Lovely cottage in the heart of Rottingdean

  • 5 of 5
Northgate Cottage is a roomy property situated within easy walking distance of the Rottingdean pubs, restaurants and beach. We would especially recommend the Plough and the Queen Victoria. Rottingdean has "open all hours" Tesco Extra and Coop supermarkets. There are also very frequent buses from Rottingdean to Brighton and Eastbourne (parking in Brighton is very difficult). The cottage is clean, well equiped and well maintained. The owner is nearby and was very helpful. The free WIFI is useful and the cottage has an adjacent private parking slot.
We would recommend this property for a long or short break in the area.

Attractive, clean and tidy cottage.

  • 4 of 5
When my family and I stayed at Northgate cottage in February during the half term holiday this year, we had a lovely time. The cottage is situated in an ideal location for our needs and was superbly clean and had a well- equipped fridge with a small loaf of bread, eggs and milk when we arrived, this really helped us as we arrived late at night when all the shops were closed.
This is an attractive cottage, conveniently located with a closed garden area. Although the property is close to the main road, it is very quiet, and the 7 minute wander to the local shops on the high street was a pleasure, and we had a picnic at the nearby Kipling garden, which is only a 2 minute walk from the cottage.
The inside of the cottage was nicely decorated, it was clean and comfortable, the bathroom upstairs looked new, with tiles not carpeted. The kitchen area was clean and tidy. All the rooms are spacious, with clean sheets and a selection of DVDs, Books, toys/games for the family.
The owner was friendly and approachable, he told us about the local playground with a tennis court, which we frequented many times.
We have already recommended the cottage to our friends and we would definitely stay there again, if we were ever in the Brighton area of Sussex.

We had a great time at this cottage and we were made to feel very welcome. Mum was able to spend precious time with all the family. The website was very useful and we were able to arrange a late booking within a couple of days of arrival. We would like to vist Rottingdean again. This is an ideal location.

Spacious cottage situated in a lovelly area.

  • 2 of 5
The 200 year old cottage was very spacious, and had home from home facillities. The furniture was good quality, and modern. The only down fall was it needed a good spring clean. There were several points I was not happy with, but it did not spoil our stay. The cottage needs alot of TLC to the decor upstairs too. In the instructions we were warned that the shower can cause a leake because of how it is situated at the edge of the slanted ceiling. There was a shower door, and a curtain, and we were very careful to make sure the curtain was firmly accross so as not to cause a spillage. There was definate evidence on the carpet that a previous leakage had occured. In the bathroom cabinet there was a much used sponge for cleaning and also a 'personal' bottle from Ann Summers. Both of these items should have been removed! The clock in one bedroom did not work, and also the bed side lamp had to be placed just right to work!

In the wardrobe in the bedroom there was a penny on the floor, so that was obvious evidence that a thorough clean-up had not been done on change over. On our final day, I checked the wardrobe to make sure I had not left anything, and at the very bottom was a pair of gents underpants in the far corner, which did not belong to us! I don't live in conditions like this at home, and I do not expect to pay to have to live like that on my annual holiday.

I managed to speak to the owner the day after our arrival, to point out a few things, which he returned and hoovered through (which wasn't necessary as we had not been there 24 hours!).

I would definately recomed the area as Rottendean is a lovelly village, but I would not recommend this cottage. It is situated on the main road too, so there is a lot of traffic noise.

Owner's Response: Our guests had a series of complaints about the cottage in addition to what has been written here. We addressed the complaint immediately on the day of arrival by re-cleaning throughout and set to satisfy the specific items of their complaint. We removed a stain on a place mat, removed several crumbs from a cutlery drawer, a cobweb from a venetian blind, some residue behind a tap, and removed two chairs that had worn leather. We wiped water marks from the oven door and rearranged the cupboards to allow better access to the crockery.

Unfortunately, we did not have time to buy a new fridge or redecorate the stairway. This we pledge to do at the end of the season.
