I can't say enough about this home !! We loved it ! We had are wedding Nearby and had some out of state family and Friends Stay with us hear and it was just Fantastic!!! The Home owners were great to work with , Family from out of state are talking about putting something together next year for 3 weeks there. 5 star for me ....
We spent six days here with our three adult children, their spouses and our six grandchildren (ages 1 through 10). The house was setup perfect for the 14 of us. We had no problem finding things in the house and we loved the spaciousness - 14 people could probably grate on nerves if we had to be bunched up somewhere. The dock was fabulous and we caught some nice fish off of it. Kudos to the Sweeneys for having such a great place for a family to vacation.
Fantastic home for a group or family get away or long weekend. Lots of room and great views!! The huge deck is awesome. Great kitchen and sitting areas are everywhere! Short boat ride on the water taxi across the lake to restaurants and bars. Shady Gators is great. The area is more quiet than you would think. Fairly long drive to all golf courses except 1. The owner promptly replied to all request and questions. We had a great time!!
This house is probably one of the more spectacular available for rent on the lake. The open layout of the main floor is wonderful for large groups, allowing them to splinter apart and merge together as desired; this is an awesome family reunion house. The whole main floor is airy; photos do not do it justice. All rooms save the bathrooms have commanding views of the Horseshoe Bend area of the lake and well towards the dam. Facing east, the decks are in shade in the afternoon and so nice even when it is fairly hot. The kitchen is well appointed (though FYI, the 4-burner stove is electric) and comes with a huge number of glasses and plates. Downstairs second fridge a plus. The A/C kept the house cool despite high heat. The manager (owner's son) was quick to respond to our requests and questions. House was clean and ready to go when we arrived (though carpets have stains).
The downside of this property is directly tied to its upside. Bedrooms get quite bright at sunrise. Facing the main channel means that the water at the dock gets *very* choppy in the afternoon and evening; there are nearby coves that are much calmer. Winds from the east make for a lot of excitement. Guest tie-ups are on the sides of the dock, where cleats are poorly spaced and much of the rubber facing on the dock edges is coming up, revealing nails and bare wood and metal. Our rental boat was damaged by bouncing against an uncovered metal brace on the dock--with care, we avoided more damage, but some maintenance would be welcome. Similarly, the decking is in need of a major refinish (it appears the owner is working on this). Because you face a major lakeside bar complex a mile across the lake, you can hear their music on busy nights (not overwhelming, but noticeable).
Be sure both main floor thermostats are set the same--each controls A/C for that side of the house (if one is off, rooms on that side may get toasty). Because of the very open design, the two upstairs bedrooms will tend to be somewhat warmer, the three basement bedrooms cooler--plan accordingly. Many exterior lights are controlled from near the pantry, which can be a surprise. Glass tabletops in main area are not attached to base--caution with kids is advised.
Being on the west side, the big tourist area is a drive, though a movie theater is close by and Laurie isn't too far. We ate in--with the comforts here, why not? We spent a lot of time on (and in) the lake, including checking out the little island nearby.
