We live in Novi, Michigan and have enjoyed our cottage in Harrisville for many years. We have 2 children and a dog.
Thomas & Jill purchased this house in 2002
We orginally fell in love with this property for its quiet beachfront location with miles of walking beach. The house is in a very wooded area, but the view to the lake is unobstructed. The house is next door to a state park - very private location with only one neighbor.
We enjoy the quietness that comes from having the light house state park right next to our property.
We spend a lot of time at the beach sunbathing and swimming. In the evenings and at night we have fire in the beachside firepit, make s'mores and gaze at the beautiful starlit sky.
We enjoy going to Harrisville for dinners and entertainment and in particular the spectacular 4th of July fireworks.
We enjoy beachwalks and bike rides on the quiet streets.
Catch fresh trout yourself at the trout farm only one mile from the house on the way to town.
Great coastline, fun layout, everything was great. Great in the winter and the summer.
After a loss, my mother and I booked this place months in advance of June and every bit of the wait was worth that and the truly reasonable rate. Each of the girls in our group walked into this place starry eyed, saying that even the wonderful photos hardly did it justice. Nothing less than stunning for any time of year, no doubt. The master suite alone is enough reason to grab this while you can but the kitchen was wonderful for entertaining, beautiful, private setting quiet and left only the sound of incoming waves, the gazebo was a high point and great frontage. The walk to Sturgeon Point was very snappy and we took home amazing pictures of our own. Wonderful rock collecting adventure and such an easy jaunt to quaint Harrisville, I made my teen make the run a couple of times.
We can't wait to book again with these wonderful people and we found the caretakers left us to ourselves, yet made themselves available in the event anything might be needed, a phone call away. Perfection all the way with the added personal touch!
We have been going to this Wonderful home for 3 years now. Everything about it is nice. Quiet private beach, Screened in Gazebo if it gets too buggy. Beautiful Lake House with room to do whatever you want. We relaxed on the beach every day and had Fires every night. Everyone can be in the kitchen/great-room while meals are being prepared and shared. The owner and the Caretaker have always been friendly and accommodating.
The house is immaculate, updated, comfortable, well maintained. The view and scenery are spectacular, and the owners are wonderfully accommodating. We stayed the weekend for a girls getaway and it was perfect, despite the rain. We have decided to do this annually based on the delightful experience we had!!
Not much. All reviews are 100% accurate. Owners and caretakers could not be more accommodating and helpful.
This house is a little off the beaten path - in other words not setting on Rt 23 and not near the train track. It is a very sizable lot for beachfront property and is a beautiful and serene location. There is more than ample parking and plenty of room for outdoor sports activities with the provided equipment. The beach is great (head south a few feet to swim) and it's a very short beach stroll to the still operational lighthouse. Definitely worth the climb when it is open to visitors! The more energetic can walk north along the beach for what seems like forever or hop on one of the many bikes and explore by road. The house was spotless, very well maintained, and incredibly welcoming. Tons of windows give great views of the birds, squirrels, deer and, of course, the lake. The master suite is awesome with a great deck and view of the lake. Could have spent the entire day sitting there. Everything was as described or more and we had no difficulty with anything. The caretakers do a great job and the information provided prior to arrival answered all questions. If you don't want to spend all of your time on the beach there are activities for all in the area. The Great Lakes Shipwreck tour in Alpena is highly recommended. Also in Alpena, make sure to visit the Take 5 Deli for lunch. Excellent food and fun atmosphere. If you are into wine tasting there are five wineries within an hour's drive. The Modern Craft Winery tasting room a few minutes away in Harrisville was a fun afternoon wine tasting and chatting with the wonderful owners. The Lumberman's Monument (45 mins) will give you an aerobic workout up and down the 200 or so steps. If you have any energy left there is always Iargo Springs with its 300 step stairway. The views from the bottom of both are worth it! Since it was October we also visited the farmer's market and found a local orchard for fresh apples and awesome pie. All in all an awesome location to kick back at the beach or as a base for rambling around the area.
