We offer a furnished two-room space with a private bathroom for extended stays--ideally six months or longer. The accommodations are ideal for those in DC for short- or long-term business assignments or those re-locating who want to take time to get familiar with the area for locking themselves into a lease.
LOCATION: quiet, safe neighborhood on DC's red line Metro. From there, Union Station, in downtown DC, is a 20-minute metro ride. We are about a 14-minute walk from the red line Metro stop, but free 5-minute door-to-Metro taxi shuttle service is provided by us 7am to 10pm as well. A 15-minute RideOn Route 34 bus gets you to NIH, while any of Metro buses Q1, Q2, Q4, Q5, & Q6 get you to downtown (northern) Rockville without a wait. Downtown Silver Spring (AIRP theater, etc.) is only a couple metro stops away. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is 28 minutes due to a transfer. For most destinations east of Dupont Circle, our east side of the U-shaped red line is better because it is still very safe and the west side gets 'sardined' during rush hour. (The number of east- and west--bound cars is exactly the same, but the population density is a bit lower here, and the time you wait for the next train if a car is already 100% full isn’t counted by Metro’s otherwise excellent door-to-door travel time calculator website.) We are a 6- to 10-minute walk to more than 80 restaurants and 16 bars.
The two-room space includes one room with a queen bed, bedside table, comfy chair, large writing desk, dresser, minifridge, microwave, and a 39-inch LCD HDTV with a quad-core computer, wireless keyboard, and mouse. The other room has a queen bed, side chair, a desk with chair, a dresser, a microwave, and a minifridge. The two-room space includes a private bathroom. You'd have full access to the kitchen which has a guest fridge and freezer, flatware, cooking utensils, etc. and a 65-inch HDTV with an XBox. Guests get unlimited wired and wireless fast internet (35 Mbits/s up & down fiber optic link; about 1000x faster than dialup), a cordless phone with unlimited inbound and outbound phone calls to anywhere in the entire world, printer access, and many other perks. Some freebies not at hotels but that our guests also get:
o Better security. Room-specific keys. No low-salaried maid could have access to your un-backed up laptop. No hassles with tiny safes.
o Wired internet option.
o Over 500 premium and regular TV channels of which over 100 are uncompressed 1080i surround sound HD, all with automatic rewind and pause ability (to bypass commercials);
o Unlimited free access to several large on-demand premium libraries comprising over 12,000 movies, some in surround sound, as well as most US TV shows (e.g., HBO, Cinemax, Sundance, STARZ, Netflix, Hulu Plus);
o Free grocery pickup service (delivery within 24-hours);
o Seeds and space for gardening;
o Free use of a laptop,
o VGA, HDMI, or DVI cables to use your HDTV as a 2nd monitor,
o A GPS;
o In-room dual miniµ-usb chargers (no need to pack a dozen chargers for your gear but we have the outlets in case you do)
o Access to current DC tour books and pocket maps;
o Access to a well-equipped kitchen;
o Unlimited, free laundry service (so you do not have to bother packing so many clothes);
o Initial free replacements or lending of what they enjoy taking in the airports ( 3oz. of shampoo, toothpaste, tools, etc.);
o Free business services including secretarial services, envelopes and printing. (Scanning, faxing, color copying, and shipping back what you accidentally left is extra, but we do it inexpensively);
o Coupons & discount cards for the local stores we recommend;
o Unlimited filtered water (two types), tea, and coffee;
o Several non-Hollywood entertainment options. (Contrary to popular belief these do actually still exist! The most popular game we play is a 3-6 player card game, but we also play board games, poker, an Xbox 360 with over 300 games, and soccer.)
The space is $975/month + utilities.
Guests also have access to two gyms: one on-site and one off. The latter has an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, cardio equipment, group exercise, free weights, a punching bag, reaction cycling, Pilate's, yoga, juice bar, and daycare.

We've enjoyed traveling around the world, but no trip was perfect. Some so-so vacation events included getting lost (how on earth does the shop clerk that we tried to get directions from not know where he works?) and typing on a tilted laptop to get wifi! We figured we could offer something better. Plus we really enjoy meeting new people. So we rent out our rooms. Most guests like it so much they stay longer (i.e., months) than they book for, which is fine so long as there isn't a reservation conflict. We make it fun.
Flexibility on stay dates, ability to meet locals, safety, shopping, the red line metro, and no leases or security deposits.
Our listing is unusual in (1) it was the least expensive option on vrbo we saw and (2) we actually live two floors below what we rent. This allows us to rent rooms on an individual basis as well as offer very fast response times for things like maid, shuttle, and setup (laptops, bikes, etc.) services.
