Little Bird In Big Country
My wife and I are from the big city of Los Angeles. Our stay at Little Bird Cottage was the right choice for a couple of tired, haggard, overworked minions suffering from urbanitis. We wanted all the peace and tranquility of the California countryside, but didn't want to give up on any of our citified creature comforts. The cottage is a large studio size (approx. 15 X 20 ft.) space with a well-equipped kitchen, private bathroom and sitting area in addition to the comfy queen size bed w/ potbelly stove/heater. We were warm and cozy at night and awakened to abundant sunshine streaming through many windows with eye-catching views. We lacked for nothing and we were provided chocolates, wine, fruit, friendly smiles and hospitality from our hosts, Ken and Kathy. More than kind people, they sensed our need for privacy and serenity, but close enough in case we needed anything. They left us a basket of champagne and chocolate on New Year's Eve and decorated the front of the cottage with festive holiday lighting that added the perfect touch to our seasonal vacation. And the cable was great for college football access.
The surrounding Sebastopol community was so scenic that we wanted to soak in as much as we could. We travelled everywhere by bike and discovered the little towns of Graton and Forestville. Kathy knew we biked, so she left us a bicycle guidebook which proved indispensable to our trekking. Graton has two great places to eat, Underwood and Wildwood Market, but the closest best place to eat is in Sebastopol at K & L Bistro. It's French, it's reasonably priced, and it's got a Michelin STAR! Sometimes we didn't want to miss football games, so we got take-out. Sequoia Burger makes the freshest burger, the fries are formidable, and Viva Mexicana is to beans as Sonoma is to grapes. After two days of biking our immediate area we were ready to branch out a bit. We took our bikes to other outlying towns. Everything around is close to Sebastopol. It's the hub of all the best places including Sonoma, Windsor, Glen Ellen, Healdsburg, Bodega Bay, Kenwood, and Santa Rosa. We loved all of them and look forward to returning in the spring.
