We didn't know what to expect when the Glasgow trip landed in our laps, but we loved our time there. The Glasgow City Center is packed with restaurants, coffee shops, museums and lots of shopping and the flat is conveniently located in the middle of it. We found that we could walk everywhere we wanted to go and never rented a car. We event had our 4 and 5 yr olds along for the week. Rail and subway are nearby if you want to get out of the city. Edinburgh and Stirling are easy day trips.
The flat is well appointed for a small family or small group of close friends - and the owners are great as well.
This was our first experience using Home Away and to be honest we were really quite apprehensive. Upon communicated via email with Mike and Emma, the owners of this lovely flat our apprehension eased dramatically. Although we never got the chance to meet them they seemed like wonderful people and most importantly they were quick to respond to questions and answered openly and honestly. Thank you Mike and Emma for easing our mind and giving us the opportunity to enjoy our stay at your beautiful flat in Glasgow.
Now on to the flat itself, wow! It was truly amazing with a wonderful view and as beautiful as the pictures illustrate. The location is fantastic just minutes away from all the action but close enough to walk to. We wouldn't recommend a car as everything is central to the flat. You can hail a cab around the corner, the train stations are blocks away and shops, restaurants and pubs are all within walking distance. After taking the Glasgow tour we managed to get our bearings and walked to various sight seeing locations from the flat. If you are a walker/runner there is a wonderful path on the clyde blocks away near Glasgow green that you can run for miles. All in all our vacation was amazing. If we have to comment on the negatives of the flat, well there is just not much to say. Anything that we noticed was minor and expected due to the amount of renters using the facility. We would definitely stay at this flat again given the opportunity, thanks again Mike and Emma!
I stayed in Mike and Emma's apartment for two months from January 2011 to March 2011 and I have not one bad thing to say about the apartment or the owners.
Everything you could ever need for a long or short stay is available in the apartment, from a fully kitted out kitchen, including all cutlery to ample bedding and towels.
The light and airy view from the double fronted patio style windows up Trongate all the way up Argyll Street and up to Glasgow Central station is amazing.
Having your own private car parking space in an underground secure carpark is a real advantage as parking in Glasgow City can be expensive and often frustrating.
You have all the the local facilities you could ever wish for within a five minute walk, from easy takeaway food to high class bars and restaurants. There are numerous local newsagents and shops right outside for all your daily essentials.
This apartment is an ideal location to explore all Scotland has to offer. There are hundreds of historical sites within a 30 minute drive that are well worth a visit, including the world heritage site at New Lanark. Loch Lomond is less than 25 minutes away by car and if you carry on for a further hour you will come to Glencoe, Fort William and the impressive Ben Nevis which is such an idyillic place to visit.
I would recommend this apartment to all types of traveller, from familes, weekend travellers, businessmen and explores alike.
For the facilities and spacious accomodation on offer I do not think you could get better value for money anywhere in Glasgow City Centre.
We spent a perfectly lovely week in this roomy, well equipped, light and airy flat. It is close to shopping, restaurants and bars. The owners were fantastic and answered our repeated questions promptly and graciously. After one weeks stay several of us have decided to sell all and move to Scotland. There is nothing critical I can say about this flat, its owners or the Scottish people.
Go and enjoy yourself.
As regular visitors to Glasgow we have usually booked hotels, but now we have our 2 year old daughter, we thought we'd take the plunge and book an apartment instead.
What a fantastic find! A call to Michael who reserved our dates, and an email to confirm, booking was complete simplicity.
The apartment was everything we'd hoped, and more! Lots of space and stylish contemporary decor, with a view down Trongate and Argyle Street, you really feel that you are at the centre of things.
There are two good sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds, one with an ensuite that has a shower to die for!
It really worked for us with a small child, lots of space for her to move about and play, and having the open plan kitchen was great for preparing meals whilst keeping one eye on her whereabouts. Just a check on arrival to make sure that any of the ornaments are away from prying fingers!
A great bonus is having Glasgow Green only a few minutes walk away. A great playground and garden for little ones, but it also looked the place for a good walk to clear the head on a Sunday morning after a night in the Merchant City's restaurants and bars!
As we travelled to Glasgow by train, the public transport links worked well. An easy walk from Glasgow Central, you can also pick up the subway to the West End at St Enoch, a 20 minute walk away. We took advantage of the 5 minute walk to High Street railway station, that can take you to Glasgow Queen Street in a couple of minutes. From December 2010, you'll be able to pick up a train from High Street that will take you through to Edinburgh.
All in all, a fantastic place to stay, and we're looking forward to returning in the new year!
When my friend and me rented this apartment, we didn't expect it to be this amazing. We had seen the pictures of course but nowadays you can never be sure what to get. In fact, the apartment was even better than the pictures assumed.
The view from the living room was amazing, the living room itself was exremely spacious & the beds were really comfortable.
All in all I can say that I can recommend this flat to everyone.
