This beachfront-apartment is situated on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados. The spacious and well fit out accommodation harmoniously blends contemporary amenities with antique mahogany furniture: An ideal place to unwind in Caribbean atmosphere, a romantic getaway for couples, but also well suited for a family holiday.

The condominium is separated from the beach by a small road with local traffic only.

Ground floor:

(i) large modern Italian kitchen where 4-6 can dine;

(ii) nice bedroom with two twin beds, AC and ceiling fan; (iii) small patio (ideal for breakfast), flowers, external shower.

Upper floor:

(i) pleasant bedroom with queen size bed, AC+ceiling fan; (ii) modern en suite bathroom, with a second access to the (iii) living room with its comfortable seating, sofa-bed, WiFi, Smart TV, DVD, radio, music dock (apple, bluetooth & cable connect), book shelves, ceiling fan.

The unhurried, relaxing atmosphere continues to the (iv) covered, large balcony, fitted with a large sun shade, two sun-loungers, and a table with four chairs. The balcony is ideal for dining al fresco.

From the balcony of the apartment you have a direct view of the azure Caribbean sea looking southwest and northwest. In between is a small house, that obstructs a small part of the view.

Beaches: North of Speightstown you have the long Heywoods beach, part of it just over the road from the apartment; there are two palm trees and a large bush giving some shade. In just 5 minutes walking distance to the north along the coast you reach the long beach near the Almond Beach Resort with many trees providing shadow, and the beach of Port St. Charles; south of Speightstown is the famous Mullins Beach and many others further to the south. We also love the beach south of the Lone Star Hotel (excellent but expensive dining) with access from the Adventist church. The Folkestone Park in Holetown is another beach with shadow and good snorkeling in the reef.

Please remember: All beaches are open to the public and access is a right for everybody. Properties which front onto a beach own the land to the high-water mark only. So you can stroll and relax along the beach even in front of very expensive hotels. We provide for our guests a large and a small sun umbrella, two foldable beach loungers, different small beach chairs, beach towels.

Golf courses: Famous golf courses are in easy driving distance (Royal Westmoreland, Sandy Lane), but there are many other ones.

Visits: see North Point (Flower Cave) and the Scotland District with Bathsheba on the East Coast, offering breathtaking views of the ocean. Drive southwards to the Barbadian heritage Codrington College. Harrison's Cave in the center of the island is an amazing gallery of stalactites and stalagmites. See Orchid World, or Wildlife Preserve, or ......

Visit also the 300-year-old Sunbury Plantation House, the only great house on Barbados where all the rooms are open for viewing. This house features mahogany antiques, old prints and a unique collection of horse-drawn carriages.

Highly interesting is a visit of the Mount Gay rum distillery in Bridgetown, where you learn how rum is made from sugar cane and you can shop the probably best rum of Barbados at a good price. Visit also the Sugar Museum, just off Highway 2A, an exhibition of how sugar was produced in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Portvale Sugar Factory nearby seems to be only slightly younger.....

VISIT BARBADOS DURING THE FIRST WEEK IN AUGUST, THE PEAK OF THE CROP OVER FESTIVAL.

Eating, drinking, and related enjoyments: The ''La Bouche' restaurant, and 'Fishermans Pub' are just 5 min walking south of the apartment and offer good and fairly priced food or a pleasant drink. Very good is the 'Orange Street Grocer' close to the apartment (dinner only on Friday evening), and the Lobster Pot (somewhat higher priceds) as well as 'Juma´s' restaurant, and next to it 'L`Attitude' beach bar and grill. Last not least, good and very affordable, the 'Island Plates' restaurant on the eastern side of the Market Place (opposite Jordan`s supermarket).

Higher priced restaurants with a very pleasant atmosphere are the Fish Pot, on the sea, 2 km north of the apartment, and the Lone Star Restaurant in direction of Holetown. Very good is also the restaurant/bar Zaccios in Holetown. BA says, its the third best beach bar in the whole world ....

In Bathsheba: Round House, and the new Atlantis Hotel.

You should visit the capital Bridgetown and sip a cocktail or dine at the Waterfront Cafe (yacht harbor near old bridge). After this go Shopping in the nearby area on the other side of the harbor (High Street, Broad Street, Cheapside and side streets).

Each Friday and Saturday night hundreds of locals and visitors go to Oistins for the Fish-Fry, an opportunity to enjoy the best local food - fried and grilled fish, fish cakes, sweet potato, and much more. Be early to find a parking place.

For farm fresh produce and more besides, try the Saturday morning Brighton Farmers Market at Brighton Plantation, tel. 429 2639, in the St George Valley. Run by owners Michael and Alison Pile on their 17th century plantation, it has become an extremely popular social outing for families. A children’s play area has been added, along with a large number of picnic tables on the lawns and a café area serving freshly brewed coffee. Stalls are normally up and ready to go by 6am (open until about 10 am) and offer a wide range of homemade produce from bread and cakes to Thai spring rolls, pickles and chutneys, meat pies, sweets and jams, plus local artwork, jewelry and handicrafts.

About Maria or Thilo

We are both university professors traveling a lot. We were looking for a safe harbor in a quiet area and found it in Speightstown.

Why Maria or Thilo chose Speightstown

We stayed many years in Barbados and preferred always the west coast as compared to the crowded south, where the ocean waves are often high. Our property is facing the beach of the so called 'platinum coast', the area has quite some tourism but is not at all crowded by tourists. Expensive properties like Port St. Charles are in walking distance.

What makes this apartment unique

An ideal place to unwind in real Caribbean atmosphere, a romantic getaway for couples, but also well suited for a family holiday. The apartment is quite large and well equipped with modern and antique mahogany furniture.

We bought and ate a lot of fish. So fresh and affordable. Also rotis, the pea filled type, and pork hocks’ stew (in a blackish sauce) at the FISHERMAN PUB that was great. The crop over steel pan festival at Brandon Beach was a once in a lifetime thrill.

Clean, near supermarkets and banks, off street parking and best thing was the weather, sun shining and the blue sea from balcony.

Great location, suite, and management

Stayed with my wife and 1 year old for 6 weeks and had a wonderful time from January 2, 2014 - February 18, 2014. Perfect location, pace, and unit for us. I easily kept in touch with my business via the high speed internet and desk and the 2 BRs were very comfortable with AC and common area perfect for relaxing and hosting guests. Large kitchen with everything you need. We loved the gated room in the front for leaving strollers, beach gear, etc. We ate pretty much every meal on the 2nd floor deck which has great panoramic views of the Caribbean. The beach in front was perfect for a quick dip even while our baby was napping. Some even better beaches were a 5-10 minute walk away and some great restaurants and 2-3 grocery stores are also in walking distance. Speightstown was perfect for us as it is a quiet, friendly town with everything you need in walking distance and a fun bus ride or cab ride to Holetown and more great beaches and experiences on the south coast. Thanks to Thilo and Maria for their professionalism and for sharing this beautiful home. Also thanks to Sonja for doing such a great job managing the space as it really felt clean, organized, and like home. We highly recommend this amazing gem!

We constantly try to adapt the place to high standards, also because we stay ourselves two to three months per year in the apartment and want it to be nice and comfortable. Our Bosch washing machine and dryer got, for instance recently a companion, a new dishwasher of the same brand.

Home from home on the west coast

We went to see this apartment a year before we stayed there, whilst on an earlier holiday. When we arrived it was even better than we remembered. All published photos are accurate.

The apartment is opposite an almost deserted beach, which we used every day. We followed Thilo's instructions and ensured we had swimming shoes, as the walk into the water is a little rocky in parts. Lots of beach equipment in the apartment - towels, umbrella, chairs, loungers.

Inside the apartment is really well appointed. The kitchen has everything you might have at home, including excellent (and nearly new) Bosch appliances.

Organisation and communication before we arrived was quick and easy - the owners respond promptly to emails and are very helpful. Sonja, the caretaker, was there to meet I.s, and is both friendly and helpful.

We hope to return next year, it's a great "home from home"!

The perfect holiday

We had a wonderful time in Speightstown! The flat was optimal, furnishing and equipment were so practically as we would equip our own flat. Especially the big fridge with an icecube-dispenser....The flat we found exact as it was described. It was very clean and Sonja, the caretakerin, was very nice. We have been 2 adults, but we can imagine, that the flat is big enough for 2 more people. The beach is directly in front, we always took only a towel and went dressed only with swimming-suit for a bath. In the evening it was nice to sit on the balcony and watch the sunset. Very closed to the flat we found everything we needed, shops, supermarket, restaurants and a diving-center. What is to say about the restaurants? We didn`t find a really good one, the offer is the same everywhere. The guidebook told us that Fishermans Pub is the most famous one. We have been there some time. The food was nice, it is like a buffett, especially the relation between quality and price is very ok. And the owner Clement was a funny guy. Take care with the Rumpunch, better stop after the second before it becomes dangerous... We have rented a car for the whole 2 weeks, this is not necessary, but for us it was comfortable, for shopping, trips and to go to the diving-boat (only 2 minutes by car). Sometime we made a trip by car, this was adventure, because there are not really signs in the road, in any case not in the parts, where we have been. We tried to make a complet surrounding of the island, but it was difficult to find the right road. Finally we found the cave, extra on the day we have been travelling all roads where closed for a Rally. But so we have left something to do for the next time... The diving-center "Reefers and wreckers" is diagonally opposite. We have been the most time on the boat, they offer 2-tank-dives. The diving was really phantastic, nice staff, a quick boat and wonderful divesites with healthy reefs and lot of fish. Ok., on Barbados is nothing special to do or to be seen, but we are sure to come back for relaxing and diving, we really had a great time! Elke and Bernd from Germany

Perhaps next time they try in addition to Fisherman´s Pub also other restaurants in Speightstown, which have fresh food, not a buffet lunch, and which are only 5-15 minutes away by foot: Island Plates, Yuma´s Restaurant, L´Attitude Beach Bar, Bo´s Place, Orange Street Grocer, La Bouche Wine Bar. See also the listing of good restaurants in Speightstown at Trip Advisor. We totally agree, that when driving on the small roads of the island it is often not easy to find the right way, often one needs eagles eyes to see the small signs, if they are present at all. A good map is highly recommended, because many signs indicate some living quarters which are not on every map. But the island is small, it is not possible to get lost, and some adventure is always nice to find new places. The maps given by the renting companies are usually not very detailed, it is advisable to bring your own map with you or store one on an iPad or similar device. Maria & Thilo

Comfortable accommodation in a great location.

Coral Sands Apartment is exactly as described by Thilo and Maria. It is well-equipped and comfortable and Speightstown is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday.

We arrived in Barbados a day early and had to meet my sister at the airport on the day we moved into Coral Sands. So the logistics were challenging, with the car full of our own luggage and the prospect of having to accommodate my sister's stuff as well. I emailed Thilo beforehand and he arranged for us to meet with Sonja early in the day of our move-in to facilitate things. She cleaned one of the rooms early and allowed us to leave our luggage there and then she agreed to put all our groceries away after she had finished cleaning. So we were able to go to the airport with an empty car and all our grocery shopping done well before our actual move-in time.

The apartment was very well-equipped with beach chairs and umbrellas, towels, snorkeling gear, as well as everything you would expect. There was a minor problem with the parking garage access (a failed battery), but Thilo responded immediately to my email and it was quickly settled.

Sonja was wonderful! She showed up twice a week (although she is in the complex almost every day at other apartments) and she was always quick to offer advice and assistance on local matters.

Speightstown is delightful, very different from the main tourist areas. The people are open and friendly and it is a bit like Barbados must have been years ago. There are some good restaurants, all identified by Thilo and Maria in their comprehensive information package, and shopping is nearby. The bakery in particular is worth mentioning, it's products are excellent and it is open for very long hours, even on Sunday.

Don't miss Island Plates for lunch or breakfast and L'Attitude is good for dinner, as is Bo's Plaice.

The Coral Sands apartment is situated on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados, overlooking the white, sandy beach, where you can swim, snorkel or dive.   • Both quiet bedrooms are breezy due to two windows on different sides of the rooms, but also air conditioned. In addition, a fan on the ceiling is present. Different wardrobes provide ample space for clothing. The master bedroom on the first floor has as a queen size bed, and an en suite bathroom with second door to living room. The bedroom on the ground floor has two single beds. A small WC is next to it. An additional sofa bed for two is in the living room. The apartment is ideal to accommodate four persons, but six are possible as well.
