This property exceeded our expectations! We had a great time enjoying the oceanfront property and the wonderful kitchen. In total there were 3 couples and two infants and the space suited us perfectly. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were great. A 20 minute drive into downtown Bellingham.

We booked this house for our stay while we were in Bellingham, which is about twenty minutes away. The house is very clean and has an absolutely beautiful setting. While we didn't get to enjoy the house as we would of liked, it was more than we could of asked for and a very nice place to come home to. The beds were all comfortable. We were treated to a couple of stormy nights and it was spectacular. The owner was most gracious and we would definitely like to stay again during warm weather to take advantage of all the beauty the house has to offer.
This was a nice house however the following were the reasons we would not rate it a 5. We have stayed at many VRBOs and feel we can have a fair evaluation of what you should expect while renting a house or cabin. 1. Communication with the listing owner was a challenge. There was no phone number provided and that should have been our first clue. After multiple emails, the owner called us and we then had his phone number. This was only 2 days before our rental date. 2. Due to number 1 for the very first time in years we felt we needed to purchase the $39 insurance just incase this was a scam, fortunately we got the information in time. 3. The kitchen was lacking pot holders , sufficient cups and glasses, and no coffee pot. Our elderly mother dropped a glass and then has no dustpan to actually deal with the mess... Caused some creativity in our bunch. On a positive note: This house is on a quiet location with exception of nearby construction. This house does have a beautiful view of the islands...absolutely beautiful.

Owner's Response: I do not recall how we finally did make telephone contact but the difficulty making contact was true. I actually sent directions and information about the home three times without the guest being able to receive. That guest and the following guests had the same difficulty, which VRBO was unable to explain. (They did share the same mail server address-hotmail). VRBO will resume sending me a copy of my replies, although I did not receive any notice of failure to deliver in these instances. My hope is that all guests call me if there is a difficulty, and I do provide my cell number. We make coffee using two French presses that are kept in the same cabinet as the cups and glasses, next to the stove. There is a vacuum cleaner in the downstairs closet, although no dust pans. The guest's disappointment is shared by me. One of the benefits of vacation rentals is the sharing of a pleasant experience and a pleasant place. My family cannot use the home enough to justify not sharing, and we do so with friends and with guests. Please do call if any questions or concerns or difficulties arise.
An absolutely beautiful interior with all of the amenities for a great price! 2 main issues detracted from our stay. First, if you are looking to get a San Juan experience (traveling to/from an island or two and engaging in tours of the area) then the location is a challenge since any of the islands beyond Lummi are quite a ways away. Second, we arrived with 4 children that wanted to do nothing more than explore the beach behind the house. Noting the very clear Private Property signs on both sides of the lawn I actively worked with my kids to honor the boundaries. What wasn't then warranted was a neighbor coming out and literally screaming at my 7 year old child as he walked the outskirts of the property line and back onto the lawn. My child returned frightened and unwilling to go back outside unless we accompanied him. This obviously changed the entire tenor of the vacation and essentially spoiled what we hoped would be a relaxing getaway.
My recommendation is to come here with welcome arms if you are an older family and simply want to enjoy the quiet. If you have young children and/or want to explore the islands beyond from where you are sitting, then pay the extra money and find a closer location (hopefully with neighbors that are more accepting of children).

Owner's Response: I think this neighbor, there part-time unpredictably, sees threats coming from everywhere. She has screeched at us twice over the past 4 years and this is a third occasion. Painful experiences and, in our experience, brief explosions. We would be unable to provide a vacation rental without the active support of our other neighbors who are pleased to share a wonderful setting.
The house is a wonderful base for exploring Whatcom County-mountains to beach. If you have a boat there is moorage in the local marina and good access to the San Juan islands, that are otherwise accessible by state ferry from Anacortes.
