Location: Greece

Nearest Airport: Rhodes at 60 Kilometres
Nearest Beach: beach at 250 Metres
Car: not necessary
Tilos is located in the southern Dodecanese islands some 50 kilometers north west of Rhodes. Rhodes is the nearest airport however it is possible to fly to Kos instead. In either case it is necessary to transfer by ferry. An alternative is to island hop using the various ferries from Piraeus, Astipalia, Kalymnos, Kos, Nisyros to Tilos. Tilos has been declared a nature reserve and as such there is no hunting allowed of any sort. The result of this is a wide diversity of natural wild life both flora and fauna. Many migrating species of bird rest in Tilos on their various journeys. The weather in this region is fairly predictable with a long period of sunny weather mostly from May to the end of October. This island seems to have its own unique micro climate in that while the more northerly parts of Greece may be cooler and receiving their first rains, Tilos can be warm and sunny with sea temperatures still comfortable to swim in until November.

Further details for this vacation house rental in Tilos, Greece

Winter Period: Tilos is a small island with a permanent population of only a couple of hundred people. Although this swells to a much larger number in the Summer to cater for tourists and holidaymakers, the Winter period can be very quiet indeed. Livadia village has its own charm in that everyone is concentrated in a small and friendly community. However most restaurants will be closed and all but the most basic facilities too! The bars, some supermarkets, the butcher, post office and bank remain open.

Other Activities: Bird spotting, guided walks, hill walking.

A charming studio apartment with a magnificent view and generous and unobtrusive owners.

We enjoyed a very comfortable week. The apartment is centrally located and has a large terrace which looks out over Livadia Bay. The apartment is quiet and contains everything you would need for a restful holiday.

The apartment of Dennis and Carol at Livadia in the island of Tilos is really how you see in the picture, yet there we were better than expected.
The room is very spacious and tastefully furnished, the kitchen equipped with everything necessary, as is the bathroom, but what we appreciate most is the large terrace and its magnificent view over the bay.
The location is convenient, just above the main plaza, convenient to shops and restaurants, not far from the port and bus station, but at the same time very quiet and secluded. Dennis and Carol live in the apartment below in this white house, surrounded by vases of flowers and plants, always available to provide valuable information or just to chat with you. Dennis and Carol are very hospitable and friendly, they came to welcome us to the port when we arrived and waited with us until our boarding the ship the night of departure. If you enjoy the unspoiled nature, walks, the beaches just for you, and good music, folk, rock, blues (Dennis and Carol know how to play and sing divinely), this is just the place for you. We spent a wonderful holiday, we hope to return again and recommend it warmly to all those who want to spend some of their time away from the pace of the city, but also from too crowded and stressful holiday resorts, factories of entertainment at all costs. We hope to see Tilos again soon! Patrizia and Massimo

Fantastic

I feel fantastic sums the whole holiday up. To start with a great big thank you to Carol and Dennis for their excellent hospitality, they helped make my first taste of Greece outstanding.

The apartment is in an ideal setting close to the square with a breathtaking view of the bay from the balcony. It has all the equipment needed to make a successful holiday, including the beach towels... saving on the weight of my suitcase.

Tilos itself is a remarkable island, after a short journey through Rhodes (my first experience of Greece) I was so pleased to arrive in Tilos - quiet, not commercial and very traditionally Greek, my type of holiday. The island itself has enough to offer but with the heat I enjoyed spending my time on the beach. As others have said everybody is so friendly and make you welcome on their island. I definitely will be back.

So as I started by saying the whole experience- the apartment, Tilos and not forgetting the Carol and Dennis - were fantastic.

We had a wonderful holiday with Carol and Dennis at their lovely property in Livadia . The facilities were excellent , and waking up to the beautiful view of the sea was magical. We were able to eat on the balcony every day and bathe in the warm sunshine at the same time. Watching the sunset and sunrise (the latter from the very comfortable large bed!!) was also superb. All the local bars and restaurants were excellent with a good range of fish meat and vegetarian food. Every one was so friendly we felt as if we' d lived on the island for years!! Carol and Dennis were very attentive and looked after us amazingly. We will be going back !!

Our first visit to a Greek paradise

Review Submitted: February 28, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
The property details say it all! This is an extremely clean, practical and comfortable studio and the owners, Carol and Dennis, couldn't be more helpful and friendly. We had such a great time we have booked to stay there again this year.
The spectacular views from the balcony where we ate our breakfasts each morning were really uplifting - the stunning colours of the unbelievably clear sea was framed by pink bourgonvillea.
The island is really quite small but there are plenty of beautiful walks of varying difficulty in the "mountains" or to other, almost deserted beaches, or you can just laze about on the peaceful beach which is a few minutes stroll away.
There are also fascinating cultural discoveries to be explored, especially the monastery, Magalo Horaio (this is the Capital but is more like a sleepy village), Mikro Horaio, the deserted village and the numerous beautiful tiny churches, some of which have been painstakingly restored inside. We were amazed to discover that the island once had pigmy elephants!
At the end of the day we just loved sitting in the nearby square with a drink and then eating in one of the good selection of restaurants.
We would highly recommend this place for your holiday.
