Ragged Point Vacation Rental villa: Ragged Point

Firstly let us concur with all the previous reviews, Spring Bay Villa is simply gorgeous from its beautiful design to quiet locale within a short walk of East Point Lighthouse and the picturesque Atlantic coastline. It does not disappoint in any shape or form, from tasteful furnishings; ample modern kitchen, to lovely poolside terrace and garden. It was wonderful to take a dip when the mood struck us, or break out the grill if so inclined, one night we barbequed locally caught lobster which was heavenly.

An early morning walk took us along the clifftops and a passing rain shower bestowed a huge rainbow spanning the bay. We also relished relaxing at beautiful Bottom Bay and Crane Beaches, neither crowded (a plus in our eyes) and both within an easy drive of the villa. Another trip out of Bridgetown had us snorkelling with the sea turtles on Tiami Cruises, mucho fun! Friday evening we landed up at the much touted Oitsins Fishfry where we sampled some of the local catch which was both delicious and reasonably priced.

Also deserving honourable mention would be our hostess Melba who not only met us at the airport and made sure we were comfortably situated upon our arival, but who also supplied a quite well stocked fridge, fresh fruit and welcome bottle of wine, which was a nice touch.
Additionally, Melba it turns out is also an able wedding planner and orchestrated our small wedding into a very special intimate event held poolside at the villa. Not only arranging all details, but also making bouquets and custom baking our wedding cake (is there no end to her talents!) We couldn't have asked for a nicer setting for our wedding or honeymoon, or a kinder more accomodating hostess.

In summary we would highly recommend staying at Spring Bay Villa where not only can one enjoy a luxurious, comfortable abode but also an island getaway without the commercialism of a resort or all-inclusive. Consequently we had fun getting to know some of the locals who were very friendly and look forward to whence we can return again. Obviously Spring Bay Villa will always be a very special place for lucky us!!

The pictures and descriptions of the villa are spot on, if not a little reserved. The villa is very nice, laid out great, and very well appointed. This is a wonderful place to stay if you like to set your own pace on your vacation. The five of us, all in our mid to upper twenties, are somewhat of an adventurous group, so we rented a car and explored the more remote parts of the island, walked to the nearby rum shops to visit with the friendly locals, and partook in the weekly celebration at Oistins Fish Fry. However, we spent our fair share just relaxing at the villa, reading on the deck chairs, barbecuing on the patio, and drinking pina coladas by the pool beneath the stars.

The road the villa is on is a newer development with just a few homes, and gets very little traffic other than the occasional visitor to the lighthouse just a couple hundred yards away. If being surrounded by other tourists is what you love about visiting a different country, by all means, stay at St. Lawrence Gap or the very developed “platinum” west coast. However, if you would prefer to stay miles from any hotel, all inclusive meal plan, or pushy time-share salesperson, then stay at Spring Bay villa. You are surrounded by the “true Barbados,” where the locals do not treat you like a tourist, but like a neighbor.

When you are asked where you are staying, and you say “out by Ragged Point,” you will likely get a smile from the locals. They immediately know that you are not just another tourist, but have come to appreciate the true spirit that the island has to offer. You can create a very genuine experience if you show the local people that you are interested in their culture, you have come, not to disturb, but to appreciate their way of life, and you treat the island as their home (which it is!!!), and not just your playground. You are bound to make friends who call Barbados their home.

Finally, you will have a most gracious host. Melba greeted us at the villa (after the driver she arranged delivered us from the airport), gave us a grand tour, and invited us to contact her for any questions we had regarding the villa, the island, or any arrangements we wished to make. For this we are grateful and we all intend to see her again.

Our stay was short but most enjoyable. Melba is a most gracious hostess we felt well looked after even though we caused a few mishaps. This villa is everything you see on the web and more. Well appointed with great attention to detail. I loved sitting by the pool in the early mornings. The villa was clean everything worked and the kitchen a dream. I recommend this property to all looking for a tranquill get away as it is away from the traditional tourist attractions-nightlife/noise....a big advantage. Yet close enough by car to get there. We all look forward to our next visit which can't be too soon.
