HOUSE WITH GARAGE AT THE FOOT OF THE WALLED CITY OF CARCASSONNE

Carcassonne City House Rental Photos and Description

Superb view over the medieval town, shaded inner courtyard, 2 double bedrooms

At the foot of the Chateau, with an unimpeded view of the Cité, you can revisit the spirit of the Middle Ages in a completely renovated house with all modern conveniences. A completely fitted kitchen adjoins the living room which has a sofa bed sleeping 3 and leads onto the courtyard. On the first floor are two bright and airy bedrooms and a bathroom: the blue bedroom with a double bed leads out to a balcony with a view over the 'Ile de la Cité': the green bedroom has two single beds with a view over the Cité.

You can reach the centre of Carcassonne and the walled Cité on foot. A variety of shops nearby.

To get to Carcassonne: You can fly to Carcassonne by Ryanair from London, Shannon, Liverpool, Nottingham, Dublin, Cork and Charleroi (34 miles from Brussels). There is a shuttle service which takes you to Carcassonne town centre.

Getting around in Carcassonne: The shuttle service which passes the house will take you to Carcassonne town centre.

The TOUC service (from May to October) offers you free use of small electric vehicles allowing you to travel freely around the town centre.

The Medieval Cité is a cosmopolitan area where a large variety of shops are open at all hours.

It is also a place to meetings, to exchange opinions, and to escape from the humdrum.

Carcassonne town centre, called the Bastide of Saint Louis, is linked to the Medieval Cité by the old bridge which spans the river Aude. The town centre is 15 minutes away on foot. The 'Ile de la Cité' which lies between the two sites, is an ideal place for jogging or for simply strolling along the river banks while admiring the surrounding scenery (The fortress of Carcassonne).

The Medieval City-Activities: The city of Carcassonne, built on the right bank of the river Aude, is Europe's biggest fortress. It consists of a fortified central area, the Chateau Comtal, (can be seen from the house), and double surrounding ramparts: the outer ramparts, which have 14 towers, are separated from the inner (24 towers) by fortified walls.

Other must sees are the Porte Narbonnaise, the Basilique Saint Nazare, the Chateau Comtal and numerous museums.

City attractions:

The 'petit train'.

The Festival of the Cité (Dance, Theatre, classical music concerts, jazz and other styles.

The festival of the Bastide (town centre) from 5 to 30 of July.

Illumination of the Cité (Fireworks show) on 14 July.

Cité jousting tournament from the 7 to 29 August.

Spanish week (street theatre and entertainments) from 21 to 24 August.

Carcassonne fair (feria) from 22 to 24 August..

Water jousting in September in the harbour of the Canal du Midi.

LOVELY HOLIDAY, LOVELY HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
We have rented a few properties around the Limoux area before, but never in Carcassonne. As we spend most of our time travelling to Le Lac de Cavayere and the coast - Leucate area, Carcassonne made sense as a base.
As it happened the house exceeded our expectations. Everything was catered for, and the house was beautiful - both in facilities and decor. We had some lovely evening walks up into La Cite - although bring your walking shoes as the cobbles are hard on the feet. My son & daughter (12 & 7 respectively) have a lovely time, and their room was great.
I would like to thank Catherine & Luc for such a lovely holiday, for letting us use their property, and for making us feel so welcome from arrival to leaving. We hope to visit again sometime soon.

STYLISH, COMFORTABLE HOUSE WITH WONDERFUL VIEWS.

  • 5 of 5
The description doesn't really do the property justice. It is a lovely house, tastefully decorated and well equipped. The courtyard is larger than the photos suggest and is a very pleasant place to eat or just chill. The balcony of the bedroom at the rear of the house is also a bonus. We were lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the Aude tumbling over the weir a few hundred yards away.

The owner, Jean Luc, was waiting for us when we arrived and couldn't have been more helpful, showing us around the house and telling us of the many things we could do and see on our holiday. The thoughtful gifts of wine and groceries were very welcome and much appreciated..

I would recommend this property to anyone, with the proviso that, if you go during Festival time, it can get a little noisy in the evenings.

Carcassone is a lovely city to explore. Lots of places to eat, with Le Trivalou Restaurant on rue Trivalle (very close by) one of our favourites.

Finally, our security deposit was returned to us on the day of our departure.

CHILLED STAY IN WELL EQUIPPED HOUSE

Good location, nicely decorated and well equipped house. Highlights included walking about in old city, getting bus to lac de cavayerre and taking the train to dinosaur museum at Esperaza.

THE BEST!

  • 5 of 5
This must be the best location for staying in Carcassonne. The owners - Catherine
and Jean Luc maintain a lovely and clean residence and the views are to die for. The attached garage is invaluable for car drivers, but the location is such that being without a vehicle is no hardship. The extra touch of wine and groceries were appreciated and consumed with our thanks, and the weather was great

BETTER THAN WE EXPECTED!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great stay in this lovely, quirky house. On arrival we were welcomed by Jean Luc who showed us around and gave few good tips about the area. Also we were touched by groceries and wine waiting for us in the fridge. The property was spotless and the views were even better then expected.
The Medieval city at this time of the year is packed with people, so it's better avoided if you don't like crowds. It can also get very hot in August.
A really nice place to visit is little medieval village of Lagrasse (30km away). You can go for a swim in the river there, brilliant spot! And local wine is also worth a try!.

DON'T CONSIDER ANY OTHER PROPERTY IN CARCASSONNE!

Don't consider any other property in Carcassonne!
  • 5 of 5
We have just returned from a week spent in this property. The whole experience was wonderful and Jean Luc and Catherine could not have been more accomodating. Jean Luc collected us from the airport and brought us to the house where we were welcomed by Catherine who had kindly supplied some basic groceries! This area just below the medieval cite feels much safer and quieter than the new city across the bridge. There are great restaurants around (Le Trivali being best of all), a little mini supermarket (expensive), tabac and some cafes for lunch. The owners have supplied information on local bus and train routes with guide books to help choosing your trips. The view of the cite is sensational and facilities in the property superb. Only those unable to manage stairs would find this accomodation unappealing.
