquors, cakes and sweets, can be found.

There are around 3,000 hours of sunshine per year in the eastern Algarve, ideal to enjoy the outdoors.

BEACHES AND RIA FORMOSA NATURE RESERVE:

From the nearest beach, Fuzeta, to the Spanish Border there are 35 km of natural golden, sandy, uncrowded, beaches and the sea of the eastern Algarve is the warmest on the coastline. Favourite beaches such as those of the Ilha da Tavira, Cabanas, Estreita, are a short ferry boat ride from the main land; Barril is a short walk or a miniature train ride from the car park; Altura, Manta Rota and Monte Gordo have car parking next to the beach.

Most of the beaches are within the protected area of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which has an informative Visitors’ centre and water mill about 12 minutes from the villa. The Ria Formosa is also host to a large migratory bird population (like the National Park Cotô Doñana (Huelva, Spain)).

TAVRIA AND NEARBY:

The villa is close to Tavira, the jewel of the eastern Algarve. The city has a Roman Bridge, churches, museums, and interesting range of architecture, Torre Obscura, castle walls and views across the town and distinctive roofs. Tavira is a picturesque town which welcomes tourists and remains traditional Portuguese. Throughout the year there are music events and festivals and many more activities across the summer.

The historic city and regional capital of Faro is only 30 minutes away, and one route can take in Estoí with its Roman mosaics and summer palace gardens (now also a Pousada).

The road to the north, EN270 - 'Michelin green route' between Tavira/São Brás leads into the hills and villages of Loulé (Quarença, Alté, Salir), to the south is the Algarve coastal road, EN125, and the alternative EO1/A22 which stretches the Algarve to Seville.

CASTLES AND FURTHER AFIELD:

The castle and fort at Castro Marim, 25 minutes away, is worth a visit for the views across the River Guadiana alone - perhaps as a diversion en-route to the Spanish border town and beaches. At the end of August Castro Marim hosts a well-regarded medieval event.

Silves large castle/fort and museum to the time of the moors and the hills and spa town of Monchique are 1¼ hours to the west. To the north is the fort town of Mertola in the Alentejo.

The vibrant and historic cosmopolitan city of Seville, (tapas, operas, flamenco) is an easy 2 hours’ drive.

GOLF:

The villa is also centrally located for the prestigious golf courses in central and eastern Algarve.

Within 30 minutes of the villa are the many newer prestigious golf courses in the eastern Algarve, such as Quinta da Ria, Monte Rei (Jack Nicklaus), Quinta do Vale (Seve Ballesteros) and the established golf courses of the central Algarve, (Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo).

Even closer to the villa are the golf courses of Benamor and Colina Verde.

Spain (Huelva Province) is only 25 minutes away with a choice of several golf courses.
