There's an outdoor swing (for all ages), a trellis clothesline which you can light up and enjoy in the evenings. (The switch is on the inside the cottage.), a outdoor shower, and a Hot Tub and all in a beautifully landscaped yard.
The cottage's personality-filled rooms hold a variety of 1940s and '50s unique collections, a large collection of movies to enjoy and an array of books for you to read.
HISTORIC BIRDIE'S COTTAGE:
Walk down the stone pathway and smell the roses and other flowers in bloom. Take a minute to listen and smell the nearby ocean.
When you open the door to the cottage you are in for a treat! High gloss white paint covers the wood walls in the living room making it light and airy. A secret door in the living room holds snow domes on glass shelves, collected abroad and around the USA.
This is the heart of Birdie's Cottage: collections of souvenirs and memories displayed in every room of this special home. One knotty pine wall displays the unusual souvenir wooden sign plaques originally found in almost every souvenir shop across the USA from the early 1930s until the late 1950s. These gems are recycled gifts made from thin slices of tree stumps. Most have funny sayings on them along with a stamp or decal naming the location where they were sold.
Comfortable seating, a green enamel gas fireplace, original artwork, books to read, movies to watch; everything you need to make yourself at home.
The kitchen is filled with modern appliances nestled in with charming collections from the 40s and 50s. Fully equipped with a dishwasher, a coffeemaker, a microwave and all the other necessary kitchen equipment. You just supply the food! And the gas stove/oven is a workhorse!
In the Twin Bedroom there is a reading library. And if anyone wants to see a children's movie just open the bottom dresser drawer. You'll be able to select from over a dozen of the best Disney's films ever made. Lots of games and board games in this bedroom.
The Double Bed Bedroom has a comfy bed surrounded by paint-by-numbers hung on the wall. The bench in this bedroom has 2 purposes, one to allow guests to sit on it and two, to open up the bench seat and select one of over 200 DVDs and VHS movies! There are even more movies under the bench.
This is Historic Birdie's Cottage, a very special place in Seaside. We welcome you!

We are a Portland Architect and a Portland Artist who have owned Birdie's Cottage and Scout's Cottage since 1978. The two homes were built in the early 1920s and were part of a motel with drive-in units. Sadly, all but the main house and the laundry/fish cleaning unit survived after a fire erupted one night. We rescued them from being demolished by the City of Seaside and the two of us started working to restore them.
We focused on honoring their past and providing modern conveniences to make our guests feel welcomed and comfortable. We now proudly share them with you.
