HISTORIC BIRDIE'S COTTAGE, HOT TUB, 1 BLK TO BEACH, 1.5 BLKS TO PROMENADE/RIVER

Seaside Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Immaculate, Delightful Little Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Please take a moment to read our current TRAVELER REVIEWS and you'll understand why our cottage will be perfect for your upcoming visit!

Cozy and Charming! Perfect for up to three seeking a relaxing, special and immaculate little home to nestle in and enjoy all the benefits of being in a wonderful Seaside environment!

Located next to Historic Scout's Cottage (VRBO listing,#405286), both cottages are available to rent and will accommodate up to 10 guests.

Irresistible, immaculate and fun. This unique little vacation home and the landscaped yard have been beautifully maintained for 36 years by their owners, a Portland Architect and Portland Artist.

Historic Birdie's Cottage is located on a quiet deadend street. However, within minutes you can be at the beach (1 block), on the Promenade (1.5 blocks), fishing and crabbing at the River (1.5 blocks). The Convention Center and downtown are within walking distance or a 2-4 minute drive.

Close to Astoria and Cannon Beach. Gearhart, a charming little village, is 3 minutes away from your front door.

This charming all-seasons retreat includes a one-of-a-kind cottage with special collections, original artwork, an amazing fully equipped galley kitchen, gas fireplace, and two bedrooms.

There's an outdoor swing (for all ages), a trellis clothesline which you can light up and enjoy in the evenings. (The switch is on the inside the cottage.), a outdoor shower, and a Hot Tub and all in a beautifully landscaped yard.

The cottage's personality-filled rooms hold a variety of 1940s and '50s unique collections, a large collection of movies to enjoy and an array of books for you to read.

HISTORIC BIRDIE'S COTTAGE:

Walk down the stone pathway and smell the roses and other flowers in bloom. Take a minute to listen and smell the nearby ocean.

When you open the door to the cottage you are in for a treat! High gloss white paint covers the wood walls in the living room making it light and airy. A secret door in the living room holds snow domes on glass shelves, collected abroad and around the USA.

This is the heart of Birdie's Cottage: collections of souvenirs and memories displayed in every room of this special home. One knotty pine wall displays the unusual souvenir wooden sign plaques originally found in almost every souvenir shop across the USA from the early 1930s until the late 1950s. These gems are recycled gifts made from thin slices of tree stumps. Most have funny sayings on them along with a stamp or decal naming the location where they were sold.

Comfortable seating, a green enamel gas fireplace, original artwork, books to read, movies to watch; everything you need to make yourself at home.

The kitchen is filled with modern appliances nestled in with charming collections from the 40s and 50s. Fully equipped with a dishwasher, a coffeemaker, a microwave and all the other necessary kitchen equipment. You just supply the food! And the gas stove/oven is a workhorse!

In the Twin Bedroom there is a reading library. And if anyone wants to see a children's movie just open the bottom dresser drawer. You'll be able to select from over a dozen of the best Disney's films ever made. Lots of games and board games in this bedroom.

The Double Bed Bedroom has a comfy bed surrounded by paint-by-numbers hung on the wall. The bench in this bedroom has 2 purposes, one to allow guests to sit on it and two, to open up the bench seat and select one of over 200 DVDs and VHS movies! There are even more movies under the bench.

This is Historic Birdie's Cottage, a very special place in Seaside. We welcome you!

About Kay Slusarenko

We are a Portland Architect and a Portland Artist who have owned Birdie's Cottage and Scout's Cottage since 1978. The two homes were built in the early 1920s and were part of a motel with drive-in units. Sadly, all but the main house and the laundry/fish cleaning unit survived after a fire erupted one night. We rescued them from being demolished by the City of Seaside and the two of us started working to restore them.

We focused on honoring their past and providing modern conveniences to make our guests feel welcomed and comfortable. We now proudly share them with you.

Absolute Perfection

  • 5 of 5
Not only was the cabin exceptionally clean, it was the perfect place to spend the weekend with my wife. We had a great time digging through the games and DVDs in the evening, soaking in the hot tub, and drinking wine under the lights in the backyard before heading down to the beach (two blocks away) for a evening fire and some smores.

Birdie's was in the perfect spot. Not too close to the beach, and not too far from town. We were able to walk everywhere for coffee, arcade games, bumper cars, and lunch at a nearby fish house.

Simply put, we can't wait to get back out there for our next vacation!

Owner's Response: Hi Jake,
I'm so pleased that you were able to visit Seaside and stay at Birdie's Cottage. Thank you for your praise of the cottage. This has been another fabulous summer with the BEST guests! We feel privileged to have so many visitors from near (Portland) and far (Montreal) stay in our two cottages. And to have such great descriptions of how they enjoyed their stay is very rewarding for Ron and me. Please hurry back! Kay

Cottage of Perfection

  • 5 of 5
I have to say, Birdie's Cottage is absolutely the most quaint little spot in Seaside, tucked away just a block and a half from the beach! It is bright and cheery and was decorated with such care and personal touches. I loved every inch of it. Also, I would venture to say it has to be the cleanest spot in Seaside! Everything "sparkles and shines" ! Absolutely immaculate. It was stocked with just about anything and everything you could hope to find to make it your home away from home. My only regret is, we weren't able to stay longer!
So very convenient to the beach, shops and restaurants, too! If you have the good fortune of visiting Seaside, be sure to grab a fabulous breakfast at Patti's Wicker Cafe just off Broadway by the bridge.
We appreciate the opportunity to have stayed in Birdie's Cottage and appreciate the owners. They were so easy to deal with and take all the time in the world to answer any questions you might have. I truly enjoyed our chats. We will be back!!!

There's no place like Birdie's!

There's no place like Birdie's!
  • 5 of 5
To say my family & I were excited to go to Seaside for our 1st ever Summer Vacation would be an understatement. I visited Seaside for the 1st time 20 years ago as a teenager with my parents and so when it came time to decide where to go to commemorate my 5 year old daughers last summer before kindergarten started, Seaside was an easy choice. We knew we wanted a place to stay that was more than just a hotel. We needed a home away from home, just on the beach!

I have to say, Birdie's cottage delivered on this completely. When we first pulled up to the cottage, our 2 girls immediately ran for the swing attached to the tree in the backyard and begged to be pushed. While I found the key and unpacked our bags, my wife & kids were busily exploring the backyard & taking turns letting mom push them in the swing.

As the cottage is over 100 years old, the pride of ownership shows throughout. Everything was in fine working order & we wanted for nothing. Kitchen was fully stocked with all implements & we were pretty much able to cook anything we desired. In fact, we didn't eat out a single meal while in Seaside, simply because we enjoyed dining in the backyard, cooking on the grill and letting the girls run around while we got things ready.

Location wise it was perfect. You are 5 minutes from both the Promenade & the beach while walking & maybe 7 minutes from Safeway in a car (depending on traffic and/or the massive amount of fun loving people that show up for the Hood to Coast relay. You can even walk to one of the local bike shops & rent a Surry for just $15 an hour to ride around town in.

Bottom line is that I would highly recommend this property to other families with children or even someone looking for a romantic getaway. The small quarters brought us closer as a family while we played checkers & watched movies while the great location gave us instant access to the beach, kite flying, swimming, sand castles & every thing else Seaside is known for.

We will be back for sure!

Owner's Response: Dear Kyle, What a response! I was thrilled to read your review. Ron and I are now in our 70s and this is our full-time job now. To make sure that our two vacation rentals are as excellent as we can make them. We take such pride in providing an immaculate and interesting, cozy home to stay and play in. We named our little business, Seaside Wonderland, and I believe Seaside is just that! It is magical for children, fun for teenagers and for adults of all ages, it is filled with every kind of activity (I include eating at great restaurants and doing nothing except relaxing in this category) you can think of!
I can't wait for you and especially your daughters to revisit in the future. Don't forget we have Scout's Cottage as well.

A wonderful way to spend my birthday weekend with my other half! It's a cute as it is in the pictures if not more! Great or walking to the beach and ending up in town or just hanging out in the lovely hot tub. Great mini girls getaway as well!

Exceptionally maintained in a wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is exactly as advertised. I am almost hesitant to give it another great review or we may end up making it too popular!

That said, this one should be on the top of your list if you are visiting Seaside. The location is perfect, easy quick walk to the beach. Easily within walking distance of all the shops on the "Prom". Huge yard if you plan on having a family gathering and a hot tub to relax in the evening.

Kay and Ron have gone all out to provide visitors with directions on the best sights to see along the Oregon coast even sending out newsletters. Birdies cabin has a great history, and the cabin was very well-maintained and clean. These fine folks went WAY above and beyond for us on our visit and we are happy to count them as new friends. We're looking forward to our next visit and plan on staying here, or Scout's cabin next door.

40th Anniversary celebrated the best way ever!

  • 5 of 5
My husband & I recently spent a wonderful weekend @ Birdie's Cottage celebrating our 40th anniversary. We began our married life together honeymooning at the beach and felt it was a good choice to be by the shore again. Birdie's Cottage is the most incredible place I have ever stayed. Not that I've traveled that much, but it was the loving comfy touches of the cottage that made it such a memorable trip. The collections of postcards, vintage decorations, the linens, and the HISTORY of Oregon were unique and an incredible gift...not what you would find at an average rental. The cozy backyard gave us such a perfect place to relax and enjoy our time. We can hardly wait until we have the chance to return!
Birdie's Cottage is a meticulously kept 1910 bungalow, chocked full of things to make your trip to the beach even better. I would/will and have recommend this cottage to all. The care Kay takes in preparing your trip (newsletter listing all area activities, "bests of" etc.) and the amenities once you get there make relaxing pretty darn easy!
