Photos and Description of the Beja region vacation chateau / country house rental One hour from Faro and Lisbon airports. 40 mins from Alentejo beaches.

Set in a little village, in a beautiful unspoilt countryside. Spacious self-catering country house, 5 bedrooms, 4 with ensuite bathrooms. Big garden surrounded by walls. Swimming pool with sheltered pool house equiped for meals with extra fridge, dishwasher and barbecue. Groceries, fresh bread, fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese and local sausages are sold in the local store or delivered daily by salesmen that come to the doorway. The property built in 1889, comprises two houses: the main house and a cottage that have been restored to its original appearance using traditional materials, that preserve the indoor temperature cool in the summer and cozy in winter. The typical old town of Messejana is 5 km away, Also 5kms away you have the “Monte da Rocha” lake, where you can swim, and practice non-motorised water sports. Nearby, around 15kms, you have the bigger towns of Aljustrel, Castro Verde and Ourique with historic and cultural sites. 45 km from stunning beaches of Alentejo coast.

Aldeia da Conceição is 5 km away from the typical old town of Messejana, where you can find restaurants, newspapers, a bank, a drugstore and other kind of stores. Also 5kms away you have the “Monte da Rocha” lake, where you can swim, fish, and practice non-motorised water sports. Further away, approximately 15kms, you have the bigger towns of Aljustrel, Castro Verde and Ourique with historic and cultural sites: castles, churches, museums and pre-historical sites. The magnificent coastal beaches of Alentejo are 45 km of empty roads away. The Algarve coastline is situated less than 80 km south. Lisbon is only 170 km (1,5hours drive) by motorway. Faro is 1 hour driving by motorway. A car is recommended to fully enjoy the area. Look for Ourique, Castro Verde, Aljustrel, Messejana, Panoias, Lake 'Monte da Rocha', all near Beja, in rural unspoilt countryside.

Daily maid service can be arranged.

Casa da Torre: Casa da Torre is a seducing small rural white manor house, surrounded by walls, at the edge of a small village, where we are welcomed and pampered by the locals. It is a refugee for our big family and friends, although only 1 1/2 hours from Lisbon, it makes us feel we are far far away. The buildings and decoration somehow remind us of North Africa. The unspoilt surroundings – like the working windmill – makes us feel in the early XXth century! Built in 1889 by wealthy farmers the house was recently recovered using traditional materials (taipa), that preserve the indoor temperature cool in the summer and cozi in winter. Since its purchase 4 yrs ago we have slowly restored it to its original appearance, taking in account the comforts of today's living standards.

The house has absolutely all that you might need.

The owner is a true problem solver and always available for tips and to facilitate the stay.

We've been going away as a group on these trips for over ten years now, and the villa was the best we have stayed in - loads of room, nice pool, and a well-equipped kitchen which we put to good use.

Everyone in the village was very friendly, and the whole area is so peaceful and relaxing - quiet roads and loads of opportunities for bird-watching.

Many thanks to Jorge for making our trip so enjoyable - I will definitely think about returning to the area in the future - and of course if I do, Casa da Torra will be top of my list of places to stay.
