This was the perfect escape. The cabin is lovely and in such a perfect setting. it had everything we needed for the weekend. We loved sitting by the fire and listening to the falls. I'll admit being nervous about being without computer and cell but it turned out to be amazing. It was the first time in a long time my husband and I got to really relax and enjoy each other without interruptions We will definitely be back!
We love this area and all of the outdoor offerings around Ohiopyle PA.
This was our first time stay at the cabin and so we took a little bit of time to adjust to the rustic way of life. That being said, we enjoyed the sound of the running stream and the feeling of nature all around us, which is very present under the tall trees of the forest. We appreciated the newish bathroom and the big living room, the games for the kids and the fire pit.
However, we felt that the furnishings could have been more comfortable. The kids shared the bunk beds (futon mattresses) and they found these to be very hard. My husband and I shared the small double bed for the first night, but we found the mattress did not suit my husband's back. The 'master bedroom' was too tiny for two regular sized people. The kitchen was small and the appliances were old, so it was not easy to prepare dinner, the outdoor grill was also old and rusted, but we managed to put meals together between the two. (An outdoor grill that is standing height could fix this?) There were many frying pans to choose from... so this is no longer a problem. We took another reviewers advice and brought our own paper towel and sharp knife which was a huge help. I would recommend bringing nice bedding and more towels if you are making a list.
Sadly, I feel that this place was too rustic for us. However I imagine that for some it might be a perfect rustic hideaway. We would just like to see more value in the furnishings and the grounds for the money, given the price and the expectation of the area it could be wonderful.
Lynne thank you for sharing this place with us. We were looking for a weekend get away. This place was perfect. So relaxing loved the water fall behind the cabin. we spent most of our time there outside with the campfire. Inside had every thing we needed. next time we will bring more food and drinks as there is no where near to buy those things. I would and plan on staying again.
We came to stay with our two 15 year old boys, who decided to go to Ohiopyle instead of Kings Island, so we had a lot of expectation with this trip. This cabin lived up to all of them! We were nervous when we arrived late in the evening with no electricity due to a storm....which quickly returned after about an hour after of our arrival. Saturday evening the boys even swam in the water behind the cabin and skipped rocks while my husband and I sat by the fire pit. My only complaint would be to put a shovel by the fire pit to shovel the ash out, but other than that we LOVED it! We loved finding the covered bridge, but couldn't find the waterfall, maybe next time.
This little cottage has a lot of potential in a beautiful location. The stream behind the house is beautiful as well as the general area (Forbes State Forest). The bathroom and main bedroom seemed pretty clean. Some of the furnishings in the living room could have used some frreshening up. The kitchen likewise needs some updating/cleaning. With those updates, this would be a true gem. Please note that this is a good 20-25 minutes from Ohiopyle State Park. Mill Shoppes Pizza in nearby Rockwood (about 15 minutes away) is very good if you don't feel like cooking.
This cabin was the perfect little place for our family. We have 2 kiddos ages 6 and 4. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The state forest area was wonderful. We fished in the creek behind the cabin as well as Blue Hole, which was a neat little hole in one of the creeks. My husband was so excited to catch native brook trout. That particular state forest area is named for that hole. We did some hiking and exploring as well. The cabin itself was very clean and comfortable.
